Vexahlia

What do you guys think of the name Vexahlia we already have a little girl with an unusual first name but we gave her two normal middle names to break it down. For Vexahlia were thinking [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u] or [name_f]Edie[/name_f] [name_f]Fae[/name_f].
Honest opinions please but no abuse please.

It sounds like a land in a fantasy novel. First syllable “vex” is not the best.

A bit over the top? Maybe go with a not very common but heard of name and give her that as a middle? And just call her Vexahlia or Vexie and let her decide later?

I like the idea of it, but I think the “vex” in the front, which means “to annoy,” might be questionable. It’s likely that she’d be called Vex or Vexie sometimes, so it’s a good idea to think about whether or not that name meaning would work for your family.

I’m not a big fan of it, and it is a mouthful especially paired with the double mn you have picked.

I agree with the others. Any name with Vex in the beginning is a no go!

Agree that Vex- isn’t ideal, though I like the overall sound and feel of it. Having trouble getting from there to the middle name options without getting tongue-tied though…might work better for the first middle name to start with a consonant sound.

Ceryle yes I like the overall sound of it and iv gone through the whole alphabet to possibly replace that v but it just doesn’t flow the same. It’s a tradition for me to have 2 mn and ideally don’t want to break that. Id prefer to use [name_f]Edie[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f]/[name_f]Fae[/name_f] (no sure spelling yet) or 2 shorter names as I know [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] after is far to much.

I think something like Vexahlia [name_f]Faye[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] could work — much easier to say… [name_f]Edie[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f]/[name_f]Fae[/name_f] is sweet though — if you love it, go for it.

Nope. Sorry. Something about it seems quite dark - I think it’s the ‘vex’ part. Also, it’s a bit of a tongue twister.

I’m not sure about the “vex” part, and it does sound a bit like a character in a fantasy novel, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. If you do decide to use it, I like it best with [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u]. It’s a bit more formal. [name_f]Edie[/name_f] [name_f]Fae[/name_f] sounds like a different style altogether to me.

Too much. [name_m]How[/name_m] about just Xahlia? (Zahlia?) Still incredibly unique but without the harsh sound in the beginning. [name_u]Love[/name_u] both [name_f]Edie[/name_f] and [name_f]Fae[/name_f] by the way.

I prefer either of the middle names you selected as two full name options…
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u]
Or
[name_f]Edie[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f]

I agree with the other Berries, Vexahlia makes me think of ‘to vex or vexing’ which is something that would bother me. If it does not bother you, I’d pair it with [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u] so there is always a more traditional name to fall back on.

Sounds like Vexahlia:
[name_f]Vasilia[/name_f]
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f]

Sorry, I don’t like it either. I don’t like the Vex part and also reminds me of hex. I really like the suggestion of Zahlia. Still different and has a much more softer feel/sound.

I see from another post that you’re leaning toward having Vexahlia in the middle spot, which I think is a good solution.
I also like the suggestion of Xahlia, which could still work to celebrate the character you & your husband love but avoids the ‘vex’ issue and is easy to explain/spell (“It’s Xahlia, like Tahlia with an X. I’m named after a character my parents love”)
I thought I’d list some other names that you might like, in case you decide Tova Vexahlia isn’t for you.
These are a mix of 1. unusual (and sometimes elaborate) but with a nice meaning or interesting story and 2. unusual , possibly without much history, but easy to spell and without the problematic ‘vex’ associations:

Vita
Lavinia (Vinnie? Lia?)
Vasilia (Via? Lia? Vava?)
Viatrix (Vivi? Via? Trixie?)
Valkyrie (Val? Kyrie? Kyra?)
Minerva (Min? Mina?)
Valora (Val? Lora? Vala?)

Lux
Xanthia (Xan? Thia? Anthia? Annie?)
Polyxena (Poly? Xena?)
Onyx (Nyx? Nixie? - Nix is a bit of a negative word, but Nyx and nixies are pretty badass namesakes, and the onyx stone has good associations)
Xiamara (Xia? Mara? Xara
Elixane (Ellie/Eli? Xana? Lixa?)
Calixta/Callixta (Callie? Lixie/Lixa? Cix?)
Calytrix (Callie? Trixie?)

Yvaine (Yvie? Yva?)
Yseult (Yssie?)

Zenovia (Zena? Via? Zia?)
Azenor (Nora? Zena?)
Azura (Zuzu?)
Lucrezia (Lia? Lucy? Lulu? Luca? Zia? Luzia?)
Zelda
Zephyra/Zephyr/Zepherine (Zephie? Zena/Zina?)
Ziva

Bellona
Innana
Eluned
Anwen
Morwenna
Rhoswen

Niniane
Nimue
Arwen
Lucasta

Good luck with the decision!

I saw this post on Appellation Mountain! I concur with the advice offered there. Vexahlia would be a difficult name for a child to bear, and I can’t recommend it.

I just looked Vex’ahlia up. I’m not familiar with D&D, so these might be silly suggestions, but I think [name_f]Elaina[/name_f], [name_f]Velora[/name_f] and [name_f]Zahra[/name_f] could work as sister names for Winry.

I love your reply thankyou
I love the thought and effort you’ve taken those names are completely my taste if you have any more names up those mystical sleeves of yours I’m am more than happy to have a nosey.
I love Valora but hubby doesn’t like Val as nn and I can’t have any loras as my sister is Laura.
Although I’m partial to Nora as in Leonora/Leonore…hubby not keen.
Love Onyx love Nixie not Nyx (like the spelling more than sound.
Love Valkyrie .
Adora Xiamore as are second favourite girl name is Xia pronounced Xy (like xylophone) Ah.
Loving Lixie/Lixa but not keen on Elixina.
I love Yvaine hubby can’t detach from the Vein bit lol.
How is Nimue pronounced? I have watched Merlin I just can’t remember if it’s Nim-U Nim-Wee Nim-Way ? Love Nim as nn

I’m glad they were generally on the right track
I’ve generally heard [name_f]Nimue[/name_f] pronounced [name_m]NIM[/name_m]-oo-ay/ [name_m]NIM[/name_m]-oo-way, but I think it’s one of those names that has a variety of common pronunciations.

I think [name_f]Xia[/name_f] would make a great sister name for Winry!

I’m happy to offer more suggestions, though they’re getting further away from the sounds of Vexahlia, and I’m not sure that what I think of as ‘similar’ names are the same things you do (if that makes sense). These remind me either of Winry (close to a familiar name, but with a bit of a twist), or seem to me to have the sort of darkly fantastical/powerful feel I get from Vexahlia.
I’ve included a few historical people, goddesses, mythological figures etc that probably won’t be on nameberry. Probably best to look these ones up if you’re not familiar with them - they’re not necessarily people/deities everyone would find admirable (and they may not necessarily be appropriate, depending on your heritage, etc). A quick google should find them.
