Vie as a Name? Nickname-name?

Wondering if Vie would be too short for a girl? Full names like [name_f]Livie[/name_f] or [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] do not please me. Any thoughts?

Not too short! But I did originally read it to myself like “VYE” when I initially read the post (Rhyming with lie or tie), I’m not sure if others would make that same assumptions

This was my thought too! I thought, Vie, like a nickname for Violet, then, Vee, like Vivie/Sylvie?

I love a short name, so I don’t think it’s too short. I’d probably go with Vee or Vivie instead, but Vie works too

I think it’s sweet but not too babyish

I know someone named [name_f]Vi[/name_f] (Pronounced the way you like!!) and it works for them!!

Unfortunately I’m going to dissent and say I’m not a fan. The spelling Vie is analogous to the word vie which is pronounced to rhyme with eye, so I would definitely pronounce this name like that. I also think it’s just too short and insubstantial to stand on its own. It’s literally just the letter “V”. I think it can be a suitable nickname for any name that starts with a V or even has a V in it honestly. I have known a couple people with the name [name_f]Vi[/name_f], but they are Vietnamese so it fits in with their culture.

Hmm…I like [name_f]Vi[/name_f] short for [name_f]Violet[/name_f], and I’ve known a few people go by V or Vee when their name starts with a v. But I’m not sure about Vie. It either reads like the [name_u]French[/name_u] ‘vie’ meaning life, which is a bit wordy and literal for me, or vie as in ‘vie for attention’.

I like Vie. I see it more as a nickname for [name_f]Vienna[/name_f] or [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. But if you love it by itself definitely stick with it

I know a little girl with the middle name Vie, inspired by the [name_u]French[/name_u] word for “life”. I think it works!

Not too short, but I personally prefer it as a nickname for Vivian/Vivienne, [name_f]Vienna[/name_f], [name_f]Viola[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f] or any other name with V. I automatically pronounce it in [name_u]French[/name_u], but people could also say “vye”, which makes it a bit confusing.

I like it and I would read it as vee-eh. I would assume the bearer to be [name_m]Dutch[/name_m]. It is a nice name and reminds me of [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] Hepburn, cafes, chocolates, and rivers.
