Haha, I know what you mean, anytime I bring up names with family or friends I’ve just come to expect the eye-roll to follow by now.
I would love to give you my opinions on your list. I removed the ones that I don’t personally care for but I’ll comment on the rest! =]
[name]August[/name]: (Auggie, [name]Gus[/name]) This is my favorite of all the month names. It seems like a strong choice for a boy and gives me such a great mental image of a sandy-blonde little boy in an olive green scarf pulling a wagon full of crunchy fallen leaves!
[name]Bennett[/name]: ([name]Ben[/name], [name]Bennie[/name]) This has always seemed like such a sophisticated name choice to me, probably due to an almost exclusive Pride and Prejudice association. It makes me think of an incredibly well-mannered young man with dark curly hair and dimples.
[name]Felix[/name]: (Fi?) I know the name is wildly popular on this site, and I must admit that I was previously not a huge fan of the sound, though I definitely see the appeal based on it’s “happy” meaning. The ‘x’ ending is favorable for sure and seems to give a bit of sparkle to it.
[name]Hugo[/name]: ([name]Hugh[/name], [name]Hurley[/name]…) I appreciate this name for both sound and many positive associations with it. My first thought is always [name]Hugo[/name] Weaving and as such I imagine it would be the name of someone who speaks with an exotic (to me) accent, Australian or English.
[name]Isaac[/name]: ([name]Ike[/name], [name]Zac[/name]) Admittedly my immediate thought is of the oldest [name]Hansen[/name] brother, but a friend of mine just used this for her new son last year and I am starting to see how great it is for a toddler as well as handsome on an adult. [name]Brown[/name] hair and just a hint of a smirk.
[name]Jasper[/name]: ([name]Jazz[/name]) I used to think this was the perfect unique choice until Twilight made it a bit more popular, but even still it’s a great choice. I had a crush on a [name]Jasper[/name] in high school, so I picture a tall boy with a very ‘Southern Gentleman’ type of charm.
[name]Joel[/name]: ([name]Joe[/name]?) [name]Love[/name] it. First heard because of [name]Joel[/name] [name]Madden[/name], and now my favorite character on the show Parenthood. I have met a few others with this name. I still get a similar feel from all of them though, dark shining eyes, a modest little smile, and a dimple in the chin.
[name]Jude[/name]: I adore it, but you would definitely have to brace yourself haha… [name]Every[/name] single person you ever meet will sing “Hey [name]Jude[/name]” to him, constantly. It’s short, sweet and a bit of a softer choice which makes me love it on any little boy who hasn’t yet had his first haircut.
[name]Leonard[/name]: ([name]Leo[/name], [name]Leon[/name]) I really prefer [name]Leonardo[/name] (due to Da [name]Vinci[/name] and DiCaprio) but [name]Leonard[/name] is a great way to get nn [name]Leo[/name] as well. I definitely associate it with the ‘Big Bang [name]Theory[/name]’ character nowadays but it is a strong choice and of course you get the lion motif.
[name]Miles[/name]: I am not usually big on word names so I owe any fondness for this name to the show LOST. I just happen to like most of the names they used for their characters so even though I wouldn’t use it myself, I would still love to come across a cute little [name]Miles[/name].
[name]Patrick[/name]: ([name]Pat[/name], [name]Paddy[/name], [name]Rick[/name], [name]Ricky[/name]) A great choice that just screams ‘strong’ and simultaneously ‘adorable jaunty redhead’. Definitely firmly rooted in Irish imagery for me, I personally love the ending of this name. Any of the -ic, -ick sounds are my favorite things.
[name]Peter[/name]: ([name]Pete[/name]) [name]Peter[/name] [name]Pan[/name], [name]Peter[/name] [name]Parker[/name], [name]Peter[/name] Pettigrew, [name]Peter[/name] [name]Piper[/name], [name]Peter[/name] Pevensie… There is just something about this name that demands to be alliterated, haha. You will never run out of associations for it, and any child would love to hear you read [name]Peter[/name] Rabbit!
[name]Van[/name]: “Yes, like the car.” The downside is that it has no nicknames (because it doesn’t need one) and in fact is kind of the epitome of an ‘uncool’ vehicle. That is my first thought, but then again, how entertaining was the goofy character [name]Van[/name] on the show [name]Reba[/name]? =]
