Valentine

What do you think of [name]Valentine[/name] for a girl? I like it pronounced [name]VAL[/name]-en-tine (just like the holiday). I know it can also be a boys name, but I never really cared for it much on a boy.

[name]Do[/name] you prefer [name]Valentine[/name] on a boy or a girl?

There’s also the French pronunciation which sounds more like vah-len-TEEN, but I prefer the English one.

Not really a fan of the name but prefer it for a boy. There is the girls name [name]Valentina[/name]. I think I actually prefer the French pronunciation, becuse it’s less acossiated with the holiday.

It is okay but not my style. [name]Just[/name] be sure you like the nn [name]Val[/name] because I think she would be called that a lot.

I prefer [name]Valentine[/name] on a boy and [name]Valentina[/name] on a girl.
I say it with the -teen ending which is also the pronunciation in parts of eastern europe.

[name]Just[/name] a note, though I like the name, I’m not sure how usable it is as a first name on a boy in the US…I do have a friend with the name [name]Valentine[/name], but he’s ended up using his middle name since he moved here in high school, I know all names have teasing potential, but his experience was brutal at first.

I don’t mind [name]Val[/name], but I’d try to avoid it. I can insist on [name]Valentine[/name] when she’s younger, from my experience that works very well. If she wants to go by [name]Val[/name] later that would be fine, but I’d probably call her [name]Vallie[/name] a bit so that might become her nickname.

I agree that it has a high teasing potential on a boy. I’ve never liked it on a boy, it’s very girly to me.

I love [name]Valentine[/name]! It has special meaning to us – we met on [name]Valentine[/name]'s [name]Day[/name] – so we’ve considered it for both a boy and a girl in the middle spot. In the first spot, I do very much prefer [name]Valentine[/name] or [name]Valentina[/name] on a girl, though. (I like [name]Valentin[/name] in the first spot for a boy. It seems a bit more masculine.)

I love Valentine! It’s a classic name despite the holiday. (Though I prefer the ‘teen’ pronunciation to separate it a bit from the holiday.) And I love it’s literary connection to The Count of Monte Cristo. As for nn if you don’t like Val (which I don’t) you might consider Lenna?

I love [name]Valentine[/name] on either gender. It’s gorgeous.

I like it for both sexes, although I have a slight preference for [name]Valentine[/name] on a boy.

I prefer [name]Valentine[/name] on a boy and [name]Valentina[/name] on a girl. I also would pronounce it as [name]Val[/name]-an-teen. But it’s still a lovely name.

[name]Do[/name] you like the nickname [name]Vally[/name] for [name]Valentine[/name]?

I love it! I would use [name]Valentine[/name] for a boy(-teen ending) and [name]Valentina[/name] for a girl(-teena ending). Since I know somebody with [name]Valentine[/name] as a last name, I much prefer it for a boy. Plus I just love girl names ending in a vowel.
