Vienna?

What do you guys think of the girl name [name]Vienna[/name]? [name]Just[/name] want some general opinions

I love the city [name]Vienna[/name], one of my favourite musicians is [name]Vienna[/name] Teng (not her real name) and because of these two things I like it. [name]Vienna[/name] is one of those cities I get that people could want to name their child after, it’s absolutely beautiful, so much culture and history, and it’s so fresh and nice there. And [name]Vienna[/name] Teng makes the most gorgous music…

Capital of [name]Austria[/name]. It’s a place name, so not a human name in my opinion.

The first thing I thought of was that ice-cream dessert, Viennetta, which isn’t really a bad thing to think of when you hear a name. I think it sounds quite pretty. It’s unusual, but still sounds quite familiar, and I think [name]Vivie[/name] or [name]Via[/name] would be really sweet nicknames if you were to use one. It’s nicer than [name]Sienna[/name] in my opinion, but also reminds me of [name]Valentina[/name] and [name]Verona[/name], which I prefer.

Edited to add: I don’t think it being a place name rules it out as a name, there are plenty of place names used as baby names. Off the top of my head: Paris, Aurora, Ireland, Harlow, Adelaide.

My first though is the sausages. My second is that trashy girl from “The [name]Bachelor[/name]”.

When I hear someone with a place name, I think it’s a little tacky UNLESS the place holds a special meaning for one of the parents… i.e. they honeymooned there, one of them travelled there and was greatly inspired/rested, etc. However, I once asked a woman how she came up with the name [name]Sterling[/name] for her daughter, and was told she was conceived there (it’s a small town in [name]Scotland[/name], I think). That was a bit more info than I wanted to hear!! lol!

[name]Paris[/name], [name]Carolina[/name], [name]Adelaide[/name], [name]Victoria[/name] etc were names BEFORE they were places.

The first thing that came to mind for me was [name]Vienna[/name] Sausage

I like seeing place names used as a first name when their is a personal significance with that place. It isn’t the end of the world if not. It has been used as a name and is quite similar to other first names. It has a nice sound and is easy to spell and say etc. The sausage association isn’t so great.

Personally, I don’t love it. I much prefer [name]Sienna[/name] and [name]Sierra[/name] (even if a little dated).

Fair point, but I still don’t think that place name automatically means unsuitable for use on a child. In the everyday world, most people aren’t going to know whether [name]Carolina[/name]-the-place or [name]Carolina[/name]-the-name came first. Plus, I think if you use a place that’s not very well known as a name, such as [name]Vienna[/name], it’s not quite as tacky. In my opinion, part of what makes [name]Paris[/name] and [name]London[/name] so tacky as names is that they’re big cities that invoke that sense of “luxury”, similar to names like [name]Chanel[/name] and [name]Armani[/name]. Ultimately it’s a matter of opinion, of course, but I think there definitely are place names that can work as non-tacky baby names and I would say [name]Vienna[/name] is one of them.

[name]Vienna[/name] is a big city. It’s the capital of [name]Austria[/name]. O_o I thought everyone knew capital cities.

I have to agree with renrose. [name]Vienna[/name] is a very well known city. It’s not the same as using the name of some small, unheard of town.

Apparently the mother of Francis of Paola was called Vienna, and [name]Francis[/name] of [name]Paola[/name] lived from 1416 – 1507. So if his mam was called that, [name]Vienna[/name] must have been in use at least since the 1400s.

I think it’s much better than a lot of American place names, like [name]Montana[/name] or [name]Georgia[/name]. I don’t really like [name]London[/name] or [name]Paris[/name], either.
[name]Vienna[/name] is definitely one of the better ones, along with [name]Geneva[/name] and [name]India[/name]. It kind of evokes an image of the beautiful snow-covered Alps.

[name]Vienna[/name] is actually called Wien in [name]Austria[/name], [name]Vienna[/name] is the english version. I think that’s a reason I like it too. I think [name]Vienna[/name] might be a legit italian name.

By big and well-known I just meant “famous” in the same way that [name]Paris[/name] and [name]London[/name] are, as I mentioned. I did an A-Level in Geography so I definitely know capital cities  [name]Vienna[/name] is no doubt an important city, but it’s not seen in the same way that places like [name]Paris[/name], [name]Milan[/name] etc are. But as amberdaydream said, it’s been around as a name for a long time, I think that makes it even more acceptable.

That’s my boyfriend’s niece’s name.

I’m not sure I like [name]Vienna[/name] as a name. The fact there are two vowels right next to each other and a -na/-nna ending make it just a tad too frilly for me. Not that I’m much into geographic names, really. The fact it has some history to it though makes it not too bad. I can see why others would like it; it’s just not for me.

I secretly love it. I know a mom with a [name]Vienna[/name] and a [name]Berlin[/name].

I love [name]Vienna[/name] as a name. It sounds so soft and flowy to the ear. It’s actually one of my favorites!
