Vinnie?

What do you all think of the name [name]Vinnie[/name]? Is it too vintage to be usable or is it just right? [name]Do[/name] you like it as a nn or can it stand on its own? Are there any other full name options besides [name]Lavinia[/name]? What do you think of it as a middle name? It is a family name and I’m trying to decide if it’s worth putting on my list.

Thank you all!

All I can imagine with [name]Vinnie[/name] is [name]Joe[/name] Pesci in “My Cousin [name]Vinny[/name]”. The name just sounds like a boy’s nickname and I feel it’s been done to death in television and movies to portray mafioso Italian Americans.

Of my kids, [name]Vinny[/name] is the only one almost exclusively called by her nickname as she loves it.

I think it could stand alone, although my [name]Vinny[/name] is a [name]Lavinia[/name]. If you don’t like [name]Lavinia[/name], I think [name]Vivienne[/name] or [name]Haven[/name] would work.

Zinny is sweet too, for [name]Zinnia[/name].

Thanks for your reply! It’s great to hear an opinion from someone who uses the nn for their child. Wow…I love [name]Vivienne[/name] nn [name]Vinnie[/name]! I really like [name]Vivienne[/name] and I never thought of using [name]Vinnie[/name] as a nn for it! [name]Zinnia[/name] nn Zinny is fun too!

@fatherknowsbest: Thanks for the perspective! I wouldn’t have thought of those connotations.

I think [name]Vivienne[/name] is a gorgeous name that it would work for and isn’t to trendy or dated. Also, if for some reason she grows to hate “vinnie” there are other possibilities.
I could almost see it working for [name]Virginia[/name] as well.

As mom to a [name]Vincent[/name] called [name]Vinny[/name], I’ll tell you we love the name [name]Vinny[/name] and his name gets a great response. I think [name]Lavinia[/name] nn [name]Vinnie[/name] is cute, as is [name]Vivienne[/name] nn [name]Vinnie[/name]. [name]Zinnia[/name] is a great choice as well. I agree with previous posters that a fuller name is best. You might get some mafia jokes–we certainly do–but then again, my [name]Vinny[/name] is part Italian.

I think [name]Lavender[/name] could work.

I had a friend in high school named [name]Vanessa[/name] and she went by [name]Vinnie[/name]. It was a spunky and fun nn that really suited her personality.

I didn’t think of [name]Vivienne[/name]- that’s probably your best bet! When I read this I just had to respond. My brother and sister in law were close to naming their daughter Vinley. Actually, one of their reasons against it was they didn’t want her to be nicknamed “[name]Vinnie[/name].” But if it’s the nickname you’re going for, then this would be great for you. And she’d have the more complete Vinley to fall back on if she tires of [name]Vinnie[/name]. They did make up the name though, just so you’re aware (in case that makes or breaks it for you).
