[name]Hi[/name]! My husband and I are expecting a daughter. We want to name her after his foster mother, an amazing woman named [name]Ruby[/name] who practically raised him in place of his parents. The problem is: he doesn’t much care for the name of itself. Are there any other variations out there, or perhaps names that mean [name]Ruby[/name]? Thank you all and God bless.
Would you consider using [name]Ruby[/name] as a middle name?
We have strongly considered it, yes; that will probably be the path we choose if we cannot find a suitable way to honor her up front. We just would really love having the name out front for the world to see It’s what she deserves.
I think [name]Ruby[/name] is so sweet, and a variation that comes to mind is [name]Rubina[/name].
Other names that are associated with red:
[name]Scarlett[/name]
[name]Rose[/name]
[name]Rosalie[/name]
[name]Rory[/name] (which could even be a nickname for [name]Aurora[/name])
[name]Rowan[/name]
[name]Ruth[/name] or [name]Ruthie[/name] have [name]Ruby[/name]'s Roo sound, and mean “compassionate friend,” and it sounds like your husband’s [name]Ruby[/name] was a compassionate woman.
You could also give her R.B. intials, such as [name]Rosalie[/name] [name]Blythe[/name] or [name]Rosalie[/name] [name]Belle[/name].
Another idea, could be to use a name that has a meaning related to this special [name]Ruby[/name], such as:
[name]Gemma[/name]: it means “precious stone,” which applies to [name]Ruby[/name] the stone and [name]Ruby[/name] the actual, precious woman.
[name]Annabelle[/name]: it means “loving”
[name]Esme[/name]: beloved
Good luck!
I will add [name]Garnet[/name] into the mix.
I actually love [name]Rubina[/name], as well as [name]Rosalie[/name]! I also love the idea of having R.B. initials; that is something I never would have thought of! Thank you!
You’re welcome! I think it’s wonderful how you’ll be honoring [name]Ruby[/name], and I’m glad you found some ideas that may work for you.
Best wishes to you!
I think I may have heard the name Rubiana once, pro (Roo-bee-ah-na).
I love Rubiana, too! Thank you!
