Hello all! I’m wondering if you can add to my list of I names for girls. No Irises, Isabelles or Isabellas please. I’m looking for a little more unique/unusual. Here’s what we have so far:
İdil
Iklima, one of my favorites daughter of [name_m]Adam[/name_m]
Ikra
[name_m]Ilara[/name_m]
Ilayda
Ileyna
[name_f]Ilke[/name_f]
Ilkim
Imer
Ismirna
[name_m]Ilya[/name_m]
[name_f]Iolanthe[/name_f] – a beautiful name, though it would probably have some pronunciation issues and only works if you’re interested in the “I” letter rather than the “I” sound.
One of my favourite ‘I’ names is [name_f]Ina[/name_f]. Pronounced ‘EE-nah’. I think it’s even prettier than [name_f]Lina[/name_f] or [name_f]Mina[/name_f], and yet it’s virtually unused.
[name_f]Inez[/name_f] or [name_f]Ines[/name_f]
[name_f]Ina[/name_f]
[name_f]Ianthe[/name_f]
[name_f]Iseult[/name_f]
Irène ([name_f]Irene[/name_f] is not unusual, although it’s certainly not in use these days and would therefore stand out. To make it even more special, use the [name_m]French[/name_m] pronunciation of ee-[name_u]REN[/name_u]).
[name_f]Irena[/name_f]
[name_f]Irina[/name_f]
[name_f]Iulia[/name_f] - So pretty.
Isara
[name_f]Izara[/name_f] - very cool name, imo.
[name_u]Ira[/name_u] - long used for boys, it’s now considered unisex.
[name_f]Ilona[/name_f] - I love this vintage name.
[name_f]Ilana[/name_f]
[name_f]Ianna[/name_f] or [name_f]Iana[/name_f] - pronounced ‘YAWN-ah’
Ixora
[name_f]Ida[/name_f] is rare enough, and it can become really cool as a double barelled first, e.g., [name_f]Ida[/name_f]-[name_f]Belle[/name_f] (what a way to stand apart from the Isabelles!), [name_f]Ida[/name_f] [name_f]Ellen[/name_f], [name_f]Ida[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f], [name_f]Ida[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f].
My name is [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] and my nickname is [name_f]Ina[/name_f]!! I actually gave it to myself because I couldn’t pronounce my name as a baby! My closest family always calls me [name_f]Ina[/name_f], I love it!
Illyria
Istria (these two are used as names, but are regions in the Balkans)
[name_f]Islay[/name_f] (Scottish island, pronounced like eye-la)
Ismaria (a medieval saint who was from [name_f]Africa[/name_f])
[name_f]Idony[/name_f] (a Norse goddess)
[name_f]Iria[/name_f] (A Portuguese form of [name_f]Irene[/name_f])
And I second [name_f]Ione[/name_f]/[name_f]Iona[/name_f]!!
What about Igraine? She was the mother of [name_m]King[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]. I’ve always loved it, especially if you are looking for an uncommon alternative to [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f].
