I was thinking of modifying the name [name_f]Rafaella[/name_f]. Traditionally the name is pronounced Raf-eye-ella. I am contemplating changing that into Rafealla (Raf-E-ella). Would this be too confusing? Too many questions and constantly having to clarify, even with changing the spelling? I’m not sure.
I think it’d get misspelled and mispronounced a lot. What about [name_f]Raziella[/name_f] or [name_f]Luella[/name_f]?
No, please don’t. It looks like “[name_m]Ra[/name_m]-[name_m]FEEL[/name_m]-la” to me, and is an abomination to the beautiful name of [name_f]Rafaella[/name_f].
[name_m]Just[/name_m] keep it as [name_m]Raphael[/name_m].
[name_f]Raziella[/name_f] is unique and actually pretty close, but I prefer Rafealla. I don’t know if I will use it, still contemplating. I wouldn’t want a name that is a headache for her so I’m trying to choose wisely.
Eh, I don’t know about it being an abomination. Names have variations and different pronunciations. Whether it is your personal taste or not is another thing.
Why not go with Rafiella? It’s a mix of [name_f]Rafaella[/name_f] and [name_f]Raziella[/name_f], but it’s pronounced the way you want and seems much less confusing to me than Rafealla. I think it looks nicer to the eye and will result in fewer mispronunciations.
[name_u]True[/name_u], the spelling would be easier for that pronunciation.
If I saw this on my roster, I would pity the child whose parents spelled her name wrong…and pronounce it Raf-eye-ella.
I think the suggested Rafiella is a good idea, you get the pronunciation and the essence of the name you like with a bit less of a headache. Honestly, my daughter’s name is not horribly rare ([name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]) and people still look at me weird and me to spell it all the time, so you really can’t win. I do think that Rafiella is a more clear looking spelling, though, and would likely be confused less often with [name_f]Rafaela[/name_f].
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] is beautiful. If nothing else, I have learned that making a change to [name_f]Rafaella[/name_f] is very polarizing.
