Names that make you go ‘blah’, until you imagine it on a little girl? Names that you think are too harsh/frilly/dull/lispy/etc sounding, but that you still have a secret soft spot for? Names that for whatever reason you think are just too darn ugly, but you can’t help coming back to them?

lol, I’ve never really understood the “it’s so ugly it’s cute” whole idea. If it’s ugly, I don’t think it’s cute, lol.
That being said, I love some names I think a lot of people (especially outside of Nameberry!) would think are ugly. Like:

[name]Meryl[/name] (I think I would swoon if I met a trio of sisters named [name]Agnes[/name], [name]Edith[/name], and [name]Meryl[/name]! Especially with the French pronunciation of [name]Agnes[/name] and [name]Edith[/name], I think they’re fab)
[name]Olga[/name] (YES! I thought I was the only one who saw the appeal in this! I used to think it was hideous, but then I met a great [name]Olga[/name], this beautiful Russian American mom who adored her little girl, and I was like, “YES! That’s why there are so many Russian Olgas!”)
[name]Mathilda[/name] is this name for me. It doesn’t really appeal to me on its own - it seems so old-fashioned and clunky - but I know that I’d adore it on a little girl.
I just recently met a little freckled face girl named [name]Murphy[/name]- I would never imagine naming my daughter [name]Murphy[/name] but on her it was so cute! Ruth nickname Ruthie, Dorothy, and Patsy are some of my guilty pleasures that I know are ugly but think would be adorable on little girls.
[name]Hilda[/name]. [name]Hilda[/name] is ugly to me, but then one day I imagined a little preschooler named [name]Hilda[/name] and just… <3 ! Now it is cute to me!
I’m pretty sure I felt that way (ugly, blah) about [name]Blythe[/name], [name]Maeve[/name] and [name]Gladys[/name] until I really re-evaluated them. Now I love them.

Of course, my SO thinks every name I like is an ugly, old lady name, so I could probably post my entire list. So excited to see someone else liking [name]Hester[/name]. I love Hesper, [name]Hester[/name], and [name]Esther[/name], especially for the meaning.
Ooh, I forgot about [name]Maude[/name]. I don’t think I could ever name a child this (although a serious faced little [name]Maude[/name] would be the cutest), but if I ever get a cat that’ll be what I name it!
I love [name]Maude[/name], I think it’s beautiful, but my husband won’t entertain the idea
I also love Hesper, but I think given my older two girls have somewhat more recognisable names, it might be a stretch too far when most people have never heard of it!
I really love [name]Myrtle[/name] and don’t think it’s ugly at all.
[name]Gertrude[/name], [name]Beatrice[/name] and [name]Harriet[/name] would be refreshing and cute on a baby.
[name]Adelaide[/name], [name]Clementine[/name], [name]Mabel[/name], [name]Matilda[/name], [name]Olive[/name], and [name]Tabitha[/name] all strike me as a bit ugly-cute, but more on the cute side, in my opinion. I don’t tend to find truly hideous names that cute!
