[name_m]Just[/name_m] looking for everyone’s opinions here…
I’m looking to honour my grandmother, [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f], but I sometimes have trouble pairing her name with other first names I love for fear that it may be too traditional (read: old). I was thinking of shortening it and using [name_u]Lorren[/name_u] and no, I’m not a fan of [name_u]Lorrie[/name_u].
I was thinking [name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_u]Lorren[/name_u] Elliette, [name_f]Lena[/name_f] Elliette [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f] or Elliette [name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f].
Which do you prefer and please share other suggestions!
My grandmother was named [name_f]LaRaine[/name_f] - a variation of [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f]. (Most likely made up, crazy to think about that happening in the 1920’s.) I plan to use [name_u]Laine[/name_u] and my brother is using [name_f]Raine[/name_f] to honor her.
I think [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f] sounds and looks so much better than [name_u]Lorren[/name_u]. [name_f]Lena[/name_f] Elliette [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f] and Ellliette [name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f] are bothe lovely.
[name_f]Raine[/name_f] itself is another way to honor a [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f]. Elliette [name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_f]Raine[/name_f] or [name_f]Lena[/name_f] Elliette [name_f]Raine[/name_f].
Is Elliette pronounced like [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]-ETT? Or like [name_u]Elliott[/name_u]?
Either way, I think [name_f]Lena[/name_f] Elliette [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f] flows best. What about the spelling [name_u]Loren[/name_u]? And what about just [name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f]? I think that sounds really sweet (and not “old”).
Other ideas that could (sometimes with a stretch) be derived from [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f]:
[name_u]Rain[/name_u]/[name_f]Raina[/name_f]
[name_f]Lora[/name_f]
[name_u]Rory[/name_u]
[name_f]Lorna[/name_f]
Elliette would be pronounced like [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] (DH’s grandmother’s maiden name) and I will most likely keep 2 middles to stay in line with my other 2 children’s names. I considered [name_f]Raine[/name_f], but it makes me want to use [name_f]Jane[/name_f] instead… I’ve always strongly considered [name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] since my mother’s name and my own are both derivatives. Thanks for the great feedback so far!
