I just posted about me an my husband looking for a baby name for our baby girl. Preferably slavic/russian. We like [name_f]Olga[/name_f], [name_f]Sonya[/name_f] and [name_f]Natasha[/name_f], but will not be naming our child any of these names unfortunately.
To my last post I got a lot of comments, which were amazing, but we are looking for a name that is really different. If anyone has any suggestions for slavic/russian uncommon (not like [name_f]Sofiya[/name_f], [name_f]Anya[/name_f], etc.) names, I would appreciate it a lot! We are looking for something, that could make people think “wow, I’ve never heard that name before”. We have searched all name pages and none of the names sound rare enough for us.
I’m Slavic, though not Russian. I will suggest my own name, which is Vesna. [name_f]Every[/name_f] Russian I have come across has loved it. It may not be a proper “name” in [name_f]Russia[/name_f] right now, but it’s the ancient name of the Slavic goddess of spring, so I think you can bring it back as a name.
Other than that, Slavic names tend to get recycled a bunch so I’m finding it hard to find names that are beautiful and rare or underused. I also wonder whether you’re looking for a true Slavic name (linguistically speaking) or whether you’re looking for a name that’s in use in [name_f]Russia[/name_f] right now. [name_f]Katarina[/name_f] etc are not Slavic in origin, although they may be quite common there.
My own approach has been to look for pre-[name_m]Christian[/name_m] names from lore and mythology, and also to take some nature words into account.
I also love Snezhana, [name_f]Zora[/name_f], [name_f]Zoya[/name_f], [name_f]Svetlana[/name_f] ([name_f]Lana[/name_f]) and [name_f]Lada[/name_f] and [name_f]Lara[/name_f] and [name_f]Mira[/name_f].
