My husband and I are trying for baby #2 and as a name obsessed person it bothers me that I have [name_m]ZERO[/name_m] boy names that I love.
My criteria makes it hard. I want a name that is strong and uncommon (not in the top 400). But I’m afraid of “trendy” names (ones that spike for a short time before becoming virtually unused) and of my name being ridiculed behind closed doors. I have many guilty pleasure names, but I can’t picture them on a resume. I also like a lot of names but I don’t love any of them and cannot picture them on my future son. sigh
Your style is so varied—I love it! But I’m sure it’s tough to find a name you love as much as your daughter’s. Here are some ideas that I hope fit your criteria, inspired by the names on your list. All are outside the top 400.
So many lovely names you have there! It’s hard to imagine suggesting names you haven’t thought of, as you seem to have covered a lot of ground, but I’ll try!
My first thought was [name_m]Robinson[/name_m]. I absolutely love this name, very uncommon and unexpected but yet a recognizable name. A few more…
[name_f]Nova[/name_f] &
[name_m]Apollo[/name_m]
[name_m]Bodhi[/name_m]
[name_m]Cyrus[/name_m]
[name_m]Draco[/name_m]
[name_m]Fraser[/name_m]
[name_m]Gideon[/name_m]
[name_m]Indio[/name_m]
[name_m]Kane[/name_m]
[name_m]Malachi[/name_m] (too common maybe?)
[name_m]Mordecai[/name_m]
[name_u]Oberon[/name_u]
[name_m]Odin[/name_m]
[name_u]Orion[/name_u]
[name_u]Phoenix[/name_u]
[name_u]Rio[/name_u]
[name_m]Roman[/name_m] (this one also is up in the 100s on the popularity list…)
[name_u]Sage[/name_u]
[name_u]Sinclair[/name_u]
[name_m]Thor[/name_m]
[name_m]Valor[/name_m]
[name_m]Ramsey[/name_m]. It’s not in the top 1000, has never been higher than the 800’s, but is familiar enough to not be made fun of. I think of it as a really good looking and sounding name.
First off, I love your style! There are so many names in your list that I love too; [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m] and [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] are probably in my top 10 atm. My first thought for you was [name_u]Robin[/name_u], but maybe you wouldn’t think of that as masculine if [name_f]Robyn[/name_f]'s your middle name (as your user name suggests). Like suggestion of [name_m]Robinson[/name_m].
Other suggestions below. I’m afraid I don’t know much about general popularity standings outside of the top 50 or so, and consequently some, like [name_m]Declan[/name_m], may be too popular for you.
[name_m]Altair[/name_m] is the name of a star, so would make a cute cosmic theme with [name_f]Nova[/name_f]. I love the sibset [name_f]Nova[/name_f] & [name_m]Quillan[/name_m], and [name_f]Nova[/name_f] & [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] is pretty amazing too.
Hubby and I are in a similar boat, in the end I just had to let go a little on the uniqueness, we were not finding anything in the “uncommon” range we agreed on. I love [name_f]Nova[/name_f] as well. You can try looking at Shakespearean names, as I feel lots of those are known but not common.
There are some great suggestions here! I like [name_m]Ramsey[/name_m], [name_u]Ellis[/name_u], [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m], [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], [name_m]Ezra[/name_m], [name_m]Killian[/name_m], [name_m]Wesley[/name_m], and a few others…but Hm…still haven’t found any I absolutely see on a future baby boy. Ugh…why does this have to be so hard?!
