We like the name [name_m]Tybalt[/name_m] but we have an issue with “balt”. We want to pronounce it Tee-BAH-lt (like in the word “bat” with a L) and not Tibb-uh-lt or Tee-bow-lt.
If you don’t really understand what I mean, you can listen to the fifth pronunciation on this website:
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think our son could get tired of correcting the pronunciation? Should we still consider this name or should we find another one?
I think people would just say as they hear it, but I don’t really know.
If someone’s familiar with the name, they’re gonna say Tibbalt. If they’re not, they’re almost definitely gonna say Tie-bolt.
[name_m]Long[/name_m] story short: please don’t do that to your kid. If you like the “Tee” beginning, maybe go for something like [name_u]Tegan[/name_u]?
I like [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m] names. This one I’ve always heard pronounced as Tibbalt and I think you would have a hard time getting people to say it the way you want.
This name is lovely but I guess your son will probably go with [name_m]Ty[/name_m], tired of correcting people. I know boy named [name_f]Thyrza[/name_f] and he suffers from the same fate.
Actually I don’t have any problem with Tee or [name_m]Ty[/name_m], I know this can be corrected easily It’s actually the “balt”. I don’t want people to pronounce it like… [name_m]Archibald[/name_m] or Tee-bow-lt. I want it to be pronounced like the word [name_m]BAT[/name_m], with a L between the A and the T.
If it can help you to understand what I mean, you can listen the fifth pronunciation on this website:
I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to be pronounced Tih-balt/Tih-bult. Only 2 syllables, not three. At least that’s what I learned in the college [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m] Class I took (I have an English minor).
Prouncing it “tee” or “tie” is the “American” thing to do, it’s wrong. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t give your child a name you intend to say wrong. If you plan on using it, pronounce it correctly.
Moondreams, I’m not american (my partner is). Whatever we choose I will pronounce it differently (I’m sorry to not have an English accent and then can not be able to say Tee-bow-lt). My pronunciation is not wrong, my pronunciation is just [name_m]French[/name_m]/[name_m]German[/name_m] and [name_m]Tybalt[/name_m] comes from [name_m]Theobald[/name_m], a [name_m]German[/name_m] name
