I was wondering how usable [name_u]Nev[/name_u] (with the ‘NEEV’ pronunciation) is in real life. For future reference, obviously
Is the pronunciation not instinctive enough? [name_m]Will[/name_m] it confuse people?
I’m also not a big fan of [name_u]Nev[/name_u] Schulman (whose birthname is Yaniv), who seems the only obvious namesake for the name with this particular pronunciation. Is it inevitable that people would bring him up?
My first thought was [name_u]Nev[/name_u] Schulman, and although I don’t really have any strong feelings towards him one way or the other, it’s because of him that I know how to pronounce that name. I don’t think people would necessarily associate little baby [name_u]Nev[/name_u] with the guy from Catfish, but honestly just him having a decent level of fame might help with people knowing more about the name.
I’ve never heard of [name_u]Nev[/name_u] Schulman. When I read the name in the title I thought it rhymed with [name_f]Bev[/name_f]. “Neev” would likely be mistaken for the Irish girls’ name [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] in [name_f]Ireland[/name_f] and the UK. Probably not an issue if you live elsewhere though.
I’ve never heard of [name_u]Nev[/name_u] Schulman either. I would assume it was pronounced with a short “e” sound, but I think pronunciation is easily corrected.
I thought this was prn like [name_m]Neville[/name_m] without the ‘ille’, I’ve never heard this name before… If it was sp ‘Niv’ it might be more intuitive to prn it like ‘Neev’? Nice name though!
I, too, thought it was pronounced to rhyme with [name_f]Bev[/name_f], and thought of [name_f]Neve[/name_f] [name_u]Campbell[/name_u]. I like [name_u]Nev[/name_u] with your pronunciation, if you don’t mind correcting it once in awhile.
I would pronounce it [name_u]Nev[/name_u] as is ‘[name_m]NEVille[/name_m]’ with a short ‘e’. I’m from the UK so the ‘neev’ pronunciation is seen as a girls name ([name_f]Niamh[/name_f]/[name_f]Neve[/name_f]). If that’s not an issue where you are and you wouldn’t mind correcting people, go for it!
I would assume it’s pronounced with the short e sound as well. Rhyming with bev. There’s nothing in the name that would make you think/know that it was a long e sound…
Maybe spell it Neav, Neev, [name_f]Neve[/name_f] to ensure proper pronunciation.
I agree with this (and also I’ve never heard of [name_u]Nev[/name_u] Schulman). I like the sound of NEEV, and though I did initially think of the girls’ name [name_f]Niamh[/name_f], as an American I think NEEV it could totally work for a boy. However, I think getting the Neev pronunciation from [name_u]Nev[/name_u] would be a challenge–I would probably choose a different spelling.
[name_f]Neve[/name_f]–rhymes with [name_m]Steve[/name_m]?
Or Niv (like, as you say in your op, a shortened version of Yaniv?)
[name_m]Even[/name_m] Neev or Neeve?
If I were you I might start a poll here to see which spelling would get you the pronunciation you’re after. Or the “Starbuck’s test”–giving the name NEEV when you order and seeing how the barista spells it as a starting point…
