DH and I have been going over our long list again and I think we’re at the point that we could use some outside input. We like feminine, romantic girl names that have a vintage feel from the Titanic/Downton [name_f]Era[/name_f]. Our two daughter’s names are in our signature as well as mixed in the list. What names fit really well stylistically as well as with our girl’s names? Thanks in advanced.
[name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] was the name of the widow of [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] Astor, so maybe that could be on your list! (it’s also one of my most favorite names!)
Another of my favorites is [name_f]Isobel[/name_f]!!
I agree with pp that [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_f]Isobel[/name_f], and [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] go very well with your daughters’ names (which are gorgeous, by the way!) I also think [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] would be great fits.
More Victorian/Edwardian (maybe turn-of-the-twentieth-century describes your style best?) names:
If you are OK with 2 V-names, I would suggest [name_f]Violet[/name_f]/[name_f]Viola[/name_f]. [name_f]Violet[/name_f] was a name of an attendant who survived the shipwrecks of three ships: Titanic and two similar ones. Such a lucky name.
I also like [name_f]Ruth[/name_f], [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] and [name_f]Mary[/name_f] - all names of Titanic survivals.
[name_f]Cornelia[/name_f]/[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] is my suggestions for a longer name with [name_f]Cora[/name_f] nickname and I really love [name_f]Sybil[/name_f]/[name_f]Sibyl[/name_f].
But that’s just personal preference So if I try to look at them more objectively…
[name_u]Arden[/name_u] - I think this is an absolutely beautiful name! However…I’m not sure why, but I don’t think it quite fits with [name_f]Lilla[/name_f] and [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]. Those two seem very stylish and classy. [name_u]Arden[/name_u], I see more of a name that would fit in with a heroine in a futuristic novel
[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] - I think this is toooooo much Downton!- as in, it’s still too old-ladyish. I can’t see it on a little girl. But hey, just me.
[name_f]Cecily[/name_f] - sweet and cute
[name_f]Cleo[/name_f] - again, doesn’t quite fit…maybe it’s the connection to Ancient [name_u]Egypt[/name_u]? [name_f]Lilla[/name_f] and [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f], as you say, make me think Titannic/Downton…and then randomly [name_u]Egypt[/name_u]. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you see where I’m coming from? They should all flow together
[name_f]Cora[/name_f] - I quite like this combo
[name_f]Edith[/name_f] - also like this
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] - I love this name anyway (had a very sweet great great aunt called [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f])…I think it’s a very classy and timeless name. I would leave the name at [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], but if you like nicknames then it has great potential too
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f] - I think this sounds nice as a combo
[name_f]Florence[/name_f] - I think this flows so well with [name_f]Lilla[/name_f] and [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]! Maybe because the latter is [name_m]French[/name_m], and [name_f]Florence[/name_f] makes you think [name_f]Italy[/name_f]…so all beautiful historical European places
[name_f]Frances[/name_f] - don’t like this name. [name_f]Lilla[/name_f] and [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] sound fresh…this just sounds plonky next to it (no offence to the name itself though!)
[name_f]Francesca[/name_f] - [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t think it fits well enough into the Titannic/Downton style
[name_f]Isobel[/name_f] - I think this would sound nice
[name_f]Lilla[/name_f]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] - Quite a nice combo
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] - I think this sounds really lovely with [name_f]Lilla[/name_f] and [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]! You’ve got the vintage style, along with [name_f]Rosa[/name_f]- ([name_f]Rose[/name_f]) and [name_f]Lilla[/name_f] (like [name_f]Lily[/name_f]), as well as the [name_m]French[/name_m] sounding endings that fits with [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]
[name_f]Sybil[/name_f] - could be OK
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] - too much of a nickname maybe?
[name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]
[name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] - hmmm…not sure. I don’t especially like it
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] - sounds too robust after the flowy-ness of [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]
I love your list. Very classic and beautiful and def of the genre you are looking for. I like them all honestly. I favor [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] as that is my sisters name. Have you considered [name_u]Darcy[/name_u]? That is of that era also.
Front Runners
[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] - too much?
[name_f]Cecily[/name_f]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f] - is this too similar to [name_f]Lilla[/name_f]?
[name_f]Edith[/name_f] - too harsh
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f]
[name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Isobel[/name_f]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] - too close to [name_f]Vivi[/name_f]
Not well received
[name_u]Arden[/name_u]
[name_f]Cleo[/name_f]
[name_f]Frances[/name_f]
[name_f]Francesca[/name_f]
[name_f]Sybil[/name_f]
[name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f]
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f]
Also we love [name_f]Violet[/name_f], but we don’t want to repeat the V. We also love [name_f]Clara[/name_f] but [name_f]Lilla[/name_f]'s middle name is [name_u]Clare[/name_u] so we can’t use it.
[name_f]My[/name_f] great aunt was a stewardess on the Titanic named [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] [name_f]Agnes[/name_f], she went by [name_f]Sissy[/name_f]. I also like [name_f]Sally[/name_f].
