Unique, but not out there

I am very picky with names. I want something unique, but not something too out there (like [name]Ocean[/name] or Waterfall LOL).
Here are some of my thoughts. Let me know what you think. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I deff want to stay away from names that are too common ([name]Isabella[/name], [name]Ava[/name], etc).

Girl: (Middle name must be [name]Jean[/name], after my mother)

[name]Everly[/name]- current favorite, but not set on [name]Everly[/name] [name]Jean[/name]
[name]Eden[/name]- [name]Love[/name] the name, but don’t love [name]Eden[/name] [name]Jean[/name]
Milania
[name]Ayla[/name]
[name]Cora[/name]/ [name]Kora[/name]
Alaria- ([name]Ah[/name]-lar-ah) I think I made this name up, but I do like it. I think I like the way Alaria [name]Jean[/name] sounds.

[name]Ivy[/name]- not sure about it
[name]Milah[/name]- too common?
[name]Emma[/name]- too common?

Boy: (No set middle name… most likely [name]David[/name] or [name]Daniel[/name])

[name]Talen[/name]/ [name]Talan[/name]- Loved, until I got talked out of it due to its meaning.

[name]Eden[/name]- For a boy maybe? Or is that too girly?
[name]Jax[/name]- Growing on me. But would have to be [name]Jax[/name] [name]David[/name]. [name]Jax[/name] [name]Daniel[/name], toooo similar to Jack [name]Daniel[/name] haha
[name]Leo[/name]- Grandfather’s name. Too common?

[name]Leighton[/name]- not sure

I also like [name]Luca[/name] and [name]Hampton[/name]. I like [name]Leighton[/name], but for a girl better. What about [name]Tobias[/name] or [name]Stetson[/name]?

If you don’t want popular names, definitely avoid [name]Emma[/name] and [name]Alivia[/name] (which I assume you would pronounce like [name]Olivia[/name]). [name]Both[/name] of these (based on [name]Olivia[/name] with an O) are more popular than [name]Ava[/name], which you say is too popular for you.

From your girls list, I like [name]Cora[/name] (much better with a C), [name]Vera[/name], and [name]Ivy[/name].

From your list, I like [name]Vera[/name], [name]Ivy[/name], and [name]Ayla[/name]. All three sound beautiful with the middle name [name]Jean[/name].

You mentioned [name]Cora[/name], but have you considered [name]Nina[/name] or [name]Nora[/name]? [name]Cora[/name] is becoming more popular, and both [name]Nina[/name] and [name]Nora[/name] give you similar sounds but without the popularity issue. Also both sound good with the middle name [name]Jean[/name].

On the boys side, I definitly like [name]Leo[/name]. I don’t think it is too popular, and it is a wonderful way to honor your grandfather!

I agree. [name]Emma[/name] and [name]Alivia[/name] are out. I like Emberley [name]Jean[/name], Maybe spelt [name]Emberly[/name]? I’ll have to think about that one. My only concern is my best friend’s name is [name]Amber[/name]. [name]May[/name] be too similar. Thank you for your suggestions! Any more?

[name]Emberly[/name] is not really my style, but I do think that [name]Emberly[/name] [name]Jean[/name] flows nicely.

Milania - I think it’s a little too much
[name]Ayla[/name] - really pretty; good with [name]Jean[/name]
[name]Cora[/name]/[name]Kora[/name] - really on the rise; jumped 80 ranks in popularity in this year alone
Alaria- I would have said [name]Ah[/name]-LAR-ee-ah, not ah-LAR-ah. It’s a pretty sound, but it would be nicer if it had a special meaning to you
[name]Vera[/name] - I like this name said [name]VEER[/name]-ah or VAIR-ah. Not too common. Nice with [name]Jean[/name].
[name]Ivy[/name] - pretty, simple
[name]Milah[/name] - it’s definitely trending up…
[name]Emma[/name] - definitely way too common; the #3 name in the US
[name]Alivia[/name] - like a pp said, its cousin [name]Olivia[/name] is way popular (#4). I don’t think changing the first letter gets you that unusual factor.

[name]Talen[/name]/[name]Talan[/name] - I like the sound, too, but that talon thing is a tad harsh
[name]Aden[/name] - this spelling looks incomplete (I prefer [name]Aiden[/name]), but yes, what with all the Adens, Aydens, Jaydens, Kaydens, Haydens, etc. out there, I’d say too common
[name]Eden[/name] - pretty well established as a girl’s name now…
[name]Jax[/name] - I think this is ok.
[name]Leo[/name] - Really like this name. Ranked in the mid 100s, I don’t know if that’s too common for a boys’ name…

[name]Leighton[/name] - this spelling has been colonized by girls now due to [name]Leighton[/name] Meester’s popularity. [name]Lleyton[/name] is the spelling I’ve seen on guys (like [name]Lleyton[/name] [name]Hewitt[/name] of tennis fame)

[name]Cade[/name] - meh. Strikes me as kind of trendy and made-up
[name]Hampton[/name] - I actually know a guy named [name]Hampton[/name], so I don’t think it’s weird, haha

From the girls, I like [name]Everly[/name], [name]Ayla[/name], and [name]Vera[/name] best as far as unusual but not out-there names go. From the boys, I think that [name]Kai[/name], [name]Reece[/name] (or [name]Rhys[/name]), and [name]Luca[/name] fit the bill best. As for some suggestions…

What about Talmedge/[name]Talmadge[/name] in place of [name]Talan[/name]? Similar feel, and not at all common. I think it’s usable, but I’m sure there are plenty of people who will disagree with me. :slight_smile: I like [name]Talan[/name] anyway though! [name]Luca[/name] may shoot up the charts here soon, since [name]Hilary[/name] [name]Duff[/name] just named her baby this recently. I also like [name]Hampton[/name] and [name]Leo[/name] from your boys list.
From your girls list I really like [name]Everly[/name] and [name]Vera[/name]. The rest are too common, I think, if you’re looking for something less popular. I like the pp’s suggestions of [name]Waverly[/name], [name]Amalia[/name], [name]Corinne[/name], [name]Ivory[/name] and [name]Juniper[/name] for you.
