My husband and I love playing video games, and although we haven’t had much time to play since the arrival of little [name]Susannah[/name], I don’t think it will stop us (casually now).
So I thought I might comprise a list of some of the names I’ve encountered whilst playing, well the more interesting ones anyway. [name]Feel[/name] free to add though, there’s plenty out there.
I play WoW and got into the lore a while ago… there are some interesting but possibly usable names! (I’m going off the top of my head so if I think of more I’ll add them!)
I don’t really play video games. I would have to consult with my husband for names, lol! BUT… I know a little girl about 4 now whose dad is a video game creator. He named her after a character in his favorite game (I don’t remember the name. I just remember it’s Japaneze). Her name is Aeris, which I think is actually very beautiful. I don’t know the name of the character either, because her mom told me this is the “Americanized” version, so I don’t know if it’s different in the game or not.
I play Skyrim and have played all the previous games in the series - there’s a HUGE wealth of names with all different origins, but here are some of the more distinctive ones I remember.
Aeris was the name used in the American release of Final [name]Fantasy[/name] 7. It was the result of a mistranslation of her Japanese (it’s an s not a z by the way) name. It was later fixed with the proper translation of [name]Aerith[/name].
And since I’ve brought up Final [name]Fantasy[/name] how about some names from that? (They tend to be a bit crazy)
I really love this! I’ve been playing a lot of Final [name]Fantasy[/name], Oblivion, and Dragon Age lately. Before that it was the Assassin [name]Creed[/name] games and the Devil [name]May[/name] Cry games. Here’s the ones I like from your list:
A shout to fellow Skyrim and Oblivion fans! And Fallout! (Anything [name]Bethesda[/name] has gotta be good :).)
I played Fallout 3 today. Here are some interesting ones:
[name]Amata[/name]
Eulogy
[name]Silver[/name]
[name]Carolina[/name]
[name]Crimson[/name]
[name]Clover[/name]
[name]Ishmael[/name]
Brailee
[name]Kimba[/name]
[name]Nova[/name]
Moriarty (surname)
Trinnie
Snowflake
Zip
Charon
Ahzrukhal
[name]Bessie[/name]
[name]Winthrop[/name]
With each of our children, DH has suggested [name]Link[/name] and [name]Zelda[/name] during baby name talks. I play the games too, but still can’t say yes. There are definitely some interesting names here though.
I don’t play video games, but I’ve seen several of these names when searching through birth announcements for my blog/book. It’s good to know where the inspiration came from.
[name]Don[/name]'t forget [name]Lara[/name]! Although the name isn’t extremely interesting I still like it nonetheless. Some other girls off the top of my head are: [name]Eleanor[/name] (Bioshock 2), [name]Tara[/name] (Crysis 2), Malon ([name]Legend[/name] of [name]Zelda[/name]) and [name]Tifa[/name] (Final [name]Fantasy[/name]). I love the name Chell…
Oh, my gosh, totally bookmarking this thread! I love videogame names. My favorites are [name]Zelda[/name], [name]Link[/name], and [name]Yuna[/name], kind of boring compared to the others really. I haven’t played a lot of videogames lately due to a lack of any sort of modern gaming system, but I know for sure that Final [name]Fantasy[/name] is pretty much the ultimate for names
Okay, I will add the additions to my list so those who don’t want to go through all the pages can look at the first post for inspiration. Also…keep the names coming!
[name]Zelda[/name] is an actual family name for me and I love it, but my DH finds the video game connection too strong. He says as a gamer his gamer friends will never let him live down naming a girl [name]Zelda[/name].
I say he ought to let me have it for the cultural connection: not like I’m asking for [name]Cloud[/name] Strife, right?!
[name]Claire[/name] was a character in Final [name]Fantasy[/name]. I would consider using [name]Claire[/name]. And [name]Alice[/name] from American [name]McGee[/name]'s [name]Alice[/name] was pretty cool.
Oh, and just a friendly suggestion, maybe you could separate the names in your first post by game title. It might help things look more neat and organized instead of just a wall of names. :]
