We are expecting a baby boy and had been planning on naming him [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] [name_m]Paul[/name_m]. I was saying the name out loud to myself the other day and it occurred to me that this is the name of St. [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] de [name_m]Paul[/name_m]. Now I’m reconsidering. It was not our intention to name our baby after a saint and I’m just wondering if it is too obvious that everyone will just assume that is what we were doing? Is it no big deal or would you change it?
I’m not Catholic or from a predominantly Catholic area, so I would never make the connection.
I’m not Catholic though I am familiar with many saints. I didn’t make the connection until you pointed it out. I don’t think it’s a big deal at all.
Yeah, same as PPs. I would have never noticed.
I think it’s a non issue.
No, totally fine. [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] and [name_m]Paul[/name_m] are both unexpected but very familiar choices. I don’t think the automatic assumption will be that he was named for the saint.
I agree with all previous posters… I had no idea who he was so i did a google of him :
St. [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] de [name_m]Paul[/name_m] (24 [name_f]April[/name_f] 1581 – 27 [name_f]September[/name_f] 1660) was a [name_m]French[/name_m] [name_m]Roman[/name_m] Catholic priest who dedicated himself to serving the poor. He is venerated as a saint in the Catholic Church and the Anglican Communion. He was canonized in 1737.[1] He was renowned for his compassion, humility, and generosity and is known as the “Great Apostle of [name_f]Charity[/name_f]”.
…
I think its a very handsome name !!
So, imo, a beautiful namesake regardless!! Most first and middles will bring up someone on a google search…
I’m with everyone else - not a problem. Great name, go for it!
I didn’t make the connection myself, so I don’t think it’s a problem.
I am Catholic and I did make the connection to the saint, but I wouldn’t automatically assume that you did that on purpose. I think it’s fine.
I also made the [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] de [name_m]Paul[/name_m] connection because it’s the name of a church in my town. Still, I don’t think it’s an issue unless you are going for a double barreled first name.
I know of a church by that name, so I did think of the saint. But, I don’t see it as a problem and think it’s a very nice name.
I’m not religious in any way so I didn’t make the connection. I think [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] [name_m]Paul[/name_m] is very handsome!
