Unique Floral Names

I’m looking for floral names that aren’t popular but not too out there. I’m thinking along the lines of [name_f]Petal[/name_f], [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f], [name_f]Bryony[/name_f], and [name_f]Iris[/name_f]. Trying to steer clear of popular ones such as [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and too out-there choices like [name_f]Bluebell[/name_f] and [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f].

Any suggestions?

My favorites are [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], [name_f]Azalea[/name_f] and [name_f]Zinnia[/name_f].

[name_m]How[/name_m] 'bout we just list as many as we can think of & you decide what is out there and what works.

I am obsessing over [name_f]Jonquil[/name_f] lately.

[name_f]Jessamine[/name_f]
[name_f]Amaryllis[/name_f]
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] of [name_u]Jericho[/name_u]
[name_f]Acacia[/name_f]

[name_f]Amaryllis[/name_f]
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] of [name_u]Jericho[/name_u]
[name_f]Acacia[/name_f]
[name_f]Tulsi[/name_f] (I just met a little girl named this)

Calluna maybe? It’s the botanical name for heather. Or perhaps [name_f]Fleur[/name_f] or Lunaria (I seem to be stuck on [name_f]Luna[/name_f] names :p).

I actually don’t think [name_f]Bluebell[/name_f] is that out there anymore! [name_u]Blue[/name_u] is accepted now on its own, especially for a middle. And all the bel/bell/belle names are extremely popular right now. It’s on my list for middle name!

[name_f]Diantha[/name_f]
[name_f]Jacinthe[/name_f]
[name_u]Marsh[/name_u] - considered a diminutive of [name_f]Marsha[/name_f], it’s a kind of mallow flower and a place where flowers grow
[name_f]Tea[/name_f] - could pronounce it [name_u]TAY[/name_u]-uh. Type of rose, too.
[name_u]Bell[/name_u] - there’s the aforementioned [name_f]Bluebell[/name_f], Harebells of [name_f]Ireland[/name_f], and other bellflowers in general like [name_m]Wall[/name_m] Bellflower and Fairies’ Thimbles.
[name_f]Iola[/name_f] - underused for how cool-sounding and vintage-y it is.
[name_f]Prunella[/name_f] - to me it sounds a bit silly, but who knows.
[name_f]Iolanthe[/name_f]
[name_f]Flower[/name_f] - yep, so obvious, but rarely used!
[name_f]Blossom[/name_f] - worth more popularity
[name_f]Yolanda[/name_f]
[name_f]Verbena[/name_f] - pretty and vintage-y, nn [name_f]Vera[/name_f] is cool.
[name_f]Fauna[/name_f]
[name_f]Lotus[/name_f] (I’m fond of this as a middle)
[name_f]Camellia[/name_f] - so, so pretty as a flower and equally as a name.
[name_f]Briar[/name_f]
[name_f]Giacinta[/name_f]
[name_f]Heather[/name_f] - I do believe it’s unique these days! I think that it will be even fresher in 5 years, so you could wait to use it or be ahead of the curve. [name_m]Even[/name_m] better on a girl is [name_m]Heath[/name_m]. I think on a girl people won’t be quick to assume you named her after the actor.
[name_f]Tansy[/name_f]
[name_f]Marguerite[/name_f]
[name_u]Rue[/name_u] - this is so great and vintage-y. Needs a comeback.
[name_f]Saffron[/name_f]
[name_f]Orchid[/name_f] - I once met a woman named [name_f]Orchid[/name_f]. I was overjoyed when I found out her name. She loved her name and said she had many compliments her whole life. Because look at it this way, no matter if the name seems a bit awkward, but when you hear it out loud of nowhere and suddenly the flower comes to mind, the beauty of it is so obvious.
[name_f]Violette[/name_f]
[name_f]Violetta[/name_f] - I’ve never cared much for [name_f]Violet[/name_f], but I love Veeohletta.
Mint - cool (haha) as a mn, nn [name_f]Minnie[/name_f]
[name_f]Delphine[/name_f]
[name_f]Delphinia[/name_f]
[name_u]Macey[/name_u] - as a form of sweet mace
[name_f]Yasmin[/name_f]
[name_f]Peony[/name_f] - why not as a middle?
[name_f]Florentina[/name_f]
[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] - for Marjoram!
[name_u]Gardener[/name_u] - on my list for a middle for both girl and boy
[name_f]Gardenia[/name_f] - no idea why this isn’t more popular, especially as a [name_u]Gary[/name_u] namesake.
[name_f]Anise[/name_f]
[name_f]Clover[/name_f] - with the nn [name_u]Love[/name_u], who knows why this isn’t more popular
[name_f]Fennela[/name_f]
Sunflower - For the hippie child? What a perfect middle. It isn’t totally unusable like [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f] or Nasturtium.
Moonflower - these smell nice, and were grown in [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Jefferson[/name_m]'s garden.
Wildflower - nn [name_m]Wild[/name_m] or [name_f]Wilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Snowdrop[/name_f] - also good for a hippie middle.
Amaranth - nn [name_f]Amara[/name_f] or [name_f]Mara[/name_f]
Signet - a type of edible [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] and there is also a bird of the name.
[name_f]Thyme[/name_f]
[name_f]Cypress[/name_f] - not just a tree, but a flower name, too.
[name_f]Susan[/name_f] - as in [name_m]Black[/name_m]-Eyed. Not popular anymore, so it might strike a person as unique.
[name_u]Blaze[/name_u] - a fairly common name for varieties of roses, peonies, sunflowers, etc.
[name_u]Golden[/name_u]
[name_u]Leaf[/name_u] - I think on a girl, this sounds like the name of a pixie or fairy.
[name_f]Maize[/name_f]
Perfume - because that’s what flowers are.
[name_f]Joy[/name_f] - because that’s what flowers bring.

