Victor: Classy and interesting or hello, grandpa?

I find VERY grandpa-ish and the voice in my head also seems to add a Russian/Romanian accent to it eg [name_m]Viktor[/name_m], [name_m]Ivor[/name_m] etc. Saying that - you’re never going to have everyone loving a name - if you love it you just go with it

I actually like [name_m]Victor[/name_m]. It has a great meaning and is well know, yet uncommon. I recently read a book where the main male lead character was an assasin named [name_m]Victor[/name_m]. It made the name seem cool and fresh imo. It’s totally usable.

I love [name_m]Victor[/name_m]. I think it is totally awesome and ready for a come back. And it sounds amazing with [name_f]Petra[/name_f]. I don’t think it sounds grandfather-ish at all.

To me, the name always sounded a bit evil. Lots of villains named [name_m]Victor[/name_m].
[name_f]Petra[/name_f] and [name_m]Victor[/name_m] do sound great together. They sound like international spies!
[name_m]Vincent[/name_m] is classic and handsome.

Thanks for all the opinions, everyone! I showed my husband this thread and he got all excited about all the positive responses and immediately started looking for middle names. Now he’s convinced we’re going to name our son [name_m]Victor[/name_m] [name_u]Constantine[/name_u]. I had to say, slow down, honey, he’s not a supervillain.

I also appreciate the alternatives people suggested. I do like [name_m]Vincent[/name_m], but unfortunately that name has negative connotations in my family…long story. I’m encouraged by the people who said they knew kids named [name_m]Victor[/name_m] already. It will take some more time for it to grow on me completely, but it’s definitely moved up several slots on my own name list. Although me and the DH may need to compromise on a middle name. (Me: what about [name_m]Joseph[/name_m]? Him: But [name_u]Constantine[/name_u] is so cool!) So we’re working on that.

[name_m]Victor[/name_m] and [name_u]Constantine[/name_u] are both on my name shortlist (although not together). I do, however, [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] them together. I think it creates a very strong name and flows well. We really likes [name_m]Marcellus[/name_m] as a MN with [name_m]Victor[/name_m].

In my part of [name_u]America[/name_u], [name_m]Victor[/name_m] is a very common name to hear on Latino teenagers. So I don’t think Grandpa or Classy, I just think dated.

[name_m]Victor[/name_m] is classy and interesting!
