Uncommon biblical names

Can you ladies think of any names that aren’t popular?

My favorite unpopular biblical name is Othniel. Also Omri and Ozias…I like the O names.

Others:
Zebedee
Rosh
Phanuel
Peleth
Merari
Jorim
Jashen
Jasiel
Hazo
Eliel
Baruch
Perez
Arnan

Here are a few I like, but I don’t consider them unusual:

[name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m]
[name_m]Levi[/name_m]
[name_m]Ezra[/name_m]
[name_m]Adam[/name_m]
[name_m]David[/name_m]
[name_m]Joseph[/name_m]
[name_u]Micah[/name_u]
[name_m]Isaac[/name_m]
[name_m]Moses[/name_m]

[name_m]Boaz[/name_m] and Joash are my favorite truly uncommon ones. I feel like Joash is rarely (if ever?) considered, and maybe not even known about, but as far as I remember, he was a pretty good king, and so many usable nicknames! [name_m]Joe/name_m, [name_u]Ash[/name_u], [name_m]Josh[/name_m]… what’s not to love? I think it’s fantastic. I also like [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m], [name_m]Asher[/name_m], [name_m]Ezra[/name_m], [name_m]Moses[/name_m], [name_m]Josiah[/name_m], [name_u]Micah[/name_u], [name_u]Noah[/name_u], [name_m]Judah[/name_m], [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m], [name_m]Samuel[/name_m], [name_m]Daniel[/name_m], [name_m]Caleb[/name_m], etc., but they’re not all unusual.

I agree with the suggestion of Joash, very usable.
Also: [name_m]Jairus[/name_m], Jakin (I know someone named this), [name_m]Abel[/name_m], [name_m]Abner[/name_m],[name_m]Amos[/name_m], [name_m]Eleazar[/name_m], [name_m]Hosea[/name_m], [name_m]Japheth[/name_m], [name_m]Jotham[/name_m], [name_m]Mordecai[/name_m].

If you want really unusual:
[name_m]Hezekiah[/name_m]
Mephibosheth
Methusalah
Nebuchadnezzar
Korah
Manasseh
[name_m]Ephraim[/name_m]
[name_m]Naphtali[/name_m]
[name_m]Zebulun[/name_m]
[name_m]Zaccheus[/name_m]
[name_m]Judas[/name_m]
[name_m]Erastus[/name_m]

However, if you’re not wanting quite so unusual I second the suggestions above. I particularly like Joash too. [name_m]Josiah[/name_m] is another possibility, along with [name_m]Hosea[/name_m], [name_m]Moses[/name_m], [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] (I actually know someone named this) [name_m]Naaman[/name_m] (also met someone once with this name)

I like [name_m]Saul[/name_m] its not popular but easy to read.

Simieon
[name_m]Enoch[/name_m]
[name_u]Elias[/name_u]
[name_m]Gideon[/name_m]
[name_m]Lazarus[/name_m]

I’m sad, I had a whole post that got eaten.

Anyway, I love Biblical boys’ names. The starred ones I’ve known in real life. I use that as a guide that they ARE SO usable! The ones on the same line, it’s a spelling/transliteration thing and both are valid and I’ve grouped them together.

[name_m]Isaiah[/name_m]*
[name_m]Kemuel[/name_m]
[name_m]Jethro[/name_m], Yitro*
[name_m]Lemuel[/name_m]

I don’t really like English [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m] but I’m fond of Hebrew form [name_m]Nechemya[/name_m]. Same goes for Manasseh - don’t like it, do like [name_m]Menashe[/name_m] (men-ahhh-shuh).

Check out my nameberry list, it’s quite an extensive list of Biblical boy names which you may find helpful

My favourite obscure biblical name is [name_m]Hezekiah[/name_m], I’m planning on using it one day.

