I’m looking for forms of [name]Rachel[/name]. Not just mispellings, please: no Rachaels or Rachyls.
[name]Just[/name] variations, as in how [name]Katherine[/name] has [name]Katia[/name], [name]Trine[/name], [name]Reina[/name], [name]Kathleen[/name], [name]Kay[/name], [name]Ekaterina[/name]… etc.
I know there’s not as many for [name]Rachel[/name]. This is what I have so far:
[name]Ruchel[/name] - don’t really want to use [name]Ruchel[/name].
[name]Raquel[/name]
[name]Raquela[/name]
[name]Rae[/name] - A traditional dimunitive and one I like especially as a middle name but my DH hates it and thinks it sounds trashy.
[name]Rahel[/name]
[name]Rahela[/name]
Leikela
I don’t know that any could be described as stylish, but are there any you like? Aside from “Raych” (don’t like, sorry) are there other nicknames you’re used to?
I went to school with a [name]Rachelle[/name] (ruh-shell) and I know a [name]Rochelle[/name] also.
You could always use [name]Shell[/name] or [name]Shelly[/name] as a nn
kitkat: [name]Rakel[/name] is interesting, thanks. Ráichéal… is it pronounced the same as [name]Rachel[/name] or differently?
kala_way: [name]Shelly[/name] is maybe too '60s for me, but I honestly hadn’t thought about it before so maybe I should give it some thought. And to be honest, I like [name]Raquel[/name] which is also rather '60s, though in a more bombshell way to me. Thanks.
I love the Polish [name]Rachela[/name] (rah-[name]SHELL[/name]-ah, I believe) and Racheline (not sure where it comes from, or if it’s even legitimate, but I’ve had a long crush on Racheline! I say it [name]Rachel[/name]-een, but it could be rah-[name]SHELL[/name]-een or something, similar to [name]Marcheline[/name]/[name]Marceline[/name]?).
I love the simple [name]Rachel[/name], though, that’s what’s on my top 5. I have heard [name]Rae[/name] as a nn for [name]Rachel[/name], too, which I like. There’s always [name]Elle[/name]/[name]Ellie[/name]/[name]Ella[/name], too. [name]Ella[/name] would work particularly well for [name]Rachela[/name].
[name]Rachelle[/name] and [name]Raquel[/name] are nice, I just prefer [name]Rachel[/name], [name]Rachela[/name], and Racheline.
ETA: [name]Ah[/name], sorry, just saw your husband’s thoughts on [name]Rae[/name]. I think it’s adorable, if I have a [name]Rachel[/name] she’ll likely get [name]Rae[/name] and Rache occasionally, but it’s too cowgirl for me, personally, haha. I don’t think it would be bad occasionally, though, like an off-handed nn when you’re in a hurry. Although if [name]Rachel[/name]'s just too much to say, haha–most nns are as short as [name]Rachel[/name].
Well my name is [name]Raychel[/name], and my nickname is [name]Ray[/name]. It’s an unusual spelling variation and I have only encountered a few others with the same name. The only problem I have is that many people want to pronounce my name as [name]Rachelle[/name].
I agree that “Rach” is horrible. The old nickname for [name]Rachel[/name] was [name]Shelly[/name] but I think it sounds antiquated and I think that [name]Ellie[/name] does sound better. That being said one of the things my mother liked about the name [name]Rachel[/name] was that it did not readily lend itself to nicknames.
ashthedreamer: Racheline is interesting! Thank you. I like many -line/-ine names but never heard Racheline before.
If we used [name]Rae[/name] it would be as a middle name. I thought it was perfect for that.
East93: Good stuff, but nothing really jumped out at me. I’m sort of gathering the impressions of other people right now, not that I’m easily led or anything, lol.
redupright: I like [name]Ray[/name]/[name]Rae[/name] as a nickname. But you’re right, [name]Ellie[/name] would be way ahead of [name]Shelly[/name]/[name]Chelli[/name] for me.