I found the name Fleurange among siblings of an ancestor ([name_m]French[/name_m] meaning ‘flower angel’). I think I prefer Angefleur. it’s interesting in either case.

I love [name_f]Bryony[/name_f] nn [name_f]Bee[/name_f]. Unusual but full of strength.

A great and pretty secret one I love is Cordyline, which is a genus of flowering plants. Beautiful I think!

[name_f]Rosa[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Rose[/name_f]?

Is [name_f]Hyacinth[/name_f] too out-there for you? It has bonus meaning in that it’s also the name of a saint.

What about:

[name_f]Orchid[/name_f]
[name_f]Jonquil[/name_f]
[name_f]Zinnia[/name_f]
[name_f]Azalea[/name_f]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Bryony[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f]
[name_f]Posy[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] (means “laurel”)
[name_f]Laurel[/name_f]
[name_f]Susanna[/name_f] (means “lily”)
[name_f]Flora[/name_f]/[name_f]Fleur[/name_f] (or even one of the more elaborate versions, like [name_f]Florentina[/name_f] or [name_f]Florence[/name_f]?)
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f]
[name_f]Peony[/name_f] (I think it sounds rather like [name_f]Leonie[/name_f], making it more usable. No?)
[name_f]Primrose[/name_f]/[name_u]Penrose[/name_u]
[name_f]Rosamund[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]

Flowers are very symbolic of my mom, so I’m always on the outlook for new and great floral names. I’ve already used [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], and [name_f]Orchid[/name_f] (also Madelief, if that counts. It’s the Dutch word for “daisy”.), and I’m seriously considering [name_f]Jonquil[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] in combos, and would use [name_f]Zinnia[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], and [name_f]Bryony[/name_f] if I could find the right combos. I’m not sure I’d use more than one, but I at least like collecting them.

Good luck!

[name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] - I love the bright yellow [name_f]Carolina[/name_f] Jessamines.
[name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] - that’s what I grew up calling, specifically, the tiny wild daisies, (where I lived in the US) but it’s also just [name_m]French[/name_m] for all daisies.
[name_f]Veronica[/name_f] - little known as a flower, but veronicas are so gorgeous and blue.
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f] - [name_u]Sunny[/name_u] flower with a clunky-cute sound. The consonant clank of “gold” keeps it from floating away.
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] - A grounded tree name I really like. Not hard to explain either. Not hippie.
[name_f]Calanthe[/name_f] - a kind of orchid. Also Greek for ‘beautiful flower’
[name_f]Jonquil[/name_f] - maybe slightly out there, but so sunny.
[name_f]Felicia[/name_f] - a specific kind of blue marguerite. ‘[name_f]Felicia[/name_f] [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f]’ appeals but is a lot of name.
[name_f]Fern[/name_f] - so green and foresty, cool and feathery.
[name_u]Rue[/name_u] - also known as herb-of-grace.
[name_f]Viola[/name_f] - the tiny perennial ones. Much rarer name than [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. Includes the old-fashioned little cottage plants like heartsease. I like [name_f]Violet[/name_f] too but [name_f]Viola[/name_f] is a bit special to me.
Betony - a purple cottage flower. An interesting way to [name_f]Betty[/name_f]. [name_f]BET[/name_f]-‘n’-ee not like [name_f]Bethany[/name_f] without the h, but I bet a lot of people would read it like that.

I don’t think anyone else has mentioned [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] yet. It has some beautiful nicknames as well but we chose [name_f]Meg[/name_f] as our [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]'s nickname. Good luck!
