These are adventurous word names, but I would love to know your thoughts on them!
I’m not sure if I would use either of them, but this is why they appeal to me -
Conifer - A nature name with a [name]Jennifer[/name]-like ending. Familiar sound in an unusual package with the built-in nickname Coni/[name]Connie[/name]
Joyspring - The name of a beautiful jazz standard written by [name]Clifford[/name] [name]Brown[/name] (the title is actually “[name]Joy[/name] [name]Spring[/name]”). It kind of reminds me of a virtue/Puritan name and gives me a happy feeling.
Are these too out there? Are they usable as middle names?
Joyspring sounds like it could be slang for a woman’s reproductive parts when aroused (trying to word that as non offensively as possible) or a soap brand and I imagine someone named Conifer would endure a lot of jokes about being coniferous so I wouldnt consider them very usable.
I agree that anything goes for middle names, but I can’t get behind these as first names. If you wanted to do [name]Joy[/name] as a first and [name]Spring[/name] as a middle, that could probably work. I just think Joyspring and Conifer are too out there…Conifer would be made fun of for sure (nn [name]Pine[/name] Cone?), and I agree with thetxbelle who said that Joyspring sounds like a soap brand.
Echoing ashthedreamer in that Joyspring reminded me of Loveday, which I think is lovely in the middle name slot. If I knew of a soap brand (or anything brand) that sounded similar I’d be cautious, but my feeling is that Joyspring could be pretty special as a middle name.
Conifer sounds more masculine to me, in spite of the similarity to [name]Jennifer[/name].
Conifer is better, and [name]Connie[/name] is certainly ups its accessibility.
Joyspring definitely gives the impression of a certain demographic for me. Equal parts hippie and religious ([name]Joy[/name] always screams [name]Christian[/name] to me, and I don’t know if that’s a personal association thing or a sweeping one).
Agree with courtneymarie that [name]Joy[/name] [name]Spring[/name] Lastname would be better than Joyspring Middle Last.
[name]Love[/name] the feedback, everyone! You have given me much needed caution and perspective, but I still have a crush on the names…especially Joyspring. Crazy, I know! I would use it only as a middle name and use it mostly for the jazz reference (husband is a huge jazz music lover), but I don’t mind the spiritual tones either.
I like [name]Juniper[/name] and [name]Sequoia[/name] and [name]Cedar[/name] but I’m not game for Conifer.
Joyspring sounds like slang for genitalia to me, possibly a reference to erections. I would at the very, very least, turn it back into two words, [name]Jane[/name] [name]Joy[/name] [name]Spring[/name] or whatever, but probably I would translate at least one of the names into another language a la [name]Jane[/name] [name]Joy[/name] [name]Aviva[/name] or [name]Jane[/name] [name]Jolie[/name] [name]Spring[/name] or something.
