We have to fill out the birth certificate today and haven’t yet chosen our twin girls’ middle names!
First names are [name_f]Claire[/name_f] and [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], nickname [name_u]Josie[/name_u].
Big sister is [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] and brother [name_m]Marcus[/name_m] [name_m]Arun[/name_m]. [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] means light in Latin and [name_m]Arun[/name_m] means dawn in Thai (kids ethnicity). [name_f]Claire[/name_f] means clear, bright, so I would love for [name_u]Josie[/name_u]'s middle name to mean “light” in some way and connect all the siblings together.
If that isn’t possible, then I’d like [name_f]Claire[/name_f] and [name_u]Josie[/name_u]'s middle names to tie to each other. Either as both sea related or flower related.
Finally, it would be great [name_f]Claire[/name_f]'s middle name leant itself to a cute nickname since [name_f]Claire[/name_f] has no nickname and her twin has a cute nickname.
We have lots of requirements to hit!
We are considering:
[name_f]Claire[/name_f] [name_f]MARINA[/name_f] - means of the sea, Latin name, [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m] name, saints name
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]HELENA[/name_f] - (pronounce Hell-a-nuh) means light or sun, Latin name, [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m] name, saints name
[name_f]Claire[/name_f] [name_f]ROSEMARY[/name_f] - the plant but also means dew of the sea in Latin. [name_f]Rose[/name_f] as nickname
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]LILY[/name_f] - pretty flower name
[name_f]Claire[/name_f] [name_f]MARGUERITE[/name_f] - means pearl and is the [name_m]French[/name_m] word for daisy, saints name. [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] could be a nickname.
[name_f]Claire[/name_f] [name_f]MARGARET[/name_f] - English version of above. Could use [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] as nickname. I like [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] and [name_u]Josie[/name_u]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]LILY[/name_f] - connects as a flower name?
[name_f]Claire[/name_f] [name_f]MARINA[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]MERIEL[/name_f]- means bright shining sea
[name_f]Claire[/name_f] [name_f]MARIE[/name_f] - like the sound of the two names together and may call her by both names
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] ?? need something to tie to [name_f]Marie[/name_f] in style
Hear me out: [name_f]Luna[/name_f] is ‘moon,’ and the moon and the ocean are forever intertwined through the tide. [name_f]Mar[/name_f]ée (pronounced mah-ree, like [name_f]Marie[/name_f] but with an ocean reference and without [name_f]Marie[/name_f]'s meaning of ‘bitter’) is the [name_m]French[/name_m] word for ‘tide.’ Sooo, we get both the french influences from [name_f]Claire[/name_f] and [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], the latin influences of [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] and [name_f]Luna[/name_f], plus the ocean tie-in for ALL your daughters (pearls are found in the ocean!), plus the light of the moon as a shining reference for [name_f]Josie[/name_f]. So you have your Claire Maree and your Josie!
I love [name_f]Claire[/name_f] [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] plus [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] - [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] goes well with [name_f]Claire[/name_f] [name_f]IMO[/name_f], both being [name_m]French[/name_m] (as does [name_f]Claire[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f]).
Bassily thanks for your very thoughtful response! I really like what you’ve put together there. We did choose [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] in part for its reference to the sea. I like pulling in the connection between the moon and the sea and tides. I had thought of [name_f]Selene[/name_f]/[name_f]Selena[/name_f] which is the Greek goddess of the moon. But it seemed too much of a mouthful with [name_f]Josephine[/name_f].
Only hesitation is that [name_f]Luna[/name_f] is a little hippy-dippy sounding??
I didn’t know about [name_f]Maree[/name_f] meaning tide in [name_m]French[/name_m]. Very nice!
As the one that suggested it, I obviously don’t feel like [name_f]Luna[/name_f] is hippy-dippy haha. I love it to pieces, I think it’s very fitting, esp as a middle, and esp with [name_f]Lucia[/name_f]. [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_u]Legend[/name_u] and [name_f]Chrissy[/name_f] [name_u]Teagan[/name_u] named their baby [name_f]Luna[/name_f], so did [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_u]Cruz[/name_u], [name_f]Ellen[/name_f] [name_m]Pompeo[/name_m], etc. So it’s usable in a variety of cultures/backgrounds. BUT, there are other names that mean moon you may like, although none go so well with [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] or your other children’s names as [name_f]Luna[/name_f] imho:
[name_f]Lune[/name_f], reminiscent of the [name_u]Clair[/name_u] de [name_f]Lune[/name_f]
[name_f]Ayla[/name_f]
[name_f]Aylin[/name_f]
[name_f]Livana[/name_f]
Lutana
[name_f]Neoma[/name_f]
Another idea could be using [name_f]Stella[/name_f], which means star! While not as tied into the tide or ocean, it still insinuates light. Other names that mean ‘star’:
[name_f]Claire[/name_f] [name_f]Marina[/name_f] and…
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Nora[/name_f] - Means light
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Helena[/name_f] and…
[name_f]Claire[/name_f] [name_f]Maya[/name_f] - Means Water
[name_f]Claire[/name_f] [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] and …
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_u]Ren[/name_u] - Means Water [name_f]Lily[/name_f]/[name_f]Lotus[/name_f]
[name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the idea of [name_f]Claire[/name_f] [name_f]Marina[/name_f] and [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Helena[/name_f].
You’ve gotten some lovely suggestions. If it makes any difference, I don’t think [name_f]Luna[/name_f] is hippie-sounding these days at all—it’s getting so popular, I’d consider it more “modern, bold, and not-quite-mainstream” in feel.
I was going to make a suggestion but I absolutely [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] @bassilly’s reply. Those are gorgeous names and the explanation and connection makes them flawless.
