[name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] is a name that has been on my outskirts list for a long time, but never really made my top top favorites. However, I’ve realized she is actually super similar to my top favs - is 4 syllables, grand, Greek mythology ties, and has a cute spunky unisex nn in [name_f]Romy[/name_f]
I’ve also been mega-crushing on the combo [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], which is maybe why she’s coming to mind!!
So, here are some questions:
Is [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] usable in real life? Would you be surprised to meet a little [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f]? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it’s wearable, or is it so grand that it’s laughable?
Also on the nickname front: I LOVE [name_f]Romy[/name_f] as a nn for her and also quite like [name_f]Annie[/name_f], but I do not like [name_f]Andie[/name_f] for personal reasons. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_f]Andie[/name_f] is avoidable with [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f]?
If you know me and my style, do you think [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] nn [name_f]Romy[/name_f] fits with my top names? Could she work as a sister for my top names?
[name_f]My[/name_f] top names are: [name_f]Augusta[/name_f] (August), [name_f]Clelia[/name_f] (Clio), [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] (girls) and [name_m]Daphnis[/name_m], [name_m]Lysander[/name_m] (Sandy), [name_m]Laertes[/name_m] (Lars) (boys)
Any other thoughts you have on [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] - emojis, vibes, just random thoughts, I’d love to hear!!
Thank you all!! So looking forward to reading the responses
I would be surprised but I would also think it was cool - like, I would be excited to meet one and I would be telling everyone about it too.
In terms of usability, having worked with kids and teens, there are students with names this big and bold and not just a handful of them. Plus, [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] has familiar sounds - a bit like [name_f]Amanda[/name_f], [name_f]Annie[/name_f], [name_f]Anna[/name_f], [name_f]Andrea[/name_f], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_f]Andie[/name_f], [name_f]Antonia[/name_f] - so while it is unexpected, it doesn’t feel totally out of place.
If you never use [name_f]Andie[/name_f] and you also correct people, she may follow the example. She might introduce herself as [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f], but I go by Annie/Romy which might stop [name_f]Andie[/name_f]? But as ever, there’s no guarantee if she likes it or if someone decides it suits her and it sticks?
I think so! A longer, bolder name, with a fun, unexpected nickname.
[name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] feels starry and cool, clunky (in a good way), distinctive and interesting. It is fun to say and is pleasing to look at
I’d definitely be surprised, but would never laugh. I think it’s actually cool.
[name_f]Andie[/name_f] is an intuitive nickname, but not the only one so I think it’s still avoidable. I think Anna/Annie and [name_f]Romy[/name_f] work, especially if you stick with it.
I think [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] fits just fine on your list.
A long time ago, I read a book with [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] (who goes strictly by Anna) as the main character. A kind, loving, strong-willed girl. So that and of course the galaxy and mythological associations are my immediate thoughts.
[name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] would be surprising but I really like it and think its totally usable. She could choose [name_f]Andie[/name_f] herself but since there are other equally intuitive nicknames you’re going for I think you could avoid other people using it. It goes great with your other names.
I would be surprised, but seriously excited. I love [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f]!
[name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] is not an insult, unpronounceable in [name_f]English[/name_f] (since I know you’re in the US), or the name of an evil dictator, so I think it’s wearable. It’s a weird name, but in a cool way, not a “that poor kid” kind of way.
As for nicknames, [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] is rare enough that I doubt any particular nickname is unavoidable. [name_f]Andie[/name_f] is the most intuitive nickname in my opinion, but [name_f]Annie[/name_f] and [name_f]Romy[/name_f] also make sense and you shouldn’t have to correct people that often.
I think [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] “Romy” fits pretty well with the six names you mentioned here. I love [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] and [name_m]Lysander[/name_m] together
The emojis I get for [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] would be or something like that.
I love, love, love [name_f]Romy[/name_f] as a nickname! While [name_f]Andie[/name_f] might come to mind first, it’s an easy correction, and [name_f]Romy[/name_f] still feels intuitive.
I think the only thing that makes [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] feel less wearable is the fact that it’s less common. However I don’t see how it’s any different from any other longer names, like [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f], or [name_f]Angelina[/name_f] (all of which I’ve met and no one would bat an eye at). I’d never call [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] laughable.
If I met an [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] I’d be excited and think she had such a cool name. It’s easy to pronounce and has an interesting meaning and association, immediately making me think of the galaxy. I associate it with starry nights and blue velvet.
I mean, I personally would be thrilled to meet a little [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f]! As regards the general public, I agree with [name_f]Grace[/name_f], I think that because it shares similar sounds to other names, and has usable nicknames, it would be considered unique, but not un-wearable.
Probably. It is the most obvious, but [name_f]Romy[/name_f] and [name_f]Anne[/name_f] also make sense, so if you only use those other people with catch on. It is true that for a casual nickname that her friends might call her, for example, [name_f]Andie[/name_f] might be used. I think there is a difference between that and going by a nickname the majority of the time- to the point of introducing herself as that nickname- like [name_f]Romy[/name_f] for example.
Does that make sense? Sorry for the bad explanation. :).
I think she fits well on your list!
With your top names (assuming [name_f]Augusta[/name_f], [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f], and Clelia) she does feel a bit more fantastical (less summery and more night sky, although she does match the bold, vibrant feel they have.)
With other, more mystical names on your list (like Rosfrith, [name_f]Kerensa[/name_f], Rosafiere, and Faye) she fits wonderfully!
I thinks [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] is a great name! I picture someone who is loving, loyal, strong, with a great imagination. I would see her being into science, but also someone who loves reading and art- very well-rounded, grounded, and someone who really lives in the moment.
