Hello from Labour & Delivery where I will shortly find out whether we are going to have a baby today! I’m 38 weeks pregnant and the baby is unfortunately lying transverse so my options are trying to flip her and then inducing or going straight to a c-section.
[name_f][/name_f]
I have 6 other children and this will be our last baby. [name_f]My[/name_f] other children’s names are:
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Max[/name_m] [name_m]Eero[/name_m] (a Finnish name pronounced similar to “arrow”) [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Sofie[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] (though she now chooses to go by the name August) [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Heidi[/name_f] [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_m]Wolf[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Emma[/name_f] [name_f]Winter[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f]
This baby is another girl (!) and we’re hoping to find a name that fits with her siblings and is easy to pronounce and spell. We are Canadian (English speaking) and our background is [name_f]British[/name_f], [name_m]German[/name_m], [name_m]Dutch[/name_m], and Scandinavian. We’re ok with popular names but don’t like unique spellings. I really hesitated on the spelling of our daughter Sofie’s name. I preferred [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], but my husband liked the spelling that’s more common in [name_f]Germany[/name_f] and Scandinavia so we ultimately went with his choice. We don’t have any family names we want to use. Our last name is a hyphenated name starting with the letters P-K.
[name_f][/name_f]
Some names I like are [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Isabel[/name_f], [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] (or possibly Amelia), [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], [name_f]Kate[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], Ruby…
I really like [name_f]Isabel[/name_f], [name_f]Ruby[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] for you!! [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] is nice but too close to [name_f]Emma[/name_f] imo.
I really like [name_f]Kate[/name_f] with your set! I think [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_f]Ruby[/name_f] are close to [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], and Emilia/Amelia too close to [name_f]Emma[/name_f]. But [name_f]Kate[/name_f] seems just right.
A few combos for you to ponder, both with your names and other similar suggestions. [name_m]The[/name_m] trend is shorter first names so I will keep it 3 syllables or less:
I would choose: Isabel (I also like Isobel), Violet or Phoebe! Kate’s a bit too simple/stark with your other, pretty names but it would be my fourth pick. Kate does have a lot of punch!
Emilia/Amelia is too close to Emma as others have said, especially as the next baby in birth order. Ruby and Lily are a little close to Lucy - and I also see them very much “the youngest child” names. That’s not a dealbreaker, as they can be used for any child - just that often the youngest child gets a more “cutesy” name.
Other names:
Mary
Rose
Iris
Ivy
Tess
Jane
Fleur
Freya
Helen or Helena (nn Leni)
Margot
Sylvie
Astrid
Ingrid (nn Indi)
Annika
Frances
Beatrice
Ophelia (nn Lily) - but note the Taylor Swift effect (likely to be very popular in 2026) - edit: also Ophelia is probably too close to Sofie
Some middles:
Seven
Septima
Eden
Ever
Alma
Livia / Liv
Finn (play on fin meaning final)
Seraphina
Congratulations [name_f][/name_f] I hope everything goes smoothly for you! [name_f]My[/name_f] favorites from your list are:
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- [name_f]She[/name_f] has her own distinct sound but fits in well with big siblings’ names. I think she has a similar energy to [name_f]Heidi[/name_f], [name_f]Clara[/name_f], & [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] (kinda cottagecore) while still fitting in with more classic choices like [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_f]Sofie[/name_f], & [name_m]Max[/name_m].
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]Isabel[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- [name_f]She[/name_f] (again) has her own distinct sound, but [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] leans stylistically closer to [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_f]Sofie[/name_f], & [name_m]Max[/name_m] for me. She’s a lovely choice as well!
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]Ruby[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- [name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Ruby[/name_f]! I do see some similarities between her & L u c y, but seeing that she goes by [name_m]August[/name_m] I don’t think it’s really an issue.
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- She’s sunshiny, sweet, & fits in well with big siblings’ names
[name_f][/name_f]
A few more ideas: [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Olive[/name_f], [name_f]June[/name_f], [name_f]Florie[/name_f], [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], [name_f]Tessa[/name_f], [name_f]Abigail[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Norah[/name_f], [name_f]Celine[/name_f], & [name_f]Audra[/name_f]
I can’t help but find patterns in sets of sibling names so a name ending in a rounds out your set as far as birth names go and a middle name starting with M means two of each letter used for middle names at least with your girls.
Otherwise if you want to consider August’s chosen name I like your choice of Violet with your set
[name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Isabel[/name_f], [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Ruby[/name_f] are beautiful and would work well with the other names
[name_f][/name_f]
Some other names that might work as well for first or middle names
[name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] and [name_f]Kate[/name_f] all work in their own ways.
[name_f][/name_f]
Something like [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] or [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] or [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] [name_f]Juniper[/name_f] fits the classic-but-modern style of [name_f]Sofie[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Clara[/name_f] and [name_f]Emma[/name_f]. This one is my favorite.
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]Lily[/name_f] is lovely and I can see it working with [name_f]Sofie[/name_f], [name_m]Max[/name_m], [name_f]Clara[/name_f] and [name_f]Emma[/name_f]. [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]?
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]Kate[/name_f] is good with [name_m]Max[/name_m] and [name_f]Emma[/name_f] but also with the longer names.
[name_f][/name_f]
Suggestions [name_f][/name_f]-
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]Ada[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] (I think this one rounds out the set very nicely at the end)
I would eliminate [name_f]Lily[/name_f] & [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] since they’re repeat initials. [name_f]Kate[/name_f] has the same beginning sound as [name_f]Clara[/name_f] so I’d eliminate her. [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] I’d eliminate too because she feels a little more rare and harder to spell for some people than your other girls. [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] has multiple spelling choices so she may not be as intuitive for some people spelling wise.
[name_f][/name_f]
I really like [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Ruby[/name_f] with your other kids names!
