[name_u]Baby[/name_u] will be delivered [name_u]September[/name_u] 7, 2023. Less than a month to go and my husband is not sold on our top name choices. We have two sons, H@rvey and [name_m]Jim[/name_m] (J@mes).
Our top name for a girl is [name_f]Fernanda[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband prefers the name [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], but I have a cousin with that name, and I donāt love how popular it is. The middle name will be [name_f]Patricia[/name_f]. I love [name_f]Patricia[/name_f] as a first name, but my husband only wants it as the middle name.
Our top name for a boy is [name_m]Marvin[/name_m]. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband prefers [name_u]Franklin[/name_u], but I canāt get on board because I have a weird association in my brain between the nickname [name_m]Frank[/name_m] and the F word. Also, I really dislike the nickname [name_u]Frankie[/name_u], and I am a nickname person. So, I donāt think I could just call the child [name_u]Franklin[/name_u] 100% of the time. Plus, I would cringe when other people called them [name_m]Frank[/name_m] or [name_u]Frankie[/name_u].
Names that have been suggested to us a lot before that, we really donāt like are [name_m]Oscar[/name_m], [name_f]Vanessa[/name_f], and [name_f]Francesca[/name_f].
Iām not sure if itās possible, because weāve been talking about names for what feels like years on end, but if you all could think of any suggestions that maybe we havenāt considered that ideally go well with our sonsā names, I would appreciate it so much!
If it helps, my favorite names are [name_m]Lysander[/name_m] and [name_f]Clio[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband hates both. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband really likes [name_f]Camila[/name_f] (another of my cousinās names), [name_u]Edward[/name_u] and [name_u]Earl[/name_u] (after his grandfather).
I really like Marvin!! What about [name_m]Alvin[/name_m]? A combination between [name_m]Marvin[/name_m] and [name_u]Franklin[/name_u]. Other suggestions, [name_m]Chester[/name_m], [name_u]Walter[/name_u], [name_m]Ernest[/name_m], [name_m]Victor[/name_m], [name_m]Calvin[/name_m].
For girl names [name_f]Fernanda[/name_f] is really unexpected, I think itād be really cool to meet someone with this name. For a girl Iāll suggest, [name_f]Philomena[/name_f], [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f], [name_f]Anita[/name_f], [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f]
[name_m]Marvin[/name_m] [name_u]Edward[/name_u] would be great. [name_m]Martin[/name_m] [name_u]Edward[/name_u] (Marty) was the first thing that came to my mind.
[name_f]Roxane[/name_f] [name_f]Patricia[/name_f] or [name_f]Irene[/name_f] [name_f]Patricia[/name_f] (Ren) could work. Another option that I came across is [name_f]Catalina[/name_f] [name_f]Patricia[/name_f].
[name_u]Wren[/name_u] is my only niece. I campaigned for them to name her [name_f]Catalina[/name_f], after their favorite [name_u]Island[/name_u] where they got engaged. So, I like those names, but couldnāt use them.
If [name_u]Edward[/name_u] is the name of his grandfather is [name_f]Edith[/name_f] on the table for a girl? [name_m]Harvey[/name_m] , [name_m]Jim[/name_m] and [name_f]Edith[/name_f] sounds perfect for you! For a boy [name_u]Evan[/name_u] would work really well.
Personally for girls the sound of [name_m]Harvey[/name_m] , [name_m]Jim[/name_m] and [name_f]Faye[/name_f] is too cute to pass up. For boys I like [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] but Iām not sure how you feel about two kids with H names.
Hope this late stage info is helpful and not too overwhelming!
My two cents, Harvey, Jim &:
For girls, Iām not sure about Fernanda. It is a statement name. But I know two Fernandas and they donāt like their names - one uses Fernie and wishes she were just Fern/Fearne. Could that be an option? Or Faye or Flora or Fleur? The other (nickname Nanda) finds it too Spanish sounding for being a Brit (that might be problematic but I can see where sheās coming from as people ask her to repeat her name or explain where itās from practically every time she introduces herself). I like Camila - or probably Camilla (unless Camila more culturally meaningful). Itās a pretty name and I love Cami and Milla! And agree with above poster that Edith would be delightful.
Other names you both might like:
Sylvia (Sylvie is too close to Harvey)
Sylviana
Theodora
Isadora
Anastasia
Anoushka

