[name_f]My[/name_f] first associations or thoughts:
[name_u]Val[/name_u] - this has always made me think of an old man for some reason? It doesn’t really seem like kind of name when I think about it, but that’s immediately where my brain first goes when I hear it, lol
[name_f]Vaila[/name_f] - I don’t have an association with this one, I just immediately thought “oh! That’s pretty!” (I assume it’s pronounced “vay-luh”?)
[name_u]Valen[/name_u] - I follow a girl on Instagram whose name is [name_u]Valen[/name_u], so I always think of her! She’s really sweet, so it’s a good association
[name_f]Vala[/name_f] - this immediately reminds me of the name [name_f]Vada[/name_f], but nothing else beyond that
[name_u]Valo[/name_u] - makes me think of “malo” immediately, which is Spanish for “bad”, but that’s not a common association, I’m sure
[name_f]Valma[/name_f] - makes me think of the name [name_f]Velma[/name_f], which of course reminds me of Scooby Doo!
Valmai - I don’t have any associations with this one, but it is cool! [name_m]Just[/name_m] looking it up quickly, the meaning of “mayflower” or “like may” is so sweet!!
Val — it’s alright. I prefer it as an occasional nickname, such as for Valentina. Vaila — a longtime favorite of mine! Love the meaning and the connections with Scotland. Valen — again, alright; I prefer it for a boy. Vala — it reminds me of Gala, and I instinctively pronounce the same way (vaw-la); it would be a sweet nn. Valo — my instinctive pronunciation is vaw-lo; I prefer it for a boy as well Valma — hmm. Reminds me of Velma, which I’m also a bit iffy on. Valmai — it’s alright; don’t have any strong opinions on it either way.
This collection reminds me of the Russian/Ukrainian nickname for [name_f]Valentina[/name_f], [name_f]Valya[/name_f]. I know someone who goes by [name_f]Vala[/name_f] (but with two L’s) and people initially are confused but catch on just fine.
