Hello everyone, my wife and I just found out we are having our second boy, our first boy, [name_m]Kaden[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] is 10 months and we want to find a unique name for him (I can’t stand any normal name, like [name_m]Steve[/name_m], [name_m]Micheal[/name_m], [name_m]Christopher[/name_m], etc etc), so far I like [name_u]Mason[/name_u], my wife likes [name_m]Luka[/name_m] and [name_m]Nikolai[/name_m].
I don’t like her 2 choices because they are eastern European sounding. I’m born and raised in [name_f]Florida[/name_f] with Italian and Irish background, my wife is from [name_u]Trinidad[/name_u] (she is white) and I don’t think those kind of names would fit us. What do you all think about this?
[name_u]Mason[/name_u] is a very common name around here. I like your wife’s choices. I have [name_m]Dmitri[/name_m] on my list despite the fact that neither my husband or myself are Russian or have a Russian background. In today’s world you don’t necessarily have to have an Eastern European background to use those names. However there’s also [name_u]Nico[/name_u] and [name_u]Luca[/name_u] which are of Italian origin if you like those better and of course, [name_m]Luke[/name_m] and [name_m]Lucas[/name_m].
With the popularity of the -aiden names I wouldn’t go too uncommon. Some names that would fit nicely with [name_m]Kaden[/name_m]:
[name_u]Mason[/name_u]
[name_u]Keegan[/name_u] (probably my favorite with [name_m]Kaden[/name_m] if you don’t mind them both having K names)
[name_m]Ethan[/name_m] (my second favorite on this list)
[name_u]Cameron[/name_u]
[name_u]Camden[/name_u]
[name_m]Quinton[/name_m]
[name_u]Bryce[/name_u]
[name_m]Kellen[/name_m]
[name_m]Quinlan[/name_m]
[name_m]Colton[/name_m]
[name_m]Jackson[/name_m]
[name_m]Luka[/name_m] - very much a girl’s name [name_f]IMO[/name_f]
[name_m]Nikolai[/name_m] - I love this name. Also, [name_u]Nico[/name_u] is an awesome nickname.
[name_u]Mason[/name_u] - it’s a fine name.
[name_u]Luca[/name_u] is an Italian name. I’m not sure what your definition of “normal” is, as both [name_m]Kaden[/name_m] and [name_u]Mason[/name_u] are very common.
My idea of “normal” is not about how common the name is now or how many kids will have it in the future. I guess I should start saying new names instead of unique, I can’t stand names of old, like [name_m]Steve[/name_m], [name_m]Micheal[/name_m], [name_m]Christopher[/name_m], [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] etc etc. I could go on for a long while lol. Thanks for your suggestions!
Thanks for the information about [name_u]Mason[/name_u], at the risk of sounding rude, I would like to tell you to go take a quick read through the thread and you will see that the popularity of the name didn’t matter. I stated this in a reply on page 2, check it out. If anyone has more suggestions feel free!
[name_u]Mason[/name_u] is a nice name. The only issue I have is that [name_m]Kaden[/name_m] and [name_u]Mason[/name_u] seem a little matchy due to but ending in similar sounds. Doesn’t bother everyone, but I thought I’d point that out.
Any repeats I second the suggestion.
My ex fiancé was is Italian. Here some boy names we had picked out…
Some other names…
[name_u]Micah[/name_u]
[name_m]Silas[/name_m]
[name_m]Eli[/name_m]
[name_m]Jonas[/name_m]
[name_u]Kai[/name_u] (said as kye)
[name_u]Jude[/name_u]
[name_u]Ari[/name_u]
I love the suggestion of [name_u]Luca[/name_u] and [name_u]Nico[/name_u]! I had friends in college named [name_m]Gino[/name_m] and [name_m]Geo[/name_m] as well.
Have you considered using a name from your wife’s background? I don’t know any personally but that might be a good route to go.
If you say you want a unique name and then say you’re considering [name_u]Mason[/name_u], people are bound to point out that [name_u]Mason[/name_u] is not unique.
I get what you mean. [name_m]Steve[/name_m], [name_u]Michael[/name_u], and [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] are ‘dull’ names to me. I think that’s what you mean by normal, no? I love the suggestions of [name_m]Macsen[/name_m]/[name_m]Maxen[/name_m], [name_u]Luca[/name_u], [name_m]Asher[/name_m], [name_m]Matteo[/name_m], and [name_m]Miles[/name_m]; I think they go wonderfully with [name_m]Kaden[/name_m]. Sorry for any repeats:
If you like [name_u]Nico[/name_u], you could always use the name [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] and then [name_u]Nico[/name_u] as a nickname if you’re interested.
I think [name_u]Mason[/name_u] sounds an awful lot like [name_m]Kaden[/name_m] in that they share the long “a”, two syllables, and ending in “n”. If you yelled it across a playground I think it might be unclear which kid you were calling. [name_m]Just[/name_m] a thought.
Some others you may like (sorry for any repeats):
[name_u]Rory[/name_u] (for whatever reason, the first one I thought of)
[name_u]Owen[/name_u]
[name_m]Russell[/name_m]
[name_m]Jackson[/name_m]
[name_u]Carter[/name_u]
[name_m]Wyatt[/name_m]
[name_m]Austin[/name_m]
[name_m]Cooper[/name_m]
[name_u]Emmett[/name_u]
[name_m]Tanner[/name_m]
[name_u]Finn[/name_u]
[name_u]Paxton[/name_u] ([name_u]Pax[/name_u] would be a great nickname!)
[name_u]Tyson[/name_u]
[name_m]Brock[/name_m]
Also, if you’re comfortable sharing either the surname or characteristics of it (how many syllables, what letters it starts and ends with, what sounds are prominent in it) that may help get names that fit better.
