I like rather unconventional names that have a nature/literary/relaxed feel to them. I’m expecting my first child and my husband and I can’t seem to find a name we both adore. It needs to be usable for a child, but still unique… a happy medium. I really prefer to stay away from older names… but I’m remaining pretty open to ideas. Names with nicknames would be a bonus as well.
Unconventional names aren’t my style, but I thought I’d repeat suggestions given to someone who asked about the name [name]Poet[/name] (a name that, in my opinion, will surely be a source of teasing). This site has many wonderful names lists (click on “hot lists” to browse, including literary and nature names.
I have found uncommon that I really like from movies ([name]Imogen[/name] from Down to You/[name]Tenley[/name] from [name]Summer[/name] Catch/[name]Esme[/name] from Twilight- there are a bunch more I cant think of…) and books ([name]Olympia[/name] from [name]Anita[/name] Shreve’s Fortunes Rocks and Araline, Anethe, and [name]Maren[/name] from Weight of Water) but books and movies can be good places to get ideas… and also try looking up supermodel names (and the nameberry supermodel list!)- they usually have beautiful and foreign names…

[name]Do[/name] you know what your are expecting or are you keeping it a surprise?
So far, I’ve noticed no one mentioned the name [name]Butterfly[/name]. I just love that name.
I also like [name]Apple[/name], [name]Bamboo[/name], [name]Cotton[/name], [name]Cloud[/name], and [name]River[/name].
I don’t like common names such as [name]Autumn[/name] or [name]April[/name].
My sister has suggested Canoe for a boy.
katebrooks, I’m assuming you’re asking me since I am adopting this thread from the original poster!!
I don’t know boy or girl.
Also I generally don’t favor well known nouns (or any nouns) for names, although [name]River[/name] is an exception but I find that as common as [name]Autumn[/name] or [name]April[/name].
