Vintage Name Help

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] berries :wave:t2:

I am neither pregnant, nor trying to conceive. I am a lover of names who finds herself dreaming of the day I can name a little one of my own … hopefully soon! [name_f]My[/name_f] naming styles has evolved significantly over the years. Today, I’d describe my style as vintage with some flare, generally. However, the name [name_m]Henry[/name_m] will always have my heart. I’ve never had issues with girl names until recently.

[name_f]My[/name_f] beloved paternal grandparents both passed away last summer and I would love to honor them in some way. [name_f]My[/name_f] Grandma’s name was [name_f]Frieda[/name_f] [name_u]Louise[/name_u] ([name_u]Free[/name_u]-da) and my Grandpa was [name_u]Jesse[/name_u]. [name_f]My[/name_f] sister has already claimed [name_u]Louise[/name_u] for her dog  and I’m not a fan of [name_f]Frieda[/name_f].

[name_f]My[/name_f] full list also contains:

[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] “[name_f]Birdie[/name_f]”
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f]
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f] (might just be my favorite, but is it too “out there”?)
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f] (Loo-sha)
[name_f]Mae[/name_f]
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f] (not sure I LOVE this name, but it was my paternal great-grandmother’s name and I love the significance)

Thanks so much for your help!

I know plenty of people who do honor initials- maybe another F name could honor [name_f]Frieda[/name_f]? I think [name_f]Frances[/name_f], [name_f]Flora[/name_f], [name_f]Florence[/name_f], or [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] would fit right with on your list! To make it even closer, you could do FL initials- [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] or [name_f]Florence[/name_f] [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] would be super sweet to honor [name_f]Frieda[/name_f] [name_u]Louise[/name_u].

Also, even though your sister claimed [name_u]Louise[/name_u], maybe you could use [name_u]Lou[/name_u], [name_f]Louisa[/name_f], or [name_f]Elouise[/name_f]/Eloise as a middle name? [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_u]Lou[/name_u] or [name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] would be lovely as well.

And by the way, I don’t think [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] is too ‘out there’!

Hi there.

What a great list! I love the name [name_m]Henry[/name_m] too, despite the popularity. I also think that [name_u]Jesse[/name_u] is really handsome.

As for girls, if you don’t like [name_f]Frieda[/name_f] & can’t use [name_u]Louise[/name_u], how about something similar w/the same initials to honor your grandma. [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]? [name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]? [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Luella[/name_f]? You get the idea.

Here are my thoughts on the rest of your list-

Beatrice “[name_f]Birdie[/name_f]”-[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] is so lovely. It’s smart, quiet, kind, vintage, simple, unique & just charming. I don’t mind [name_f]Birdie[/name_f]. It’s not my favorite, but I see the appeal. I like just [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] or the nns [name_f]Bea[/name_f], [name_f]Bess[/name_f] & [name_f]Bette[/name_f].

Josephine-I love [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]. It’s a bit more popular than the rest of your list, but not too terribly over done. It’s so smart, vintage, elegant & a bit glamorous. I’m not personally a huge fan of [name_u]Jo[/name_u]/Joey/Josie, which is why this name isn’t higher on my personal list. I do like the nn [name_f]Posy[/name_f] though.

Winifred-I super love the nn [name_f]Winnie[/name_f], but can’t get into [name_f]Winifred[/name_f]. It just sounds kind of heavy.

Marigold-Nah, it’s not too out there at all! It’s a beautiful flower, but since it has the ‘[name_f]Mari[/name_f]’ part, it seems perfectly ‘name-ish’ too, you know? I know a little five year old [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], & the name seems totally normal & sweet.

Lucia-I like this said ‘Loo-see-uh’, bur don’t find Loo-sha as appealing for some reason. Either way, I think correcting pronunciation often could be a headache.

Mae-It’s sweet & light. Still a bit sassy too, which is fun. I think that [name_f]May[/name_f] looks more complete, & [name_f]Mae[/name_f] more of a nn.

Mabel-I like it a lot, but if you don’t love it I think just [name_f]Mae[/name_f] would still honor [name_f]Mabel[/name_f]. Or [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] nn [name_f]Mae[/name_f]. Or [name_f]Maple[/name_f]! I think [name_f]Maple[/name_f] is adorable.

Hope this helps.

Hi! How about:

To honor [name_u]Louise[/name_u]:
:black_small_square:︎Aloisa
:black_small_square:︎Eloise/Eloisa
:black_small_square:︎Louella/Luella
:black_small_square:︎Louetta

To honor [name_f]Frieda[/name_f]:
:black_small_square:︎Freya (which I’ve seen other people suggest, I second it!)
:black_small_square:︎Freesia (also a [name_m]German[/name_m] name, like [name_f]Frieda[/name_f])

To honor [name_u]Jesse[/name_u]:
:black_small_square:︎Jessamine
:black_small_square:︎Jessica
:black_small_square:︎Jessa

By the way, I met a [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] at a [name_m]Chick[/name_m]-fil-A recently (she was the cashier). It’s a lovely name!

Love [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] (not too out there!) and [name_f]Mabel[/name_f]

Beatrice [name_f]Frederica[/name_f]
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f] [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f]
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f] [name_f]Lois[/name_f]

Thank you all so much! You’ve given me lots to think about.

I hadn’t considered [name_f]Freya[/name_f] before as it wasn’t really “my style,” but your suggestion are making me crush  [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_u]Louise[/name_u] is so sweet.

I’m also loving [name_f]Eloise[/name_f]. Maybe [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] [name_f]Mabel[/name_f]? Or [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] nn [name_f]Mae[/name_f]?

I had actually added [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] to my list as I thought it might honor [name_f]Frieda[/name_f]. It’s still a stretch, though.

I’m so happy to hear that [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], and the rest of my list are so well received.

You all are fantastic. It’s so great to hear and talk names with each of you.
