All of the moms to be and new moms, if they have a girl, want two names hyphenated for their first name. Like, [name_f]Carol[/name_f]-[name_f]Marie[/name_f], [name_f]Crystal[/name_f]-[name_f]Ann[/name_f], ect. What’s your opinions on that?
There’s another thread trending on hyphenated names. Personally I think the hyphen is a utilitarian bit of punctuation that becomes ugly and downmarket when appended to names. I do like double barreled names, however – [name_f]Faye[/name_f] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u] are current favorites.
It makes me think the parents were a little bit ‘country hick’, it’s not very common where I am from. I’ve seen kids get into fights over this, oddly enough. [name_f]One[/name_f] girl will tell everyone her name is ‘[name_f]Alyssa[/name_f]-[name_f]Jane[/name_f]’ and other kids will call her just ‘[name_f]Alyssa[/name_f]’. She cries and gets upset, or puts on the pompous foot stomping attitude.
[name_m]Just[/name_m] not worth the trouble.
I’m not a fan of it either. My preference is simply to use middle names that flow well. I think that double barrel nicknames can be fun ([name_f]Gracie[/name_f] [name_u]Jo[/name_u], etc), but mostly on little ones.
