Violet and Willow...WDYT?

I met a little [name]Willow[/name] and a baby [name]Violet[/name] the other day (not sisters, although wouldn’t that just be the cutest?). I’m in love with these names but distraught that they might not be names I can use in a decade or fifteen years from now when I’m ready to think about children attached to these names:

[name]VIOLET[/name]: I love the color/flower, it’s vintage quality and it’s been one of my absolute favorite names since I was thirteen but ever since [name]Jennifer[/name] [name]Garner[/name] used it, it’s shooting higher and higher up the list and currently sits at #101. Where is it going to be in ten years? [name]One[/name] of the things I hate is meeting someone with my name (a surprisingly rare occurrence) and I’d hate for my [name]Violet[/name] to be [name]Violet[/name] C. of her class. I don’t want it to be the next [name]Olivia[/name]! I like [name]Viola[/name] but the apparent “rape” associations are too much for me.

[name]WILLOW[/name]: I’ve always loved willow trees and it has a special meaning connected with my own name, the character [name]Willow[/name] Rosenberg is my favorite of any book/movie/tv character but I worry that 1) will this name age past the teenaged years? Can you picture an adult [name]Willow[/name]? Obviously Grandmother [name]Willow[/name] works though… 2) is [name]Willow[/name] the new [name]Violet[/name]? Ranking in the low 200s, is this just the alternative to [name]Violet[/name] now?

Other vague thoughts of mine:

  • [name]Arthur[/name] is my favorite boys’ name and if I end up with a son, he will be named so. [name]Arthur[/name] and [name]Violet[/name]? [name]Arthur[/name] and [name]Willow[/name]? [name]Arthur[/name], [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Willow[/name]? (I still think [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Willow[/name] would make great sisters!)
  • middle names for both? I like [name]Demetra[/name] [name]Willow[/name] ([name]Demetra[/name]'s my other absolute favorite name, the only one that trumps both [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Willow[/name]) but I can’t ever come up with ideal middle names for either [name]Violet[/name] or [name]Willow[/name].

So WDYT Berries? [name]Do[/name] you also love [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Willow[/name]/have two of your own? Can you think of alternative names that you also like? Middle names? Have you met a [name]Willow[/name] (the less-used of the two?).

I adore [name]Willow[/name] and would love to use it one day. I think it would age just as well as any other nature name.

I’m an odd one out here, but I’ve never loved [name]Violet[/name].

I’ve actually never been big on [name]Violet[/name] either. I think it’s waaaay too early to worry about where on the list they’ll be in 10-15 years. They’re position on the charts may fluctuate, as well as your favorites. I say keep them on your list. I actually knew two Willows growing up (I’m 27) who were about my age. I think it’s been on the radars a relatively long time. I really like it.

I think [name]Arthur[/name] could work with either of them.

What about [name]Violetta[/name]? [name]Violet[/name] might be pretty popular in the years to come, but I don’t think you have to worry too much about [name]Willow[/name]. If I’m wrong, how about [name]Willa[/name]?

Middle names for [name]Violet[/name]/[name]Violetta[/name]:
[name]Ruby[/name]
[name]Elizabeth[/name]
[name]Athena[/name]
[name]Beline[/name]
[name]Therese[/name]

Middle names for [name]Willow[/name]/[name]Willa[/name]/

[name]Freya[/name]
[name]Sarita[/name]
[name]Lark[/name]
[name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Bernice[/name]
[name]Fiona[/name]
[name]Zoe[/name]
[name]Vida[/name]

I think [name]Arthur[/name] would work very well, and they would make lovely sisters. Lastly, I think [name]Willow[/name] would age well.

I think [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Willow[/name] are very very pretty however I think I have become kind of desensitized to both names. They are starting to feel kind of ordinary. I think it is because they are two really popular names that I see mentioned here on nameberry, so to me they have lost their feeling of freshness. I know [name]IRL[/name] these names are far from ordinary.

[name]Love[/name] nature names but never cared for [name]Willow[/name] or [name]Violet[/name]. They would make a sweet sibset however

[name]Violetta[/name] or [name]Valetta[/name] are much prettier. I also like [name]Willetta[/name], which combines the two

[name]Willow[/name] [name]Violetta[/name] sounds lovely

[name]Demetra[/name] is nice but I prefer [name]Demetria[/name] [name]Willow[/name]. And did you realize that if you have an [name]Arthur[/name], your kids will be [name]Arthur[/name] & D.W.?

face palm

Suddenly, I’m less keen on [name]Demetra[/name] [name]Willow[/name]…but as another poster pointed out, since I’m thinking in the far-off future, this thread is somewhat inconsequential. But I don’t care for any of the name suggestions thrown at me so far (sorry, but nms); I guess I’m just stuck with my love for these names, no matter how popular they’ve suddenly become!
