Not much is off limits. I love obscure, weird, non-name names. I love boys names on girls. I love word and noun and feeling names. I like surnames as firsts. I love most all ‘hippie’ names and also very very upighty-high class sounding names. Sometimes the weirder the better. If it’s never been used before for a child, I’m game lol.
What I do not want is a name I’ve seen or heard, which is most lol. What is left out there for me? And every uncommon name thread I see or read, it’s always the same names being suggested… =(
Here is a random pool of names I ‘like’ just for the idea.
I love [name_m]Ferris[/name_m] for a girl and [name_m]Franco[/name_m] for a boy.
Anyway, I have seen some of your lists and I’d be very surprised if there were any unusual names you didn’t already know too!
The two names I love that aren’t on Nameberry, and may be considered ‘unusual’, are Verlaine for a girl and Charming for a boy (there’s a British artist called Charming [name_m]Baker[/name_m] and I just think it’s the coolest name I’ve ever heard).
[name_m]Hi[/name_m], first of, I just realized I posted like the same thread starter as you, sorry, not intentional. I was just doodling at my desk the other day and thought of the name Wiste, like mist with a W. I also like the name [name_f]Isolde[/name_f], which is kind of unusual. Some you’ve probably heard of but saying them anyway and others:
[name_m]Willi[/name_m]- G (girl)
[name_u]Teal[/name_u]-B (boy)
[name_f]Faye[/name_f]-G
[name_f]Aili[/name_f]-G
[name_u]Cloud[/name_u]-B
Wind-U (unisex)
Wilke-B
[name_f]Saffron[/name_f]-U
Kita-G
[name_f]Perla[/name_f]-G (roll the r if you can)
Eyrun-G (ae-roon, roll the r if you can)
I hope you like some of them. Have a nice evening.
Lol, I guess it is just a good thing that my love for names is pretty revolving. My lists are usually changing, I just feel like I am in a big dry spell. So eventually I’ll start reliking past names again lol.
And funny thing, you did help first off lol. Charming, such a charming name! I actually don’t think I’ve seen or considered i for a name, that is what I am talking about! thanks! Reminded me of the name Darling I just posted the other day, they’re such pretty names!
Oh and FYI as I forgot to mention, the names on my like list are names I wouldn’t even use as to me, they feel too “known” or used as names, Too common for me! LOl!! But they are similar to my style and names I have liked before. So weird/more obscure than those, the better!!
I can think of a few that I’ve only personally heard on one person in my life, so maybe they’re new to you!
[name_f]Vegas[/name_f] is the name of my friends baby boy due in 3 weeks. I know a couple with new twins, a girl named [name_f]Jette[/name_f] and a boy named Riot. I also have someone come into my job, an older woman named Poinsettia.
This is a mixed girl/boy name list because most of these names are so weird they could almost be unisex, plus you said you love boy names on girls:
[name_m]Beauchamp[/name_m]
Rosamel
[name_m]Gable[/name_m]
Montag/[name_m]Montague[/name_m]
[name_m]Vanya[/name_m]/[name_f]Vanja[/name_f]
Cokendolpher
Iglehart
[name_m]Franz[/name_m]
[name_u]Gardner[/name_u]/[name_u]Gardener[/name_u]
Yarbrough
[name_f]Venice[/name_f]
Rosin (raw-zinn, like the sticky stuff violinsts put on their bow)
I ran across a medieval name that no one knows the meaning of or where it came from. It’s so pretty, though. It’s Pheribee / Faraby (think [name_f]Farah[/name_f] + bee). And its use seems to have stopped sometime in the mid-1800s.
Others that you probably heard of are:
[name_f]Zadie[/name_f] (another fave of mine)
[name_m]Killian[/name_m]
[name_m]Arrow[/name_m]
Acanthus
Amiable
Axiom
Catcher
[name_u]Cobalt[/name_u]
[name_f]Muse[/name_f]
[name_u]Halcyon[/name_u]
Hermetta
[name_u]Fable[/name_u]
[name_u]Traveler[/name_u]
[name_u]Saylor[/name_u]
[name_f]Bedelia[/name_f] (who knew it was an actual name and not something the [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Bedelia[/name_f] writer made up?)
I also like the name [name_f]Aroha[/name_f] for a girl (it’s the Maori word for love) and [name_f]Reza[/name_f] (rez-a not ray-za) for a boy (Nameberry says it’s a girls name but I think it’s [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] with a edgy twist).
[name_m]Just[/name_m] yesterday I was thinking about some local ‘celebs’ who gave quite unique names to their children, all word names but in Dutch:
Bloem (flower)
Mensje (diminutive of ‘human’)
Zus (sister)
And a name I heard in a previous workplace of mine:
Voske (diminutive of ‘fox’) - I actually really like this one myself!
Wow so many unexpected replies, thank you all so much lol. Let’s see wow, it’s taken so long to really read through and say each name, figure out if I know it or like it etc. there was ALOT of names most of which I’ve seen, some I have on my list, and even a few that are pretty new to me or I just never considered.
(Also, funny, someone here said my first childs name lol)
So here are the ones I’ve added to my long lists. Nothing I immediately fell in super love with though…
[name_m]Ossian[/name_m], saw this for the first time the other day and like it alot, definitely needed to be added.
[name_m]Friso[/name_m]
Ivalo/ I added Ivalu instead as I like it better but never heard of this one.
I know a gorgeous [name_u]Zivka[/name_u], and I’d never heard that name before I met her. Apparently it’s an “old woman name” in the Balkans. I quite like it.
I also know this family where every man has the name Oseas (oh-see-as) either as first or second name. This family has always lived by the coast, and I absolutely adore the name as it reminds me of ocean. Plus the men in that family are/were super handsome.
