Unique boys name to go with Willow

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone.

Expecting our first child in [name_f]October[/name_f] so a bit terrified but also excited. We are not finding out the sex until D-day so we are needing to come up with a name for a boy and a girl.

We both have unique names and we come from families that have unique names. We want to name our child something unique.

We have our girls name locked in ([name_f]Willow[/name_f] [name_f]Anne[/name_f]) but we can’t find a boys name.

We are currently considering [name_f]Starling[/name_f] [name_m]Cole[/name_m] as our boys name.

Wondering what everyone’s thoughts are ?

I’ve only ever seen [name_f]Starling[/name_f] as a last name, but with the popular use of last names as first names, I think that [name_f]Starling[/name_f] could work as a first name on a boy. It’s a unisex name, though Nameberry doesn’t have it listed that way.

[name_f]Starling[/name_f] is all girl to me. You seem drawn to nature names and maybe some of these would appeal?

[name_u]Cedar[/name_u]
[name_m]Ridge[/name_m]
[name_m]Birch[/name_m]
[name_m]Fox[/name_m]
[name_u]River[/name_u]
[name_m]Shale[/name_m]

[name_f]Starling[/name_f] sounds like a girl. I agree that [name_u]Sterling[/name_u] would be much better. Suggestions:

[name_m]Reef[/name_m]
[name_m]Bodhi[/name_m]

Thanks everyone for your replies. We really don’t like [name_u]Sterling[/name_u] as it sounds too british and pretentious for us. (Sorry if you are called [name_u]Sterling[/name_u]).

Out of curiosity, my name is [name_u]Brook[/name_u]. Am I the father or the mother?

I’d guess father, due to your tone/directness. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_m]Stellan[/name_m]?

[name_f]Starling[/name_f] does have a very feminine vibe/sound, though not completely unusable. I can imagine a lot of grade school teasing though. It’s not as unisex as say [name_u]Brook[/name_u], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], [name_u]Arden[/name_u], etc.

Some suggestions:

[name_f]Ashling[/name_f] (also a tree to go with your dear [name_f]Willow[/name_f]!)
[name_m]Erling[/name_m]
[name_m]Stirling[/name_m] (little star, spelling slightly less pretentious)
[name_u]Kingsley[/name_u]
[name_m]Forest[/name_m]
[name_u]Aspen[/name_u]
[name_m]Sylvan[/name_m]
[name_u]Oakley[/name_u] / [name_m]Oakes[/name_m]
[name_u]Slate[/name_u]
[name_m]Talon[/name_m]
[name_u]Everest[/name_u] / [name_u]Everett[/name_u]
[name_u]Orion[/name_u]
[name_m]Thorne[/name_m]
[name_m]Wolfe[/name_m]

Good luck!

I have a soon to be 7 month old daughter. We also did not find out gender. We named her [name_f]Willow[/name_f] [name_f]Nicole[/name_f]. I am really into nature names and names that have an -o- sound.

If we have another baby I am liking the name [name_u]Linden[/name_u] or [name_u]Lynden[/name_u]. It is another species of a tree. I like [name_u]Linden[/name_u] because it can be used for a boy or a girl.

I also like [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], [name_m]Coen[/name_m], and [name_u]Everett[/name_u].

I am curious as to what you and your spouse choose! If you think about it let us know when the day comes!

I like [name_f]Starling[/name_f] [name_m]Cole[/name_m] just fine. I suggest [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_u]Shane[/name_u], [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] [name_u]Whit[/name_u], and [name_m]Barclay[/name_m] [name_m]Adams[/name_m].

I prefer [name_u]Sterling[/name_u] to [name_f]Starling[/name_f], but just a personal preference.
