So while I am not religious, I go to a college that is associated with a certain religion and every year, we do a candlelight service at the local church involving students and faculty and especially the college’s music department. It is HUGE in the community. Over a thousand people generally come to each showing (there are 6 each year) and people come from all over. I got tickets for the first time this year as a senior at the college and was blown away by the talent and community in the room. Since the event, which is called Vespers, is so iconic to the college I started considering it as a name. I’ve seen it on here a lot but never was really sure about it. I love the personal connection for me and also the meaning of the name, “[name]Evening[/name] star”.
So WDYT, is it usable? [name]Do[/name] you prefer it in as a FN or in the middle? (I think I lean slightly toward the MN space for this one…) Girl or boy?
[name]Stella[/name] is my favorite girls’ name at the moment, but I wonder if [name]Stella[/name] [name]Vesper[/name] is too redundant ([name]Star[/name], [name]Evening[/name] star), so maybe [name]Flora[/name] [name]Vesper[/name] instead. On a boy I think it could be a handsome middle with either of my top two, [name]August[/name] [name]Vesper[/name] - maybe a little lispy? - or [name]Henry[/name] [name]Vesper[/name]. Any thoughts?
I love [name]Vesper[/name], it’s soft and light, like a whisper, but also with a sultry allure. I think it’s fantastic, I love V first names ([name]Verena[/name], [name]Vienna[/name], [name]Vionnet[/name], [name]Violet[/name], [name]Virginia[/name], [name]Victoire[/name] etc etc etc!!!) However, doesn’t change your favorite first name to match a new middle, it’s the first name that matters the most! That being said, I would love to meet a [name]Vesper[/name]!!!
(Potential downside, [name]Vespa[/name]'s and Spaceballs!)
I think it’s great in the middle. Its a little hissy & reminds me of the word whisper. Something feels dark/gothy about it but it sounds good with your examples. Not too out there especially in the middle
I like the meaning of [name]Vesper[/name] but not the sound of it. It reminds me of the word “viper” more than “whisper” and for someone with ophidiophobia like me (a fear of snakes), this isn’t appealing. I think it’s better as a quirky middle name.
I really like [name]Vesper[/name]. I think it would make such great fn,
I do think that [name]Stella[/name] [name]Vesper[/name] is redundant. And maybe I’d look for a second name that doesn’t have the same meaning and sound repetition. I like [name]Vesper[/name] [name]Amelie[/name].
[name]Vesper[/name] Lynd is a [name]Bond[/name] girl from the film/novel Casino [name]Royale[/name]. Her name is supposed to be a play on “[name]West[/name] [name]Berlin[/name].” That was my first association.
I think that [name]Vesper[/name] is completely usable. I might slightly prefer it as a middle name, but it’s fine as either. I think it would work better on a girl because the [name]James[/name] [name]Bond[/name] character is fairly well-known and something about the sound reminds me of established girls’ names ([name]Esther[/name], [name]Hester[/name], [name]Harper[/name]).
This made me think Whisper could make a nice back-up for [name]Vesper[/name], if you’re outgoing.
I love [name]Vesper[/name]. I don’t think it started off in the world having religious ties, as in “evening vespers” came after “evening star,” so that could help. I think it works better for a girl, but [name]Stella[/name] [name]Vesper[/name] just isn’t right, as pretty as it sounds.
God, I absolutely love this name, but I don’t know that I’d ever be brave enough to use it It’s so dark and elegant, but I’m not sure. It seems like most people here like it (which is a relief), but I imagine that most people in my day-to-day life would think it too off-the-wall. If I get at least two people I’m close to who like it, then I’ll def use it if given the opportunity.
This is so weird, [name]Stella[/name] and [name]Vesper[/name] were my top two for the longest. I ended up giving up on [name]Stella[/name] because I just felt it was too overdone. [name]Vesper[/name] I dropped reluctantly because my husband is not super adventurous with the names, ha!
I don’t really like [name]Stella[/name] [name]Vesper[/name] together for some reason. [name]Just[/name] doesn’t work. But they are both beautiful. I love [name]Vesper[/name] a lot, as a first or a middle.
Maybe I’m the odd one out here, but I can’t stop thinking about [name]Princess[/name] [name]Vespa[/name] from Spaceballs. I just can’t take it seriously as a name, I guess.
I think [name]Vesper[/name] would be a beautiful first name for a little girl.
I agree with others that in how ever beautiful [name]Stella[/name] [name]Vesper[/name] sounds (and really it does), something seems off about it. I also don’t like the redundancy of the “[name]Star[/name], evening star” meaning.
What about:
[name]Vesper[/name] [name]Lux[/name], [name]Lucille[/name], [name]Lucia[/name], (the meaning would be: evening star, light)
[name]Vesper[/name] [name]Rose[/name] ([name]One[/name] can never go wrong with [name]Rose[/name]. the meaning would be: evening star, rose)
[name]Vesper[/name] [name]Sophia[/name] (meaning: evening star, wisdom)
[name]Vesper[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] (meaning: evening star, blessed or she who brings happiness)
In choosing middle names for [name]Vesper[/name], don’t have it start with an m. [name]Don[/name]'t consider [name]Vesper[/name] if your last name starts with an m either.
I’ve never cared at all for the sound of the word, so I’m not a fan of using it as a name. I went to a college where there were [name]Vesper[/name] meetings (all well and good), except I always cringed at hearing the word. (It’s one of just a handful of words that creep me out like that. I’m not sure why.)
