In our name search so far, the most prevalent theme seems to be vintagey, old-fashioned M names for girls…Yes, I think a lot of them are fairly trendy now? (That’s okay, but we don’t want the next [name]Ava[/name] if it can be avoided.)
Trying to decide which one or two we like best, because they sort of knock each other out as future sister names.
[name]Matilda[/name] nn [name]Tillie[/name], [name]Tilda[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name] nn [name]Maggie[/name], [name]Maisie[/name], [name]Margo[/name]
[name]Margot[/name]
[name]Magnolia[/name] nn [name]Maggie[/name], [name]May[/name]
[name]Mabel[/name] nn [name]May[/name]
Middle Name options:
[name]Irene[/name]
[name]Elise[/name]
[name]Deborah[/name]
[name]Inge[/name]
(family names…the first two I like with almost all the above names. [name]Deborah[/name] seems harder to fit.)
(For reference, other girls names we like are [name]Naomi[/name], [name]Josephine[/name], [name]Winnifred[/name], [name]Anneliese[/name]…)
So, what do you think? Out of all the Ms, which are best? And with which middles? Could you imagine using any two in the same family? (I thought maybe [name]Matilda[/name] with one of the others, because of the T nn.)
[name]Matilda[/name], [name]Margaret[/name], [name]Margot[/name] and [name]Mabel[/name] are getting popular but I wouldn’t call them trendy (eg. let’s face it - there an aquired taste and very removed from trendy names like [name]Madison[/name], [name]Madelyn[/name], [name]Mackenzie[/name], [name]McKinley[/name] etc…). [name]Magnolia[/name] is a nature name so that one may be the only one that I would define as moderately trendy. [name]Magnolia[/name] is still pretty rare as are the others. You just may see these names a lot on Nameberry more than the real world. I think my favourite is [name]Matilda[/name] and personally I wouldn’t have another “M” name for another child (they can be used in the middle spot). [name]Matilda[/name] and [name]Josephine[/name] would make an awesome duo for siblings!
[name]Magnolia[/name] also has the nicknames [name]Nola[/name] and [name]Nollie[/name]. I much prefer them to [name]Maggie[/name] and [name]May[/name]. I like [name]May[/name], but not as a nickname for [name]Magnolia[/name].
I love [name]Tillie[/name] and [name]Tilda[/name], but I do not like [name]Matilda[/name] at all.
My favorite nickname for [name]Margaret[/name] is [name]Meg[/name]. If you like vintage, there is also the possibility of [name]Peg[/name] and [name]Peggy[/name].
So, yes, I think some of them could work well as sisters.
Middles [name]Irene[/name] and [name]Elise[/name] work best.
[name]Matilda[/name], [name]Margot[/name] and [name]Mabel[/name] are my personal favorites. I also love [name]Margaret[/name] for it’s classic history and abundance of nicknames including [name]Greta[/name] and [name]Daisy[/name].
[name]Margaret[/name] and [name]Matilda[/name] are my favorites from your list. [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Elise[/name] and [name]Matilda[/name] [name]Irene[/name] are great combos.
[name]Magnolia[/name] is my personal favourite. [name]Magnolia[/name] [name]Elise[/name], perhaps? That combo could give you [name]Millie[/name] as a nn.
[name]Margaret[/name] [name]Irene[/name] is very pretty. I also like [name]Magnolia[/name] [name]Elise[/name], [name]Margot[/name] [name]Deborah[/name], and [name]Matilda[/name] [name]Elise[/name].
I love [name]Matilda[/name], [name]Margot[/name], and [name]Mabel[/name], although I love all the nicknames for [name]Margaret[/name] too. The only one don’t like is [name]Magnolia[/name], but I read in another thread the nickname suggestions and [name]Maggie[/name] and [name]Nolie[/name] both of make [name]Magnolia[/name] much more like able to me. I also really like [name]Mavis[/name] for a vintage M name.
[name]Matilda[/name] [name]Irene[/name] and [name]Margot[/name] [name]Elise[/name] are my favorite combos.
I’ve had this same conversation. Does choosing one elimamte the rest. I think if you are prepared to use nicknames then they are definitely usable together
My faves from your list are:
[name]Matilda[/name]
[name]Magnolia[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name]
I’m not really a fan of [name]Margot[/name], [name]Mabel[/name].
I agree that [name]Irene[/name] and [name]Elise[/name] go with all of them.
I the [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Inge[/name] is stunning
I think all of them are good, but my favourite is [name]Margot[/name] followed by [name]Mathilda[/name]. [name]Magnolia[/name] is nice as well. Of the middles I like [name]Elise[/name] and [name]Irene[/name].
I love both [name]Magnolia[/name] and [name]Matilda[/name]! [name]Tilly[/name] and [name]May[/name] would be such cute future sisters! [name]Elise[/name] and [name]Irene[/name] go well with both names. My favorite combos would be [name]Matilda[/name] [name]Elise[/name] and [name]Magnolia[/name] [name]Irene[/name]. Also, I wouldn’t call them exactly trendy…they are more “girls names on the rise” I would say. At least on Nameberry! Good luck!
Thanks for all the input! Yes, to those who said they’re all probably more popular on Nameberry than generally, that’s probably more accurate when I say “trendy”! Because isn’t Nameberry a few years ahead of the naming styles? I’m wondering if any of these will turn out to be [name]Ava[/name] in 10 years–so fun and different when you first hear it, and then it really catches on.
Amongst my circle of friends and acquaintances [name]IRL[/name], I have only heard of one little girl named [name]Margot[/name] in the last 5 years, and none of the others.
I think my personal favs at this point are [name]Matilda[/name] [name]Irene[/name], [name]Matilda[/name] [name]Elise[/name], or [name]Magnolia[/name] [name]Irene[/name]. DH is more sold on [name]Magnolia[/name] [name]Irene[/name]. We have Southern connections, though we’re not dyed-in-the-blood Southerners. But I like [name]Matilda[/name] for the [name]German[/name]-ness. I think I’m drawn to [name]Margaret[/name] mostly as a “safer,” more classic alternative in case [name]Matilda[/name] and [name]Magnolia[/name] are too funky…or are about to become a lot more popular? Plus, [name]Margaret[/name] still has the cute nns of [name]Maggie[/name], [name]Maisie[/name] or [name]Margo[/name]…DH has not been excited about [name]Margaret[/name] yet, though.
I like the [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Inge[/name] suggestion! [name]Both[/name] are family names. But [name]Irene[/name] is my mom’s name, and I’m really keen on using it for our first girl. [name]Deborah[/name] is the [name]MIL[/name], who I love and also want to honor, but her name is not as cooperative as a mn!
I adore vintage! Of your M names I like [name]Margaret[/name] and [name]Margot[/name]! I think [name]Maggie[/name] and [name]Margie[/name] are the cutest nn’s too! From your others I love [name]Josephine[/name], [name]Winnifred[/name] & [name]Anneliese[/name]. I think [name]Margaret[/name] and [name]Josephine[/name] would make a perfect sibset. Your mn’s are all cute but I like [name]Elise[/name] the best!
Oooh, how about [name]Maude[/name]? [name]Maude[/name] [name]Irene[/name] or [name]Maude[/name] [name]Elise[/name] would sound lovely. I also adore [name]Margot[/name] [name]Deborah[/name]. Maybe [name]Marguerite[/name], as well?
OH. THIS IS SO MY [name]FORTE[/name].
I love M names. Like, I don’t even know why. I just love M names. And N names, too! [name]Marlowe[/name] is one of my favorite girl names ever.
[name]Margot[/name] [name]Irene[/name] makes me want to cry with its beauty.
