Violet Pronunciation

We are thinking about naming our second daughter [name_f]Violet[/name_f], but I now realize that everyone seems to say it differently…

[name_f]Vi[/name_f]-lit
[name_f]Via[/name_f]-lit
Vio-lit…

[name_m]How[/name_m] do YOU pronounce it? And where are you from?
[name_m]Just[/name_m] trying to see what is most common.

Thanks in advance:blush::blush:

VY-lit
U.S.

I literally say it Vio-let, though it comes out sounding like vial-et a little bit, USA

I almost pronounce it [name_f]Via[/name_f]-let, but the uh sound is stunted so it’s like the name is 2 1/2 syllables

[name_f]Vi[/name_f]-Lut is how I say it. I’m from South [name_m]Wales[/name_m].

VY-uh-lut

I’m from central [name_f]England[/name_f].

VY-uh-lut, I’m from [name_f]Scotland[/name_f]

Vie-let. No stress on either syllable. And I’m from the Southern US.

VY-let. Midwest U.S.

I adore this name so much. I never really paid attention to how I pronounce it. It’s kind of different each time. If I’m saying it quickly, it comes out [name_f]Vi[/name_f]-lit. But when I slow down, it’s [name_f]Vi[/name_f]-uh-lit. I think the “uh” just gets a bit lost when saying the name quicker, but it’s still there!

I’m from the US.

Vy- Let is how I say it and I’m from [name_u]North[/name_u] [name_f]East[/name_f] USA.

Somewhere between vy-let and vy-uh-let.

Somewhere between [name_f]Vi[/name_f] lut and [name_f]Vi[/name_f] lit I’m from the southern US.

[name_f]Vi[/name_f] - let. I’m from the UK!

I love this name! You should consider it no matter how you pronounce it!

I’m from the UK and I say it ‘vi-lut’.

I’m from [name_u]California[/name_u] and I say vi-lit. [name_f]Vi[/name_f] as in long I sound.

I pronounce it both vy-uh-lit and vy-lit, depending on if I am being lazy or not. I’m from south-eastern [name_f]England[/name_f].

I have a pet named [name_f]Violet[/name_f], I usually pronounce it [name_f]Vi[/name_f]-let, but sometimes I say [name_f]Vi[/name_f]-lit.

[name_f]Vi[/name_f]-let

Is how I say it

I say vy-uh-let and I’m from [name_f]Canada[/name_f]. I have a relative with a daughter [name_f]Violet[/name_f] who lives in the American Midwest, and she pronounces it vy-let, but she doesn’t seem to mind that a lot of our family pronounce it vy-uh-let and has never corrected anyone. In my experience a name with more than one quite similar pronunciation will be pronounced in different ways but the wearer tends to answer to all of them and not mind if other people say it slightly different than they do themselves.

EDIT: I mean vy-uh-lit and vy-lit! I would read vy-uh-lit and vy-uh-let the same way. Same for vy-lit and vy-let.
