Vito??

My husband really likes the name [name]Vito[/name]. Honestly, I [name]Love[/name] the name- short and powerful. But am hesitant because of the Italian stereotype. This is our third child- we have an [name]Antonio[/name] [name]Michael[/name] and a [name]Lucia[/name] [name]Grace[/name]. And a 3 syllable italian last name. My husband is Italian (first generation) I am not.

What are your opinions?? And what would be your suggestions for a middle name? I would like to name him [name]Vito[/name] [name]Bernardo[/name] (after my husband) but that may be over the top. An american middle name may soften it, but we can’t think of any.

Please help!!

Why not use a longer name- [name]Vittorio[/name] is great- with [name]Vito[/name] as a nickname? [name]Vito[/name] is very middle-aged to me, but [name]Vittorio[/name] sounds fresh.

I like the names that you have chosen for your first two children BUT I think that [name]Vito[/name] is an unlikeable name. I find no charm in it at all.

There are other Italian names that go well in a non Italian community but [name]Vito[/name] is not one of them

Ones that I like are:

[name]Milo[/name]
[name]Marco[/name]
[name]Roman[/name]
[name]Paulo[/name]
[name]Franco[/name]
[name]Romeo[/name]

regards,

rollo

I like the name [name]Vito[/name], but it does sound incomplete to me. I like the suggested [name]Vittorio[/name] nn [name]Vito[/name]! I think [name]Antonio[/name], [name]Lucia[/name] and [name]Vittorio[/name] are fabulous together! And you could still call him [name]Vito[/name].

As for middle names, you could always take the meaning of [name]Bernard[/name]/[name]Bernardo[/name] (“strong, brave as a bear”) and find American names that hold the same (or very similar) meaning.

I’m probably biased as an Italian American, but I love both ideas - [name]Vito[/name] [name]Bernardo[/name] and [name]Vittorio[/name] “[name]Vito[/name]” [name]Bernardo[/name]. Maybe [name]Vittorio[/name] a little more. I think of [name]Vittorio[/name] Emmanuele (actually, the name of several Italian kings). [name]Vittorio[/name] seems very regal to me.

I was a little bit on the fence about [name]Vito[/name] until I saw the suggestion of [name]Vittorio[/name] [name]Bernardo[/name]. I love it! What a great full name for the nickname [name]Vito[/name] and I think both names work very well together.

Thank you all for your suggestions! I am new to this website and wish I had found it before!
I love [name]Vittorio[/name] with a nn [name]Vito[/name]! Still not sure about the mn. However, I am having contractions and don’t think I have that much time!

Here are some ideas:

[name]Vittorio[/name] [name]John[/name] (my brothers name)
[name]Vittorio[/name] [name]Bernardo[/name] (my husband’s name)
[name]Vittorio[/name] [name]Bernard[/name]

mn with no real significance but I think go well:
[name]Vittorio[/name] [name]Joseph[/name]
[name]Vittorio[/name] [name]Alexander[/name]
[name]Vittorio[/name] Chritopher

[name]Both[/name] my other children have names with family ties, so I am hesitant to name this child just based on names we like without significance.

or maybe:
[name]Bernardo[/name] [name]John[/name]

Also, we don’t know if its a boy or girl!!! I am going to post another for my girls names under “[name]Sarafina[/name] or [name]Fiona[/name]” if you care to help us out! Thanks again!

I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Vittorio[/name] [name]John[/name]! I think that sounds especially nice with a 3 syllable last name. [name]Vittorio[/name] [name]Bernardo[/name] is also very nice, but I just love the looks and sounds of [name]Vittorio[/name] [name]John[/name]. The name [name]John[/name] also softens [name]Vittorio[/name] in a very nice way.

Since you already have [name]Antonio[/name] [name]Michael[/name] and a [name]Lucia[/name] [name]Grace[/name], I think [name]Vittorio[/name] [name]John[/name] would be the best pairing, That way, all three children would have a English middle name of a relative! Best wishes!

[name]Vittorio[/name] [name]Joseph[/name] matches [name]Michael[/name] and [name]Grace[/name] very well (thinking Biblically).