Susannah

Livia

Re boys, I donāt like Frank/Frankie (for a boy or girl) either! And my reservation with Marvin is its proximity to Harvey - Marvey & Harvey, leaving out little Jim! I really like Edward nn Ted.
How about:
Everett
Emmett

Edwin
Emrys
Evander

Harry
Hugh (though H names prob not ideal)
Archer/Archie

Wilbur
Willem
Tobias / Tobin nn Toby
Rafferty
And my fave boysā name: Sebastian
[name_f]Fernanda[/name_f] doesnāt seem like the best fit with brothers [name_m]Harvey[/name_m] & [name_m]Jim[/name_m] with such a Spanish/Latino soundā¦ but I do love pp suggestion of [name_f]Cassandra[/name_f]! [name_f]Amanda[/name_f] also feels like it shares a lot of your favorite sounds but fits in better. I love [name_f]Patricia[/name_f] or even [name_u]Patrice[/name_u]!
[name_m]Marvin[/name_m] also seems too close to [name_m]Harvey[/name_m] with both having that -arv sound. [name_m]Marv[/name_m] & [name_m]Harv[/name_m] leave out poor [name_m]Jim[/name_m]! I do love [name_u]Franklin[/name_u] (and Frankie) but appreciate your negative associationsā¦ what about [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u]? That seems like a cross between styles.
It sounds like step 1 for you guys is to get on the same page. Neither of you like the other oneās names, and maybe that isnāt going to be solved by continually trying to convince each other?
If you have a girl, I think the best of your name options that fits with your sibset is [name_f]Clio[/name_f] (vs. [name_f]Camila[/name_f], [name_f]Fernanda[/name_f], or Patricia). Since your husband doesnāt like [name_f]Clio[/name_f], maybe consider some of these similar names:
[name_f]Athena[/name_f] [name_f]Patricia[/name_f]
[name_f]Gaia[/name_f] [name_f]Patricia[/name_f]
[name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_f]Patricia[/name_f]
[name_f]Clea[/name_f] [name_f]Patricia[/name_f]
[name_u]Briar[/name_u] [name_f]Patricia[/name_f]
[name_f]Sonia[/name_f] [name_f]Patricia[/name_f]
If you have a boy, the name I like most of the names you mentioned is [name_u]Franklin[/name_u], but obviously you donāt like potential nicknames for it. Some alternative nicknames would be Franks, [name_m]Franz[/name_m], or [name_u]France[/name_u]. I like [name_u]Franklin[/name_u] over [name_m]Lysander[/name_m], [name_m]Marvin[/name_m], [name_u]Edward[/name_u] or [name_u]Earl[/name_u] because I think it works better with your sibset. Some other ideasā¦
[name_m]Harrison[/name_m] [name_u]Earl[/name_u]
[name_u]Lincoln[/name_u] [name_u]Earl[/name_u]
[name_u]Everett[/name_u] [name_m]Lysander[/name_m]
[name_u]Walter[/name_u] [name_u]Edward[/name_u]
[name_u]Watson[/name_u] [name_u]Earl[/name_u]
I like [name_u]Franklin[/name_u] more as a middle name. Probably because my grandfather was [name_u]George[/name_u] [name_u]Franklin[/name_u].
[name_u]Earl[/name_u] [name_u]Franklin[/name_u] would be handsome.
[name_f]Camilla[/name_f] [name_f]Patricia[/name_f] and [name_f]Fernanda[/name_f] [name_f]Patricia[/name_f] are okay. I think [name_u]Cleo[/name_u] [name_f]Patricia[/name_f] is so sweet. Other suggestions
[name_m]Harvey[/name_m], [name_u]James[/name_u], and
Update: We are now tossing around the names [name_u]Stanley[/name_u] and [name_m]Ted[/name_m] (Edward). [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] is not a consideration because my sister-in-lawās top name is [name_u]Theo[/name_u] and my husband isnāt a [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] fan, anyway. [name_f]My[/name_f] three-year-old is suggesting the name Tain/Tane. I actually kind of love it as a middle name because it rhymes with both my middle name and my husbandās middle name, and has a nice meaning. If you pronounce it properly in Polynesian, I donāt think it would still rhyme, but that doesnāt bother me for a middle name. [name_m]Marvin[/name_m] [name_m]Tane[/name_m] would have the same initials as my sister-in-law. Any thoughts on [name_m]Stan[/name_m], [name_m]Ted[/name_m], or [name_m]Tane[/name_m]? Thank you for all of the suggestions!! Itās really helping us think.
