Below is a list of my favorite names. I was reading a different thread on the name [name]Teagan[/name], and how it is used by lower class families. I never thought of that before, and am wondering what you think of the names below. I don’t want to be a name snob, and I would use any name if I LOVED it, but also don’t want to use a name that is known as low class.
I mostly love classic & vintage girl names with a modern feel, but a few trendier names too (ie [name]Teagan[/name]). My daughter is named [name]Dani[/name], which I know is tomboyish sounding/trendier than say [name]Sophie[/name] or something, so I want a name that goes with it…but since it is not classic/vintage/overly girly, it is hard to pick a name I [name]LOVE[/name] that goes with it. What do you all think of my list? My sons names are [name]Max[/name] and [name]Levi[/name].
[name]Eliza[/name]
[name]Aubrey[/name]
[name]Lily[/name]
[name]Nora[/name]
[name]Avery[/name]
[name]Sloane[/name] (does this sound pretentious…want to avoid that)
[name]Eva[/name]
[name]Teagan[/name]
My pick would be [name]Nora[/name]. I also think [name]Aubrey[/name] would be a great fit, but it may get confusing because of its ending in “ee” like [name]Dani[/name] (and possibly [name]Levi[/name] too, if you pronounce it leh-VEE).
I too don’t care for [name]Teagan[/name] as a girl name…or a boy name for that matter. [name]Just[/name] can’t see the appeal period. Your other children have lovely names. I have a girl [name]Elliott[/name] after a deceased family member and we are struggling with finding a name for dd#2 that isn’t too frilly as well. Is [name]Dani[/name] short for something? [name]Sloane[/name] is nice and so is [name]Quinn[/name]. I think there is a blog here on nameberry listing some unisex names that are great…good luck!
I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]SLOANE[/name]!
…I just thought I should say that
I think that [name]Nora[/name] would fit in better with your kids… and, I don’t know if you’re looking for suggestions, but, I recently discovered a name that I have now fallen in love with… [name]Ramona[/name]… It doesn’t sound pretentious, and it’s quite obviously a girls name without being too frilly (: The same as [name]Sloane[/name]! (:
I’m really happy that you like [name]Sloane[/name]
From your list, I’d say the ones that could be construed as lower class are [name]Aubrey[/name], [name]Avery[/name] and [name]Teagan[/name] for the simple reason that they are extremely trendy at the moment (as part of the surname trend) and when trendy names start to go over the hill (is that even a phrase??) they start to sound downmarket. [name]Just[/name] look at [name]Ashley[/name], [name]Courtney[/name], and [name]Tiffany[/name]. [name]Sloane[/name], to me, gets the worst of both worlds. I can see it going either way, pretentious and downmarket, since it falls into that trend but also is the sort of stereotypical upper-class surname name.
My favorites from your list are [name]Eliza[/name], [name]Lily[/name], [name]Nora[/name], and [name]Eva[/name]. [name]Eva[/name] in particular is a favorite of mine! I think [name]Eva[/name] and [name]Lily[/name] both may be too close to [name]Levi[/name], though, so I think [name]Eliza[/name] and [name]Nora[/name] go best with your other kids’ names. I dont think ANY of your names are downmarket or lowerclass sounding. Irisrose, you shocked me on [name]Avery[/name]…lol…most nameberries like [name]Avery[/name]…I think its far from downmarket.
I couldn’t figure out how to reply directly to your post, but from this list of yours:
[name]Audrey[/name]=I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Audrey[/name] Hepburn, and it is a classy name similar to [name]Aubrey[/name] but obviously all girl,
I sitll love [name]Aubrey[/name] though b/c of 2 people I know (my own age) who are such great/beautiful/awesome girls so I love the name…people that don’t see the appeal don’t know these [name]Aubrey[/name]'s
[name]Claire[/name]=okay
[name]Alexa[/name]=my last name starts with an a, so names ending in a don’t sound that great, but this is a great name
[name]Tessa[/name]=was on my fave list for a long time, I just think I like the other names better
[name]Lena[/name]=this is one of my fave names ever, but maybe too close to my son [name]Levi[/name]'s name
[name]Cora[/name]=I knew a 90 year old with this name so that is all I can think of
[name]Margo[/name]=negative stereotype associated with this name from a book I read