Her colour is deep red/purple, but I also get starry night vibes, of course.
I think its usable, she could be [name_f]Anna[/name_f] or [name_m]Andy[/name_m] if she wanted a more common name, but I think [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] is recognizable and easily pronounceable. I’ve met a little [name_f]Athena[/name_f] which honestly seems harder to wear than [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] to me. It is a dramatic and grand sounding name, but I think she would work very well with all your top names (except maybe Augusta)
I do think [name_f]Andie[/name_f] is possible to avoid, but if she wants to be [name_f]Andie[/name_f] to her friends there’s nothing you can do about that. I think if she does have other nicknames then people wouldn’t randomly call her [name_f]Andie[/name_f], but she may still choose to be called [name_f]Andie[/name_f] at some point.
I would be a bit hesitant to put [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] and [name_f]Augusta[/name_f] as sisters because they have very different vibes but similar sounds, but it could work. I think [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] fits beautifully with the rest of your list.
This is sort of the imagery I get from [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f]
Absolutely usable imo! I’d be super thrilled to meet a little [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f]. It’s a gorgeous name, and in a way it feels quite grounded and down to earth. It feels similar to [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] or [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. [name_m]Long[/name_m], and elaborate, but strong and substantial.
I don’t think Andie’s 100% avoidable, since it’s very much down to the preferences of the person wearing the name. But there are plenty of other options.
I think [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] fits in really well.
I very much get strong, badass vibes from [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f]. She’s a mix of the stars, exploration, and discovery. She’s level headed, thoughtful, intelligent, self assured, ambitious, and confident. She could be a scientist, artist, lawyer, business person, but she’d always be passionate and know what she wants and how to get it.
It’s very obviously grand, so I can imagine some people finding it a bit funny, but you could say that for any name that has a more dramatic flair to it. I don’t think that makes it unusable or unwearable! Especially with how many nicknames it has.
I don’t think it’s avoidable. [name_f]My[/name_f] instinctual nickname would be [name_f]Annie[/name_f], but that’s probably because “nd” sounds don’t exist in Greek and they don’t come as naturally to me I think an Engliish-speaker who’s used to [name_f]Andrea[/name_f] nn [name_f]Andie[/name_f] may very well default to that as a nickname. I think you can enforce specific nicknames, but only if you use them very frequently (so if you introduced her as [name_f]Romy[/name_f], no one would call her [name_f]Andie[/name_f] just because her full name is [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f], but if you introduced her as [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] then I could see [name_f]Andie[/name_f] being the most likely choice for whoever wants to refer to her by a friendly, affectionate nickname).
1.I think [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] is super cool, regal and celestial. It might raise a few eyebrows, but hey, I know two [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m], a [name_f]Muriel[/name_f], a Radford… In the 2020s people name kids what they want!
I don’t think [name_f]Andie[/name_f] is unavoidable, but I think [name_f]Annie[/name_f] is much more intuitive of a nickname than [name_f]Romy[/name_f].
I think she fits perfectly with your other ideas. I would be so excited to meet a sibset with any of those names. [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] + [name_f]Clelia[/name_f] or [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] = swoon
[name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] is really bold, and like you said grand, but I think it works. It does make me think of [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m]
It kind of straddles the line for me, I’d generally think of it as gp but it also doesn’t stand out as something that really shouldn’t be used. I think most of it depends on where you live and what type of people you’re usually around. I might be caught off guard a little if I met one, but wouldn’t be totally surprised since brave, adventurous names are becoming more commonplace nowadays. It is a bit grand, but I wouldn’t say laughable, more in a slightly out-of-place way, at worst.
I’d guess [name_f]Andie[/name_f] would be the most common thing to default to, but it still feels avoidable since [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] isn’t a name people are super used to hearing, and especially if you used another nickname. I like [name_f]Annie[/name_f] and [name_f]Romy[/name_f]!
It definitely fits!
Honestly I really like it, it does have sort of the same grand, magical vibe as other mythological names, but something about it also feels more chilled out and mysterious, which I like.
Also I really like [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] as a combo, the classic middle evens it out nicely.
I think Andromeda is usable. However, I also think it may depend on where you live. I believe Andromeda needs a strong, lively, or charismatic personality. Similar to Artemis, Cassiopeia, or Calliope.
Andie would be my first thought. Annie is lovely, too. Romy is not as intuitive, but it may work. Domi/Domie/Domy, Dora, Meda, Roma, or Meddie are other alternatives.
Lysander and Laertes are good matches for Andromeda. The others feel too simple, in my opinion. From your user card, I would choose Gwyneira, Thessaly, Elletra, Clover, Odessa, Ferelith, Kerensa, Valentine, Stellan, Rafferty, Meridian, Alistair, Althea and Cressida. You also have great ideas on your listography.
For some reason, I imagine Andromeda as a tall woman. Someone with dark hair. Confident, hardworking, and elegant.
I like the idea of [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f], but I don’t know if I consider it usable in reality. It is very grand, and I can imagine someone shy really hating it as their name.
I love the name [name_f]Romy[/name_f] so much. I would not like it as much for [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] because the initials don’t match (I go by nn that starts with a different letter from my first name and I kind of hate it, especially when I am assigned a work email address using the first letter from my real first name, which nobody calls me). I think [name_f]Andie[/name_f] is only avoidable as a nn if you never actually call your daughter [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f].
I think [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] is close enough to your other names that it would fit.
While I don’t personally think [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] is usable, I do have respect for space names