Other favourites are:
[name_m]Abel[/name_m]
[name_m]Absalom[/name_m]
[name_u]Asa[/name_u]
[name_m]Job[/name_m]
[name_m]Enoch[/name_m]
[name_m]Ephraim[/name_m]
[name_u]Elisha[/name_u]
[name_m]Mordecai[/name_m]
[name_m]Malachi[/name_m]
[name_u]Micah[/name_u]
[name_m]Thaddeus[/name_m]
[name_m]Zebedee[/name_m]

[name_m]Eliezer[/name_m], [name_m]Eliezer[/name_m], [name_m]Abner[/name_m], [name_m]Abel[/name_m], [name_m]Amos[/name_m], [name_m]Ozias[/name_m], [name_m]Micaiah[/name_m], [name_m]Emmanuel[/name_m], [name_m]Zebedee[/name_m], [name_m]Zephaniah[/name_m], Zedidiah, [name_u]Zion[/name_u], [name_u]Ariel[/name_u], [name_m]Lemuel[/name_m], [name_m]Jemuel[/name_m], [name_m]Obadiah[/name_m], [name_m]Jedidiah[/name_m], Jebidiah, [name_m]Solomon[/name_m], [name_m]Hosea[/name_m], [name_m]Matthias[/name_m], [name_m]Ephraim[/name_m], [name_m]Adlai[/name_m], [name_m]Jethro[/name_m], Benaiah, Thaddeus, Job

My favorite rarely-used biblical boy lately is [name_m]Adlai[/name_m].

Thanks ladies! These names are exactly what I was looking for : )

[name_m]Adriel[/name_m] . I once met a boy by that name.

[name_m]Ozias[/name_m]. [name_m]Hiram[/name_m]. [name_m]Ephraim[/name_m]. [name_m]Hosea[/name_m]. [name_m]Simeon[/name_m]

My large-print NKJV Bible has a complete concordance of given names. I love perusing them. You should get your hands on a Bible that has one!
I personally adore
[name_m]Jethro[/name_m] nn [name_u]Jet[/name_u]- we may even use this one if we have a third boy! Hubby approved!
[name_m]Jonah[/name_m]- great alternative to [name_u]Noah[/name_u]- although not the best role-model perhaps… I think I prefer [name_m]Jonas[/name_m]
[name_u]Elias[/name_u]- just so handsome. I am totally crushing.
[name_m]Solomon[/name_m] nn [name_m]Sol[/name_m]- why don’t people use this more?! To me it’s a name with real substance, like [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] or [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m].
[name_m]Abraham[/name_m]- met a toddler named this 10 years ago, and have never forgotten. His dad called him “hammer” for a casual nickname. Worked so well for him! If [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m] is “in,” why not go whole-hog with [name_m]Abraham[/name_m]?
[name_m]Joachim[/name_m]- I know a young man (about 30) with this name. He pronounces it [name_m]JOE[/name_m]-shim. Very nice name. Reminds me of [name_m]Joaquin[/name_m] when written out on paper.
[name_m]Ephraim[/name_m]- this spelling
Manasses- perhaps difficult to wear, but awesome none the less.
[name_m]Simeon[/name_m]- also on our boys list
[name_m]Abner[/name_m]-ditto
[name_m]Amos[/name_m]- ditto, although now it’s out (too close to [name_m]Angus[/name_m]… see siggy)

This is a list of every male name in the Bible (at least, it says so- I swear that there are more)- some are place names, but could still work.

[name_m]Joaquin[/name_m] is a form of it. Same as [name_f]Rachel[/name_f] and [name_f]Raquel[/name_f].

([name_m]Joaquin[/name_m] is the form I’d go with if given the choice)

These names I’d probably consider uncommon but not unusual but some of them I love!

[name_m]Jedidiah[/name_m]
[name_m]Obadiah[/name_m]
[name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m]
[name_m]Ezra[/name_m]
Hezzekiah
[name_m]Malachi[/name_m]
[name_m]Mordecai[/name_m]
[name_m]Moses[/name_m]
[name_u]Asa[/name_u]
[name_m]Zebediah[/name_m]
[name_m]Thaddeus[/name_m]

Off the top of my head…

[name_f]Dorcas[/name_f]

Ooops…sorry…didn’t notice that it was “boy” name… :-?
