Verena?

What are your thoughts on [name_f]Verena[/name_f]? My husband and I are really loving [name_f]Verena[/name_f] at the moment and wanted to get some outside opinions.

It meets all of our current criteria: pronounced the same in English and [name_m]German[/name_m], familiar but not common, only one spelling, and multiple nickname possibilities.

We like the nicknames [name_f]Vera[/name_f] or [name_f]Reyna[/name_f].

Thanks!

I really like it!

I’m sorry, I really dislike [name_f]Verena[/name_f]. I would just go with [name_f]Vera[/name_f] or [name_f]Reyna[/name_f], [name_f]Verena[/name_f] sounds very unattractive to me, but if you love it and it sounds beautiful to your [name_m]German[/name_m] culture than go for it.

I think [name_f]Verena[/name_f] is lovely, and I can’t really see what could be unappealing about it. It reminds me of [name_f]Serena[/name_f], so the pronunciation might be somewhat ambiguous between Ve-[name_u]RAY[/name_u]-na and Ve-[name_f]REE[/name_f]-na, at least in the U.S. It also reminds me of [name_f]Ravenna[/name_f].

I like [name_f]Vera[/name_f] better (and I’m a three syllable namer), but [name_f]Verena[/name_f] sounds good too.
Could [name_f]Valerie[/name_f] be a good sugestion too? I mean, it’s more current but not so common, and it’s spelled the same in English and [name_m]German[/name_m].

I like the meaning more than the pronunciation, which to me is a bit bland. But I love that it’s multicultural for you and if it works, go for it!

[name_f]Verena[/name_f] has been on my shortlist for years! I think it’s so beautiful and I loved the character of [name_f]Verena[/name_f] Tarrant in The Bostonians.

I really like [name_f]Verena[/name_f]. It’s a lovely name with a rich history. However, it is likely to be pronounced differently in English than in [name_m]German[/name_m].

Thanks all! [name_f]Glad[/name_f] to hear that some/most like the name. I figured there will always be some people who don’t like a name, but I think that’s true of every name.

I figured it’s pronounced a bit different in English than in [name_m]German[/name_m], but still close enough right?

I love it.
[name_f]Verena[/name_f] is beautiful and unique!

Veria is on my list (and never gets any love :))

[name_m]How[/name_m] do you pronounce it? I’m saying it “ver [name_u]REN[/name_u] ah” – I do think it looks lovely.

[name_f]Verena[/name_f] has really grown on me! I also love that there is a saint association.

I pronounce it vuh-ree-nuh.

I think [name_f]Verena[/name_f] is lovely pronounced the [name_m]German[/name_m] way (Ve-[name_u]Ray[/name_u]-na). Not much of a fan of the [name_f]Verena[/name_f] rhyming with [name_f]Serena[/name_f] pronunciation. [name_f]Vera[/name_f] is a great nickname(also as a firstname).

[name_f]Verena[/name_f] sounds a tad harsh. [name_f]Vera[/name_f] is unique with a pleasant meaning and sound.
