I currently have a daughter, called [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], and we’re expecting a baby boy (due in Late [name_u]March[/name_u] - [name_u]Early[/name_u] [name_f]April[/name_f]). We love vintage names, and we were pretty sure we had decided on the name [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], as I simple adore the name. Then a friend pointed out that they were both names heavily associated with the [name_m]Roosevelt[/name_m] Family. She actually thought we were trying to do that, and thanks to her observations we are now reserved on using the name.
So, any name suggestions similar to [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], that go well with [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]? We still may decide to use the name [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], but for now we want a wider selection so that the names aren’t so associated with each other.
Nice names! But they do make me think [name_m]Roosevelt[/name_m] right away. I guess you just have to decide if that would bother you. I know of siblings named [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] and the parents claim they didn’t even think about the [name_u]Kennedy[/name_u] connection but it doesn’t bother them.
What about?
[name_m]Frederick[/name_m]
[name_m]Thaddeus[/name_m]
[name_m]Edwin[/name_m]
[name_m]Tobias[/name_m]
[name_m]Matthias[/name_m]
I just think [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] very much rhyme which is why I wouldn’t put them together.
When I read the title for some reason I directly thought of [name_m]Lewis[/name_m].

[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] are also share the same ending.
Suggestions:
[name_m]Abraham[/name_m]
[name_m]Vincent[/name_m]
[name_m]Jeremiah[/name_m], [name_m]Jeremy[/name_m]
[name_m]Elijah[/name_m]
[name_m]Ansel[/name_m]
[name_m]Robert[/name_m]
[name_m]Rupert[/name_m]
[name_m]Phillip[/name_m]
[name_m]Jonathan[/name_m]
[name_u]Lawrence[/name_u]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] don’t initially strike me as “too [name_m]Roosevelt[/name_m],” only because [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] has so many other associations for me. However, both ending in an “or/ore” sound would be the most off-putting feature for me, though not much by any means (they’re both lovely, individually and together for the most part). One way to get around this is by calling your [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] the impossibly cute nickname of [name_u]Theo[/name_u]! [name_m]Even[/name_m] [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] would work, too.
My first thought as a brother to [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] would be [name_m]Vincent[/name_m]. They both have that same vintage, underused quality.
Here are some others that, to me, have the same vibe:
[name_m]Hugh[/name_m]
[name_u]James[/name_u]
[name_m]Edmund[/name_m]
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m]
[name_m]Anthony[/name_m]
[name_m]Joseph[/name_m]
[name_m]Benedict[/name_m]
[name_m]George[/name_m]
[name_m]Felix[/name_m]
[name_u]Jude[/name_u]
[name_m]Louis[/name_m]
[name_m]Mark[/name_m]
[name_m]Philip[/name_m]
[name_m]Maxwell[/name_m]
[name_m]Patrick[/name_m]
[name_m]Rupert[/name_m]
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m]
[name_m]Stuart[/name_m]
[name_m]Thomas[/name_m]
[name_m]Arthur[/name_m]
[name_m]Archie[/name_m]
[name_m]David[/name_m]
[name_m]Henry[/name_m]
Oh no! My first reaction was how adorable, and usually associations aren’t a problem for me, but I think your friend is right, the [name_m]Roosevelt[/name_m] connection feels too strong Thats a bummer. But if you can’t bare to part with [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], don’t worry about it, they’re your kids and you won’t be constantly reminded of the [name_m]Roosevelt[/name_m]'s when you say their names.
I too had those names on my list and was asked about the Roosavelts anytime I said the names together. Such a bummer because they do work so well together.
Here were the other boy names we considered:
[name_m]Henry[/name_m]
[name_u]Reid[/name_u]
[name_m]Otis[/name_m]
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m]
[name_m]George[/name_m]
[name_u]Gus[/name_u]
[name_m]Ezra[/name_m]
[name_m]Phinnaeus[/name_m]
I like [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] as a sibset, but if the [name_m]Roosevelt[/name_m] connection bothers you, maybe move it to the middle? You’ve had lots of good suggestions.
