Using Your Maiden Name

Hello fellow Mom’s-to-be!

My husband and I are having trouble coming up with boys names. Our surname is the very generic [name]Wood[/name]. If our baby is a girl, we have decided on [name]Juliette[/name] [name]Brooke[/name] as her name. [name]Brooke[/name] is a family middle name on my side, and we both fell in love with the name [name]Juliette[/name].

If our baby is a boy, we both like [name]Charlie[/name], [name]Anderson[/name], [name]Finley[/name] & [name]Harrison[/name], but don’t [name]LOVE[/name] any of them. We don’t really want something too common, given how common our last name is. The middle name would be [name]William[/name], as that’s a family middle name on my husbands side. It might just be my crazy hormones, but is Pemberton (my maiden name) too unusual for a first name?

Any other suggestions are welcome!

[name]Juliette[/name] [name]Brooke[/name] is very nice. I think Pemberton is too much for a first name, maiden names should be reserved for middles imo. [name]William[/name] Pemberton [name]Wood[/name] sounds amazing though and a way for both of you to have your family names. Otherwise do you like any of these:
[name]Austin[/name]
[name]Blake[/name]
[name]Anthony[/name]
[name]Adrian[/name]
[name]Julian[/name]
[name]Elliot[/name]
[name]Brody[/name]
[name]Nicholas[/name]
[name]Graham[/name]
[name]Isaac[/name]
[name]Maxwell[/name]
[name]Morgan[/name]
[name]Tyler[/name]
[name]Connor[/name]
[name]Rowan[/name]
[name]Gavin[/name]
[name]Flynn[/name]
[name]Bennett[/name]

All I think work with either Pemberton or [name]William[/name] as a middle name.

Thanks jessiea! A lot of those names would be vetoed due to associations/friends/family, but we haven’t considered [name]Morgan[/name] or [name]Elliot[/name]! I will add those to the list.

I think Pemberton is fine, at least in [name]America[/name]. Giving children their family’s British-sounding surnames is a time honored tradition here. I think the worst thing that will happen is that some people might find you a bit hoity toity. They might also assume you’ve got a comfortable bank account? Depends on where you live.

Pemberton [name]Charles[/name] [name]Wood[/name] is quite handsome.

Pemberton is way too clunky for a first name, IMHO, though it makes for a very distinguished last name. Which begs the question: if you’re attached to your maiden name, why not hyphenate?

I’ve come across a few people who have used their maiden name as their child’s name. The example that first comes to mind is my friend was going to be named Sanvick if she was a boy which is her mom’s maiden name

Agree with pp that [name]William[/name] Pemberton [name]Wood[/name] is awesome. And I love the alliterative [name]William[/name] [name]Wood[/name]. Pemberton, in my opinion, is a mouthful, but of course he could have a nickname like Pem or [name]Bertie[/name] or Pembie … that’s all I can think of.

I agree with pp that Pemberton would be best in the middle.

Pemberton is unwieldy as a first name. It’d be great as a middle name though. [name]William[/name] Pemberton [name]Wood[/name]?

[name]Glad[/name] you like [name]Morgan[/name] and [name]Elliot[/name]. Have you considered 2 middle names? [name]Morgan[/name] [name]William[/name] Pemberton [name]Wood[/name]? - that doesn’t really work with [name]Elliot[/name] - too many syllables! But 1 and 2 syllable names could work (particularly 1 syllable names)? Using my sons name as example (!) [name]Vale[/name] [name]William[/name] Pemberton [name]Wood[/name], other 1 syllable names you may like: [name]Kyle[/name], [name]Joel[/name], [name]Sean[/name]/[name]Shaun[/name], [name]Seth[/name], [name]Reid[/name], [name]Carl[/name], [name]Scott[/name], [name]Dane[/name], [name]Brett[/name], [name]Lee[/name], [name]Craig[/name], [name]Heath[/name], [name]Hugh[/name], [name]Miles[/name]… um that’s about all I can think of…!

My name is my mother’s maiden name so it has great meaning to me, but it is only one syl. I have a couple cousins that have my name in the mn spot. [name]How[/name] about Pemberton nn [name]Penn[/name]? I agree it may be better as a mn spot. As a pp mentioned _____ Pemberton [name]William[/name] [name]Wood[/name] is handsome. I like the suggestions of Seth, Reid, Heath, Hugh and Miles. have you considered Ezra?

I agree about Pemberton being the middle name. If your conserned about [name]William[/name] being a family name and can’t be used as a first name, I also like the suggestion of ______ Pemberton William Wood.

Here’s some names that are around the same population as [name]Juliette[/name] and that sound good with [name]Juliette[/name] [name]Brooke[/name] (Beautiful name by the way).

[name]Denzel[/name]

[name]Just[/name] please [name]DO[/name] NOT do [name]Romeo[/name]

[name]Penn[/name]! Didn’t even think about that one. [name]Love[/name] this suggestion!

He will probably opt to be called his middle name if you choose Pemberton as a first. It is a bit difficult. I think [name]William[/name] is very common, so I wouldn’t use it if you are looking for something a little less heard of. I do like [name]Harrison[/name] though. Here are a few other suggestions:
[name]Emerson[/name]
[name]Abraham[/name]
[name]Oliver[/name]
[name]Patrick[/name]
[name]James[/name]
[name]Lyndon[/name]
[name]Oscar[/name]
[name]Quincy[/name]
[name]Thomas[/name]
[name]Cooper[/name]
[name]Ulysses[/name]
[name]Jackson[/name]

I think Pemberton doesn’t work well for a first name. While you could get some cute nicknames from it there will still be times when people will call him by his full name and it just doesn’t sound like a first name to me. I like the two middle name idea if you really want to include both Pemberton and [name]William[/name] without using [name]William[/name] for a first name.

I like [name]Charles[/name] Pemberton [name]Wood[/name]. But I also really like [name]Harrison[/name] and [name]Anderson[/name] (with nickname [name]Andy[/name]). I have a friend whose grandson is named [name]Anderson[/name] [name]Robert[/name], which I think is cute for a little boy, but also ‘grown up sounding’ when he becomes an adult.

Pemberton [name]Wood[/name] sounds like a forest in a place called Pemberton. I think this one is better in the middle spot.

I also like [name]William[/name] Pemberton [name]Wood[/name]. You could use the nn [name]Liam[/name] or just [name]Will[/name]

I think it would work as a middle quite well. As a first, I think it would just be a tad too much.
