Hello! I named my baby Vincent Milo.
First, I liked Milo since May 2025 and it was going to be his first name… all of a sudden i heard people calling their pets Milo. I didn’t mind and I kept the name. I went to a shop to get wooden letters for him and the shop assistant said: “Milo like my dog”. I began to feel weird about the name. I kept thinking if my son will punish me for calling him like a dog. Then, my doctor told me my son had to be born the following week. I had just a week to consider his name in a serious way. I thought of Vincent but somehow it sounds w weird and odd for me like without emotion. found out the prince of Denmark is called Vincent too I felt the name is nice and elegant. And it is hard for me to choose now. Should I call him Vincent or Milo?
more info: his father was supposed to choose his second name but he didnt do it. When he was born i said: He is VINCENT MILO. my family kept on criticising my name choices… thats why it was so hard for me to decide. I liked other names like: Valentin and Benjamin

How rude are people giving unsolicited feedback on your baby name? Unless it’s asked for, zip it!
I think Milo is a very cool name - and yes it’s also a “dog’s name” but so are Rufus, Otis, Bella, Luna and a bunch of other human names. (My dogs’ names are Jeffrey & Pomeline.)
I personally love Vincent too - it’s very handsome, and has that royal association.
I would myself keep it as Vincent Milo and use Milo as the nickname but Milo Vincent is an equally good choice - and if your heart is still with Milo, I would change it asap to Milo Vincent. It’s a wonderful name and not one I can imagine any child resenting. Also with that combination of playful / spunky and more serious, he can swap their use if he really wants to.
Some of your options are:
Vincent Milo nn Milo (ie use middle as name)
Milo Vincent (swap)
Miles Vincent nn Milo (if Milo really is a problem, I don’t think it is but up to you to judge)
I prefer Vincent to Valentin - and Milo Valentin(e) is a little too stylised for me and Valentin Milo doesn’t flow as well imo as Vincent Milo. I also prefer Vince to Val as a nickname.
You could use Milo Benjamin or Benjamin Milo but I prefer Milo Vincent and Vincent Milo as pairings (for style and flow - too many repeat letters and sounds).
Hope this helps!

Don’t let others take away your love for a name!
I don’t find [name_m]Milo[/name_m] to be an overwhelming “dog name,” and really I think most names can be associated with both dogs & humans. If it makes you feel any better, I’ve met a couple Milo’s (one child, one young adult), and neither of them seemed to have an issue with their name.
Personally, I love [name_m]Milo[/name_m] as a name. It’s got a soft & familiar sound, isn’t prone to mispronunciation, & just feels like such an approachable name! However, [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] is lovely as well.
I would say keep his name as [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] [name_m]Milo[/name_m], that way you can use [name_m]Milo[/name_m] as a nickname but keep [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] as well (the best of both worlds!). If you’ve really got your heart stuck on [name_m]Milo[/name_m], I agree with the previous poster in saying that you should flip the combo to [name_m]Milo[/name_m] [name_m]Vincent[/name_m].
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helped! Best of luck!

thank you for taking your time to write about my baby’s name.
I never thought of using [name_m]Milo[/name_m] as a nickname… and that seems to me a great idea and opportunity to use the second name without pressure. Big thanks!
Thank you for your support
the idea of using [name_m]Milo[/name_m] as a nickname makes me feel better and happier. When people ask whats my baby name i replied “Vincent” but using nicknames like: [name_m]Vinnie[/name_m] and [name_m]Milo[/name_m] is a wonderful idea! I feel I can use [name_m]Milo[/name_m] whenever I want to
I think one day he will make the real choice

I love the idea of keeping [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] and still using [name_m]Milo[/name_m] as a nickname, as long as you’re happy with keeping [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] in the first name spot.
[name_m]Vincent[/name_m] feels sophisticated, timeless and handsome, a perfect choice honestly. [name_m]Milo[/name_m] is very sweet and cute, and I prefer him in the middle or as a nickname so to speak.
I call my son by his name, his nickname and his middle name. I love all three and he respomds to all three haha.

