Vela

Any thoughts? It’s pronounced vay-luh. Also, nicknames are very important to me, so any ideas? [name_f]My[/name_f] only one is V!

I prefer [name_u]Vida[/name_u] or other -ela names like [name_f]Selah[/name_f], [name_f]Della[/name_f] or [name_f]Nella[/name_f], but [name_f]Vela[/name_f] isn’t bad. Other than V you could also call her Vel or Vellie.

I agree with emmievis. It’s not my favourite but it’s not bad.

It’s pretty and straightforward, I like it. [name_f]My[/name_f] only criticism is that it reminds me of the Veela (banshee like characters) in Harry [name_m]Potter[/name_m]. I would pronounce it VEE-la intuitively.

How about [name_u]Vale[/name_u] for a naturey nickname?

I’m not a fan, sorry. [name_f]Vela[/name_f] means candle and sail in my language. [name_f]Viv[/name_f], [name_f]Ela[/name_f] or [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] would work as nicknames.

Love [name_f]Viv[/name_f]!

Sounds a bit like villa or fella to me but I think it’s mostly that I’m unfamiliar with this name. Also reminds me a bit of [name_f]Veda[/name_f] which I don’t like.

Vela is nice. [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] could be a nickname or [name_u]Vale[/name_u]

It reminds me of candles, which gives nice imagery of warm, welcoming lights. I do worry that it may get pronounced many different ways (vee-lah, veh-lah, and vay-lah), which could be frustrating. I personally prefer [name_f]Vera[/name_f] or [name_u]Vale[/name_u].

[name_f]Vela[/name_f] is actually a last name in Spanish and means candle in Spanish. I like the idea of the pronunciation but not the actual name, sorry. Maybe a different spelling would look better. For example: Vaylah, Vayla. This reminds me of Kayla. I recently came across Leonella and [name_f]Luella[/name_f] which I think are beautiful and have a similar sound.

I love [name_f]Vela[/name_f]. For a nickname, possibly [name_f]Ela[/name_f]?

I find it beautiful. It reminds me of [name_f]Vada[/name_f] and [name_f]Vera[/name_f]. You could also spell it Vayla or [name_f]Vaila[/name_f] (which is the name of a Scottish island). I don’t think it has many obviously nicknames, other than Vay or Vaylie.

It’s nice enough and it is usable— I’ll refrain from adding in more about the meanings in other languages as other users have done that. I prefer [name_f]Veda[/name_f], [name_f]Vera[/name_f], [name_f]Viva[/name_f], [name_f]Vita[/name_f], or [name_u]Vida[/name_u] myself, but that’s just a personal taste thing. For nicknames, basically anything suggested above

I do quite like it! It reminds me a lot of [name_f]Veda[/name_f], which I love.

As a nickname, maybe Ve (Vay)?

Vela immediately reminds me of the Spanish word for candle, but it’s pretty enough, just know the association is there.

What about [name_f]Vanna[/name_f] for another V name?
