Valentino? What do you guys think?

It’s a new name I have just come across… I have always had a secret love for [name]Valentine[/name]. But #1 I could never have the nerve to name my son [name]Valentine[/name] (ONLY) because of the teasing he would get and #2 I’m due in [name]June[/name] anyways. [name]Valentino[/name] is starting to grow on me because of it’s closeness to [name]Valentine[/name] without the teasing potential…thinking of asking [name]Theo[/name] about putting it on the list.

The only problem I have with it though is the ending ‘[name]Tino[/name]’. It’s the reason I haven’t considered it before. I have always preferred the softer sounding ‘tine’ ending on [name]Valentine[/name].

Plus I can’t think of any nicknames. Obviously I don’t want to use [name]Tino[/name], and [name]Val[/name] or [name]Valley[/name] sounds too feminine.

Also, does it still spring thoughts of February even though it isn’t [name]Valentine[/name]? That’s important to me because he will (hopefully) be born in [name]June[/name] and it could be a pain to constantly be asked “Was he born around [name]Valentine[/name]'s [name]Day[/name]?”

Grr… confused

Thoughts?

I love it! While I am reminded of [name]Valentine[/name]'s day with [name]Valentino[/name], it still wouldn’t make me think he was born around that time. It’s only a vague association. Also, it’s a name I think everyone will know how to pronounce. If you were to go with [name]Valentine[/name], most people would say [name]Val[/name]-en-tie-n instead of [name]Val[/name]-en-tee-n. Heck, where I live, [name]Valentine[/name]'s [name]Day[/name] is usually said “ValenTIME’s [name]Day[/name].” Wth? Anyway, Vee might be a cute nn. And [name]Allen[/name] might be one that isn’t as obvious.

It makes me think of the fashion designer. I think there’s a fashion designer with that name anyway. People wear it to the Oscars and stuff.

I think of the fashion house and it’s designer. He makes beautiful dresses and coats and jewellery and other pretty things. I’d love to meet a little [name]Valentino[/name]. And I think it’s cheesier to name a child [name]Valentino[/name]/[name]Valentine[/name]/[name]Valentina[/name] if they’re born around 14th February actually.

I’m all for a little [name]Valentino[/name]! And I for one think the nn [name]Val[/name] is quite sturdy and handsome. If you’re still looking for alternatives, I would urge you to consider [name]Valen[/name], [name]Valencio[/name], Valent, [name]Viggo[/name], [name]Valerian[/name], [name]Vander[/name], or [name]Vaughn[/name]. \

If you need some inspiration in going for the name [name]Valentine[/name] nn [name]Val[/name], take a look at this stylish mama who used the name: http://www.theglow.com/jenne-lombardo/?i#1

You can use [name]Valentin[/name] which is a popular name in eastern europe. Besides that it excludes the designer association (at least for me it does.)

Thanks for the feedback guys! It really helps!

For nicknames I like: Vee, [name]Valen[/name] (this one is my fav), [name]Viggo[/name] (a big stretch though). Thanks!

This makes me want to use [name]Valentine[/name] even more…  But I’m still afraid of the teasing a male [name]Valentine[/name] would get…although I’m sure there are worse names…sigh

Lol that includes me. I prefer the [name]Val[/name]-en-tyne pronunciation. [name]Val[/name]-en-teen sounds odd to my ears…it the reason I have trouble getting into [name]Valentino[/name]'s [name]Val[/name]-en-teen-no pronunciation…

I like [name]Valentino[/name]! I’d use [name]Val[/name] as a nickname. It can be used for girls but there are guys who use it too, like [name]Val[/name] Kilmer.

I love [name]Valentin[/name]/[name]Valentine[/name] (not so much as a first, but definitely a middle)/[name]Valentino[/name]! It’s got a lot of meaning for us because it’s the day DH and I met (and he later proposed on), but I don’t think it’s strange at all to use it for a non-[name]Valentine[/name]'s [name]Day[/name] baby. In fact, I agree with [name]Ottilie[/name] that it’s kind of cheesy to use it for a V-[name]Day[/name] baby. Think of it this way: it’s perfectly acceptable to name a baby [name]Patrick[/name] even if he’s not born on St. [name]Patrick[/name]'s [name]Day[/name], so why not use [name]Valentino[/name] for a baby not born on St. [name]Valentine[/name]'s [name]Day[/name]?

That is true!

Hmm…
[name]Valentino[/name] is a gorgeous name, he’s handsome, European and fresh. [name]Valentino[/name] is a great Italian name however I do associate [name]Valentino[/name] with valentine’s day he’s a ‘[name]Valentine[/name]’ variant. However for me even though [name]Valentino[/name] is associated with [name]Valentine[/name]'s day. The name is also Italian and rich in history and I don’t think people would necessarily bring up the association. [name]Valentino[/name] is great, I don’t think you really need a nickname for [name]Valentino[/name]. But I actually like [name]Valley[/name] it seems very nature inspired and cool.

this would have been my suggestion as well. I love [name]Valentin[/name] ([name]Val[/name]-EN-teen). the added e and -tien prn always makes it feel more feminine to me.

I’m not a fan of [name]Valentine[/name] or [name]Valentino[/name]. I prefer [name]Vincent[/name].

I would not name a boy [name]Valentine[/name] and prn it “valenteen” that is the French feminine prn of the name, [name]Valentine[/name] is actually a feminine name ([name]Valentin[/name] is the masculine version) but for some reason in English speaking countries it is considered masculine. If you’re going to use it I strongly suggest you prn it like the holiday.

I do like [name]Valentino[/name] but you might be want to consider it’s strong association to the fashion house but I think it’s a good one.

there is a user with a son named [name]Jesse[/name] [name]Valentino[/name]; I love his name and she’s mentioned it’s gotten nothing but positive reactions. You could message her at handle @jesse.

[name]Valentino[/name] is excellent: fresh, handsome, vibrant, and interesting.

I love it!
but what’s wrong with the nickname [name]Tino[/name]? I think it’s great as well!

[name]Valentino[/name] is my favourite boys name, I think the nickname [name]Lenny[/name]/[name]Leni[/name] sounds cool.
Also, if you go for [name]Valentine[/name] you could use the nickname [name]Tyne[/name].

I love [name]Valentino[/name]! It’s one of my guilty pleasures (more because I’m not Italian than for any other reason). It has that exotic European flair that makes it special. I do think of the designer even though I’m not into fashion and don’t wear the brand. But I don’t think that’s a problem- I agree, the clothes are gorgeous!