[name_m]Vincent[/name_m] [name_m]Milo[/name_m] is a beautiful name. I’m so sorry they’ve been rude. I think you should stick to your guns. Perhaps you could let them know that it’s unnegotiable, and that as family they have a responsibility to be more respectful.
If you prefer [name_m]Milo[/name_m], I’d say go for it. Who cares about dogs if it’s special to you

[name_m]Vincent[/name_m] [name_m]Milo[/name_m] is a beautiful name, you really landed somewhere special. [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] has that quiet strength and elegance, while [name_m]Milo[/name_m] adds warmth and softness. Together they balance each other so well.
I wouldn’t worry about the “pet name” association at all, [name_m]Milo[/name_m] is widely used for boys, and most people will think of it as a human name first. Honestly, you don’t have to choose, [name_m]Milo[/name_m] works perfectly as a nickname if you love it, and [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] gives him a more classic, formal option as he grows.

[name_m]Milo[/name_m] is super cute and I wouldn’t have said it’s ‘a dog name’ any more than most other names (it’s not like you named him Fido or Rex…). I know a little [name_m]Milo[/name_m] too so it just seems totally normal and fine and sweet to me.
Maybe try him as [name_m]Vinnie[/name_m], [name_m]Milo[/name_m], whatever variants you like and see what sticks the most. Fwiw I love [name_m]Valentin[/name_m] but I’d err on the side of caution and not overcomplicate it for yourself - just choose between the two you’ve already got.

First of all [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] [name_m]Milo[/name_m] is a lovely name, as is [name_m]Milo[/name_m] [name_m]Vincent[/name_m]. I love the name [name_m]Milo[/name_m] personally and I also think when names are used for dogs it’s because they are popular and very wearable - good qualities! It personally wouldn’t put me off a name I love - [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], for example
I know of a toddler [name_m]Miles[/name_m] who goes by [name_m]Milo[/name_m], so I think that was another good suggestion above. If it were me I would go with the first and middle combo I liked best but call him [name_m]Milo[/name_m] regardless.

amazing to know your son responds to all of the three names you like! That makes me feel better since now he is six months old and I read in some book that babies start to recognise their name. Anyhow.. I also thought of the nickname “Vito” if he finally decides everyone to call him [name_m]Vincent[/name_m]. thank you for your lovely words
yes that is what i said when I was pregnant … then I started doubting and ended up falling him [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] first and middle name Milo… I think family or people should not give bad comments when a mother chooses a name… it is very important to support mothers,..
[name_m]The[/name_m] most popular names I hear for female dogs are [name_f]Bella[/name_f] and [name_f]Luna[/name_f], and these are still top names. Don’t worry about [name_m]Milo[/name_m]. [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] [name_m]Milo[/name_m] is very handsome.

[name_m]Milo[/name_m] was my Bengal cat – and I went ahead and changed my name to [name_m]Milo[/name_m]. So far no one has ever said anything, even my kids who loved my cat.
[name_m]Vincent[/name_m] [name_m]Milo[/name_m] is a terrific name and so is [name_m]Milo[/name_m] [name_m]Vincent[/name_m]. [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] is a name you never hear anymore (at least in the States) and definitely it should be used.

How did you change your name? legally? or just like that…?
I am trying to make a decision between [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] and [name_m]Milo[/name_m].
[name_m]Milo[/name_m] has not many nicknames: maybe Milu, [name_m]Mil[/name_m], [name_f]Ilo[/name_f]?
I like nicknames for [name_m]Vincent[/name_m]: [name_m]Vito[/name_m], [name_m]Vinnie[/name_m], Ini
Need to make up my mind somehow…
[name_m]Milo[/name_m] is my pen name. It’s legally so, as long as I don’t defraud anyone with it.
I don’t think [name_m]Milo[/name_m] needs any nicknames.
[name_m]Vincenzo[/name_m] traditionally has [name_m]Vinny[/name_m], Cenzo, and [name_m]Enzo[/name_m].
