It’s hard for me to talk baby names with friends outside NB, because they go all into OMGGGGG!!! Are you preggo?!?!?! mode. So, without a lot of feedback, it’s hard for me to take a step back and see how a name might be perceived/received out there by the average person.
[name_u]Vesper[/name_u].
This one’s been at the top of the “guilty pleasures” list for me for a while. It’s got this lovely, wispy, slightly sultry sound. I totally dig the imagery of starlight and evening prayers. But since I haven’t really heard this name out in nature (Casino [name_m]Royale[/name_m]'s [name_m]Bond[/name_m] girl excluded), I’ve always thought it was just a bit too off the radar to actually use for a first name.
So you can imagine my shock when my husband (who’s about the pickiest girl namer ever, and abhors 99% of the names I toss out), declared he liked [name_u]Vesper[/name_u] after I threw it out there on a whim.
So berries, I need your thoughts. [name_u]Vesper[/name_u] might get some love on NB (or maybe not, you’ll all hate it, and I’ll have been deluding myself this entire time ;)), but how do you think non-berries would respond to [name_u]Vesper[/name_u]? Is it quirky in a cool, avant garde sort of way? Or is this a name better left to works of fiction?
Edit: If you met a Vesper, what might you imagine her siblings to be called?
I just recently (within the last 2 weeks) have come to love [name_u]Vesper[/name_u]. It is quirky in a good way, I think. One of my acquaintances on IG has a daughter [name_u]Vesper[/name_u]. She is so cute and spunky, her name works so well! Go for it, I say.
I came up with the combo [name_u]Vesper[/name_u] [name_f]Eulalie[/name_f]. I like a melodic kind of name with it.
@justskinandbone - Ooh! It’s good to know there’s at least one little [name_u]Vesper[/name_u] floating around out there. I imagine knowing one has made [name_u]Vesper[/name_u] seem less strange and allowed you to fall in love with it more easily.
@boyandgirl - that’s interesting, because that’s usually my style too… [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Eugenie[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Clara[/name_f]. But for some reason [name_u]Vesper[/name_u]'s just caught my eye.
It’s not my style, but I can see the appeal. I think it’s usable but most not-name people people will think it’s strange and likely confuse it with [name_f]Vespa[/name_f].
It is quirky for sure and probably slightly “out there” for me, but I could see it on a little boy rather than a little girl. I don’t know that I’ve ever heard the name before so I’m sure it’s not just a boy name (or maybe not a boy name at all!) it sounds like a boy name to me.
