Tyson?

Thoughts, opinions and ideas on [name_u]Tyson[/name_u]? What race/ ethnicity would you assume he was if any? What kind of vibe does it give you? What kind of imagery does it give you? As for [name_u]Tyson[/name_u] Chicken and [name_m]Mike[/name_m] [name_u]Tyson[/name_u]- I actually like the nugget association and think Nugget would be a cute pet name/ inside joke, and I’m not too worried about [name_m]Mike[/name_m] [name_u]Tyson[/name_u], (but should I be?) just means I cant use [name_u]Michael[/name_u] in the middle to honor my dad lol. Any and all feedback welcome, and so are suggestions if you have any.

[name_f]TIA[/name_f]!!!

I love the nickname [name_m]Ty[/name_m], though [name_u]Tyson[/name_u] as a full name feels a bit 2000’s to me for some reason.
But it could 100% still work with all the other trendy -son names right now! Especially if he went by [name_m]Ty[/name_m], which feels quite fresh to me because of [name_u]Kai[/name_u].
There’s a [name_u]Percy[/name_u] [name_m]Jackson[/name_m] character with the name, and that’s pretty much my only association. I don’t think of any specific race or nationality when I hear it.

I hate to say it, but for me, this name is still inextricable from [name_m]Mike[/name_m] [name_u]Tyson[/name_u]. I would have concerns about using it for that reason, due to the rape conviction and the whole ear-biting thing. If I had to pick a race/ethnicity most closely associated with this name, it would be [name_m]Black[/name_m], again because of [name_m]Mike[/name_m] [name_u]Tyson[/name_u].

I hate to give negative feedback on your favorite choice, so I tried to find some alternatives - maybe [name_m]Brycen[/name_m], Bison, [name_m]Dyson[/name_m], [name_m]Dawson[/name_m], [name_m]Lawson[/name_m], Macsen, [name_m]Tyrone[/name_m], [name_m]Tyreese[/name_m], [name_u]Tobin[/name_u], or Tiber?

@lavenderwitch thank you so much for your feedback! I would much rather know now than use it and end up regretting it. I have gotten very rude and racist comments about [name_u]Tyson[/name_u] from people [name_m]IRL[/name_m] (“its not like you are gonna have [name_m]BLACK[/name_m] kids lolol why would you give your poor baby a GHETTO name?!”) and wanted to get some added perspective. Thank you for your suggestions! I do have [name_u]Bryce[/name_u] on my list, I like [name_m]Dyson[/name_m] a lot but worry about the vaccum cleaner connection, and as much as I like [name_m]Ty[/name_m] names, I think the only one i could get away with is [name_u]Tyler[/name_u] lol. Kind of a bummer cause it’s such a neat sound and I think the meaning of “firebrand” is pretty cool.

@emmievis I actually first found the name from that character! He is one of my favorites. I do tend to like kind of “would have been trendy in the early 2000s” names lol

I don’t mind it. Reminds me of the [name_u]Percy[/name_u] [name_m]Jackson[/name_m] character too. I would assume [name_u]Tyson[/name_u] was either white or black (or mixed from those races). [name_m]Mike[/name_m] [name_u]Tyson[/name_u] isn’t too strong of an association for me. It’s there, but doesn’t make the name unusable.

My first association is the character from PJO too! I also knew a couple boys named [name_u]Tyson[/name_u] growing up. The [name_m]Mike[/name_m] [name_u]Tyson[/name_u] and chicken nugget associations would never have occurred to me, tbh. I like [name_u]Tyson[/name_u] more than [name_u]Tyler[/name_u], which I heard a lot in school.

I wouldn’t assume a [name_u]Tyson[/name_u] was a certain race/ethnicity. The only Tysons I’ve known were white but that says more about the area I grew up in than it does about the name itself.

I know maybe 3 Tysons. 1 is approx. 40, 1 is around 11 I think and the other is 7. They are all caucasian/white. I definitely don’t think of [name_m]Mike[/name_m] [name_u]Tyson[/name_u] right away.

I think of the boxer [name_u]Tyson[/name_u] Fury and also [name_m]Mike[/name_m] [name_u]Tyson[/name_u], so for me [name_u]Tyson[/name_u] has a strong connection to boxing. I don’t think this name is associated with any particular race or ethnicity where I live (UK). It does strike me as being a working class name (and I do not mean that in a negative way).

I love the name [name_u]Tyson[/name_u]! It’s so cute, and I definitely don’t think of [name_m]Mike[/name_m] [name_u]Tyson[/name_u] right away.

That’s exciting to me that the PJO character is a stronger association than I thought. Thank you so much for the different perspectives so far! I wonder if the [name_m]Mike[/name_m] [name_u]Tyson[/name_u] association is maybe dying down a bit now that he is less relevant, especially to people my generation and younger.

I am wondering if the racial aspect is a regional thing (I’m in the us)? Or maybe it’s just the person I heard these comments from getting in my head?

I’m in the US as well and I think the race association is a regional thing – I’m not sure where you are but I’m in the PNW and I don’t think people here would necessarily think of it as tied to a certain race. I think [name_u]Tyson[/name_u] is very cute and masculine, and with younger people more will think about [name_u]Percy[/name_u] [name_m]Jackson[/name_m] or nothing than [name_m]Mike[/name_m] [name_u]Tyson[/name_u] anyway. I hadn’t even considered the [name_m]Mike[/name_m] [name_u]Tyson[/name_u] association.

I think of [name_m]Mike[/name_m] [name_u]Tyson[/name_u].
