Unique names at my son's school

My son is a first grader and we had his school carnival this evening. He has a very ethnically diverse school with lots of Native American students. I absolutely love a lot of the names I saw. Here are some worth noting:

[name]Love[/name] [name]Trinity[/name] and [name]Francisco[/name]. I also loved [name]Loki[/name], but then he’s like the Norse god of troublemaking or whatever, right? I steer clear of those, just to be safe. [name]Emerald[/name]'s pretty as well, and I like [name]Magdalene[/name], but I’d probably sooner use [name]Magdalena[/name]. It’s weird that a Native American parent would name their child [name]Lakota[/name] because isn’t that an [name]Indian[/name] Tribe? I thought that was something they didn’t do, name children after tribes

I don’t think there’s any rule on tradition regarding tribal names. I’ve seen [name]Lakota[/name] as first name, and it’s also a surname for some members of the Oglala [name]Lakota[/name]. I love [name]Francisco[/name] too. He’s my son! :slight_smile:

Worst has to go to McKayden. Made up and a mix of two trends?! Plus it’s most likely on a girl… poor kid haha.

[name]Miracle[/name] - I have to say I like this one, it sounds nice, but it’s so much of a word, that I can’t say I love it or would use it. I don’t like overly word names.

[name]Greta[/name] - I’m not a fan, but it’s interesting to see on a younger person.

Hennessy - I think it’s awful because it’s a well known, and well used reference to the alcohol brand. And the fact that you mentioned the high population of Native American’s doesn’t help with the negative stereotyped image either.

JaCory - The sound is fine, the spelling is not. I’d prefer a Jakory.

[name]Francisco[/name] nn [name]Cisco[/name] - [name]Love[/name] it.

[name]Saphron[/name] - I looks like a trendy version of [name]Sapphire[/name], and while I know of the spice [name]Saffron[/name] that doesn’t help matters much imo. I don’t like food names.

[name]Magdalene[/name] nn [name]Maggie[/name] - I really like [name]Magdalene[/name], but not the nn of [name]Maggie[/name]

McKayden - Horrible. It’s probably on a girl like the pp mentioned, and that’s just awful. I’d prefer [name]McKenna[/name].

Edonniss - Huge no from me.

[name]Harley[/name] - I like it a lot.

[name]Trinity[/name] - I don’t associate this name with anything of positive substance, so a huge no.

[name]Stormy[/name] - Awful and negative

[name]Sonny[/name] - I like it, but only as a nickname

[name]Emerald[/name] - I like a lot.

[name]Lakota[/name] - I like a lot.

Memoree - Huge no

[name]Loki[/name] - Not bad, a bit off for my tastes, but not bad.

[name]Heaven[/name] - I dislike. Again, it’s an obvious word name which is very much nms.

[name]Zander[/name] - I’m a huge fan of the name Zender, so this gets a big rating from me.

I love the name [name]Francisco[/name], but my last name ends with an O as well, and it wouldnt sound right.

[name]Loki[/name] is the Norse God of Chaos and mischief. He is a supporter of chaos that ultimately leads to good things.

I know a [name]Francisco[/name] nn [name]Cisco[/name], it’s pretty common amongst hispanics, some of the rest of these names are awful.
